5.0 out of 5 stars Heart of Glass, Dec 15 2001

A beautiful and sometimes brutal recording. It lulls you into complacency and then it attacks you with blasts of aggression. His follow up, Songs From Liquid Days, is another, wonderous work that is not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still scarey, Dec 14 2001
This work blew my mind when I was in junior high school and it still does 25 years later. The musicianship is top notch and the songwriting is brilliant. Pink Floyd surpased this work in all it's paranoia, but it took them quite some time. 20th Century Schizoid Man still fascinates and repulses. The saxophone on this cut is quite agressive. Greg Lake's vocals are so crystaline and Robert Fripp pulls out your spine with his Les Paul's fret work..

3.0 out of 5 stars 1 Monument, 1 Souvenir and the rest is filler., Dec 14 2001
He Was Really Saying Something is a great song. It is Motown at it's happiest. The Bananrama version, which was my first introduction to this song, is so lame compared to the original. The other good cut is Needle In A Haystack. A great Martha and the Vandelas style romp. The rest of this collection is second shelf. I do love Motown.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is as good as it got in the 90's, Dec 13 2001

A real band with good songs, a sense of humour and an appreciation for beauty. Gee whiz, it seems so long ago.

Too many great moments on this classic work to be spoiled by the few moments of kitsch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Jammy, Dec 13 2001
This review is from: Inspiration Information (Audio CD)
Strawberry Letter 23 was completed by the Brothers Johnson on their marvelous hit version. Shuggis Otis' original sounds a bit like a demo. Out of all the cuts on this CD, the one song that I think is brilliant and stands out over the rest is, Aht Uh Mi Hed. It sounds like a lost soul classic. If you like jam sessions, this may be the CD for you. But if you want polished songs this much heralded recording may just be too jammy and free form.

I tried listening to this the other day and it was hard going. There are some nice moments, but there is a lot of nothing special stuff too. The remake of A Girl Called Sandoz is a highlight. Stick to Siamese Dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars Schubert + Lupu = Pleasure, Dec 13 2001
The first thing that strikes the ear, after the almost mystical playing, is the sound quality. This has to be the most realistic sounding piano recording ever. It is other worldly. As a composer, Schubert was at his most expressive in these profoundly personal pieces. A must have recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Last Rose of Summer makes me weep, Dec 12 2001
This review is from: Sin After Sin (Audio CD)
This CD is great, Last Rose of Summer and the remake of Diamonds and Rust are achingly beautiful and heartfelt. The rest of the CD rocks! The sound quality is a little dry and compressed, but it somehow it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happens when you loose your sense of responsibilty?, Dec 7 2001
This movie tries to answer this important question. A team of young, inexperienced and morally dubious scientists are working together in complete freedom on an evil project. A comment on vanity and the emptiness that surrounds it. All the leads are children walking around in adults bodies and are only interested in their own infantile needs. The movie has no heroes and is very down beat, but it has energy and intelligence on it's side. A contemporary film noir done in bright colors. It all very Freudian, a battle of the ego and the id.
