Oh my god, how great thou are, Oct 20 2001
Grace tackles a lot of territory here and yes she does sing her heart out. Inside Story is such a wonderful song about a family and how they can inspire you. The whole album plays out like an autobiographical journey. She lives in LA and deals with a bunch of sharks but still walks barefoot in Beverly Hills. Through it all she praises God for his inspiration. A very honest and upbeat recording.

I am always touched by this album, dear, Oct 16 2001
It is not the thematic and genre crossing masterpiece of Autoamerican, but the variety of song styles keeps this work from ever getting boring. The sincere/ironic singing style that Debbie Harry mastered here came into full bloom on Heart of Glass. Was she ever serious or not, does she really care? Love at the Pier is so fab because Debbie role plays as a gay male cruising the New York piers. Now that is true irony and on the great song, I'm Always Touched by Your Presence Dear, the band develops their fushion of the supernatural and scientific that will be a theme that runs throughout their entire career. Think of the "strange subtle entity" from Shayla on Eat To The Beat. Blondie is New York music at it's best, street smart, intelligent and stylish. It's re-tooled retro, full of wonder and beauty, just like the fantastic Debbie Harry.

Beautiful Muzak, Oct 12 2001
It is all so gorgeous and Philip Glass was the executive producer. So why just 3 stars? Because this kind of stuff can make your mind turn to mush. It lacks creativity, but so do mashed potatoes. Listen and be comforted, just don't get too fat.

Do you know how to Pony, like boney Maroney?, Oct 10 2001
Ms. Smith is an original. She fills the shoes left behind by Jim Morrison nicely. This was not a commercial product and how it ever got released by a major label seems miraculous by today's standards. Pure and powerful in all of it's narcissistic glory! "Horses, horses, coming in, in all directions".

Aural science fiction, Oct 10 2001
An intelligent and subtle use of repetition. Originally released in 1975, but sounding even more relevant today. The results of this collaboration soothe without numbing. As I listen, I hear crystals forming.

One of their best., Oct 3 2001
The production of this album has been criticized for being too pop, but I think it makes the Heads music more fun and less pretentious. It is a very happy album and a very naive one at that. It is a great CD to take on a weekend drive.

It's not a beautiful life, Oct 2 2001
Parts of this book are brilliant. Dicken's description of Louisa's breakdown is perfect and chilling. But some of the first person, lisping, cockney dialogue made it rather hard to read. The themes of inequality and hypocrisy soar high, but so does the sappiness.

You will never look at the green one the same way., Aug 19 2001
A great revision of The Wizard of Oz that opens one's eyes to the good inside what is sometimes first seen as evil. The book's genius is in taking a much hated character, that most everyone associates with their childhood, and turning her into a hero and therefore changing the reader's reality. Very clever and very post modern. I found the author's second book, Confession's of an Ugly Stepsister even better, showing an amazing knowledge of 17th century life in Holland.

For a good cry......, Aug 16 2001
read one of the short pieces in this anthology. They are also incredibly uplifting too. A brilliant bedside companion for any dog lover.
