Ninth Key
Ninth Key
by Jenny Carroll
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
30 used & new from CDN$ 0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars better than the first, May 28 2003
This review is from: Ninth Key (Mass Market Paperback)
In "Ninth Key" - the second of the Mediator books - Suze Simon is back, and funnier than ever. She wakes up one night to a woman screaming bloody murder, and the woman says "Tell Red he didn't kill me." So, Suze is looking all over for Red, and finds one...Red Beaumont, businessman. When she goes to tell him the message, she finds him totally strange - he keeps looking at her neck, doesn't like sunlight, and has no red hair...so why is he called Red?

When Suze tells Father Dom all about this, he comes to the stratling conclusion that Red Beaumont is a vampire. Suze doesn't believe in vampires, but is a little afraid of Red. She goes back there, and ultimately gets into much deeper trouble than she could ever have imagined.

Will Suze get into more trouble than she can handle with the possible vampire?

This book's really good, I'd say better than the first...from the first line (which I believe is "Nobody told me about the poison oak") to the last, this book is absolutely hilarious. You won't be able to put it down, I highly reccommend this.

Overall grade: A+

Mates, Dates, and Inflatable Bras
Mates, Dates, and Inflatable Bras
by Cathy Hopkins
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
45 used & new from CDN$ 0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, fun, and easy to read, May 26 2003
"Mates, Dates, and Inflatible Bras" is the first book in the series that follows three friends Izzie, Nesta, and Lucy. This book mainly focuses on Lucy. She's pretty insecure, especially since her best friend in the entire world (Izzie) seems to have a new best friend (Nesta), she has no idea what she wants to do in her future, and she's really short (4 foot eight, I think) and everyone calls her a midget. One day, when Lucy's eccentric health-food store owner dad is driving her to Izzie's house, Lucy spots HIM. Lucy is stricken by this "mystery guy" and soon her and Izzie are on lookout for him, they even hang out by his school.

Lucy finds out who the "mystery guy" is - and she can't believe it! She's totally shocked...and embarassed too.

At the end of the book, Lucy discovers what she wants to do in her future (though it's pretty obvious), talks to the mystery guy, and also comes to terms with Izzie's new friendship with Nesta.

Mates, Dates, and Inflatible Bras is a really good book, and very easy to read. I finished it really quickly, but I plan on getting the next two books in the series. If you liked Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, you'll love these books too! I highly reccommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very, very good CD!, May 22 2003
This review is from: Whole Shebang (Audio CD)
My sister's a huge country fan, and she was listening to this CD over the summer, and I love it! It's the first country album I've ever listened to straight through!

1.)Little Goodbyes - This one's so fun! A great first song, because it's catchy and you can't wait to see what else is on the CD! 5/5
2.)I WIll...But - I like this one a lot too! It's another bubbly, catchy song, I especially like the guitar playing in it! 5/5
3.)This Woman Needs - The first slower song on the album. I like it a lot, because it's sadder than any other SHeDAisy song I've ever heard. 5/5
4.)Before Me and You - First impressions say this song will be cheesy, with the first line and all. But it's not! It's another great one! 5/5
5.)Lucky For You (Tonight I'm Just Me) - I really like this one, 'cause you get great mental images, and the vocals are really fun! 5/5
6.)Still Holding Out For You - Once again, I rate this one 5/5 - I love the piano in the beginning and the vocals are beautiful! 5/5

7.)Punishment - I dont care for this one as much as the rest, the beginning sounds kind of churchy so you expect a slow song, but it's really upbeat. 4/5
8.)'cause I Like it That Way - As the rest of the songs, I love this one! I like the "Hey Jack, take back, all those lines" in the beginning. 5/5
9.)Without You Love - Another pretty, slower song. 5/5
10.)Night to Remember - Probably the best faster song on the CD. It's sooo fun! 5/5
11.)Dancing With Angels - The other song I don't like. It's not bad, just not my style. 4/5

*There are only two songs on here that I dont think are amazing, and that's really good! I love this CD and highly reccommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great, May 21 2003
This review is from: Christina Aguilera (Audio CD)
I really liked Christina's 4 singles from this CD, but I was pretty disappointed at the overall CD.

1.)Genie in a Bottle ~ Catchy, fun, I like it a lot. Has a very good tempo. Grade: A
2.)What a Girl Wants ~ Another bubbly, fun pop song. My favorite on the CD. Grade: A+
3.)I Turn to You ~ The first slow song, it's nice and very pretty. I like this a lot too. Grade: A+
4.)So Emotional ~ I like the beat this one has, it's got a clubby feel to it. Grade: A
5.)Come On Over ~ Another great song! I like this more than the radio edit. Grade: A
6.)Reflection ~ Also on the Mulan soundtrack. This song's kinda depressing, though the vocals are really good. Grade: B+
7.)Love for All Seasons ~ This one is my least favorite on the CD. The tempo and the beat are weird, and I don't like her voice. Grade: D
8.)Somebody's Somebody ~ This reminds me of Love for ALl Seasons, so I don't like it much either. Though I do like the way her voice sounds. Grade: B-
9.)When You Put Your Hands On Me ~ I dunno, this one's cool, it seems kinda clubby to me (again). Grade: A-
10.)Blessed ~ Also from Miracle in Lane Two (Disney movie) and I think it fits perfectly. This song's really pretty. Grade: A
11.)Love Will Find a Way ~ I don't have anything to say but this song really bugs me. Grade: C
12.)Obvious ~ Another great one! I like the piano part in the beginning. Grade: A

This is a good CD, but the tracks that I don't like actually make me cringe, and that doesn't happen too often.

Shadowland
Shadowland
by Jenny Carroll
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
33 used & new from CDN$ 0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars first - but not last, May 21 2003
This review is from: Shadowland (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first book by "Jenny Carroll." I've read all the Princess Diaries book, but I didn't know that Jenny Carroll was Meg Cabot until after I finished the book.

IN "Shadowland" (the first of the Mediator books), Suze Simon moves to sunny, bubbly Californa with her mom. She's moving into an old, historic house that her stepdad and three stepbrothers (Doc, Dopey, and Sleepy) live in. When Suze finds out it's an *old* mansion, she freaks out. You see, Suze has powers. She can talk to ghosts, in fact, she has to help them go to the afterlife. Suze is right ~ there's a Spanish cowboy from the 1800's (named Jesse) living in her room. At first, shes kind of alarmed, but soon she becomes friends with Jesse ~ he watches out for her, and seems to have an attraction to her.

At Suze's new school, there is also a ghost. Heather, the pretty, popular girl who committ suicide the week before Suze arrived. Heather is jealous and seeking revenge on her ex-boyfriend Bryce, and will stop at nothing to kill him.

Suze keeps trying to prevent Heather's attempts to murder Bryce, but in the end - will she succeed?

This was a great book, even better than the Princess Diaries. It's a book that you won't want to put down, and won't be upset at the end. Everything comes together. Overall grade: A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, May 20 2003
This review is from: Jump5 (Audio CD)
I really like Jump5, and just bought this CD yesterday...I've already listened to it four times. :-)

1.)Spinnin' Around - I really like this one. This was the first Jump5 song I ever heard, and I really really like it. The video is really cool, and I like the use of the words "vertigo" and "equilibrium." 5/5
2.)Virtual Reality - "Virtual Reality" is a really cool song too! The beginning is kind of strange, but it's a really nifty song. 5/5
3.)Change a Heart, Change the World - I have mixed feelings on this song. It's a good song and all, but it isn't the best song on this CD, and it is one you can skip. 3/5
4.)The Meaning of Life - Now this is one I like. I really like the vocals in this...I think it's cool, and flaky as it may sound, the beginning sounds kind of mysterious. 5/5
5.)All I Want - The beginning's weird on this song too, but it's really good. A great dance song! 5/5
6.)Wish That I Could Read Your Mind - This one has that "mysterious" air to it too! I love this one!!! 5/5
7.)Tell Me Why - "Tell Me Why" is an okay song. It's better than "Change a Heart, Change the World" but it isn't one of the best on the CD. 3.5/5
8.)I Belong to You - I love this one. Once again, it's the vocals that stand out most! It also has a very good tempo (mid-tempo) The chorus is beautiful! 5/5
9.)Love Ya Too Much - All I can say is, I love this one too. The first line is the most powerful...and it's typical for almost every teen. 5/5
10.)When I Say Your Name - This is another fast, bouncy, dancey song. It reminds me of Ace of Base, but I like them, so I like this song a lot. 4.5/5
11.)Start Jumpin' - This one's OK, the beginning sounds a lot like an Aaron Carter song though, which I don't like. 4/5
12.)God Bless the U.S.A. - Another favorite. If you like the version by Lee Greenwood, you'll love this one too! It was released after September 11th, so it has a really signifigant meaning. 6/5

There are only 3 or 4 songs on this 12 song CD that aren't that great. That's a really good accomplish for a new band, and I can't wait to get the next Jump5 CD!

The Princess Diaries

5.0 out of 5 stars A very, very good CD!, May 20 2003
This review is from: The Princess Diaries (Audio CD)
I loved the movie "The Princess Diaries" and I think the great music helped that a lot! There are some really great songs on here!

Highlights of the CD are:
"Supergirl" - Krystal Harris *I believe she's playing the piano, and that makes the song even better...and she's got a very good voice.
"Miss You More" - BBMak *Everyone likes the song "Back Here" by them, and this is just as good, if not better. It's really slow and pretty.
"Crush" - 3G's *The absolute best on the CD! It's very pretty and very summery...I love it!
"Miracles Happen" - Myra *This song is actually really good...I believe it has a Christian music theme, and its very good. Myra has a great voice.
"Stupid Cupid" - Mandy Moore *A lot of people don't like this one, but I think it's cute. Also, it's very summery.

The only 2 songs on the CD I really don't like are "Little Bitty Pretty One" (Aaron Carter) and "What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful)" (Backstreet Boys) they're not bad, but too boy band-ish

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff, May 20 2003
I loved the movie "Now and Then" and the music in it! My friends and I sing along with the soundtrack at the top of our lungs all the time, each song it great!

Best songs on the CD:

*Sugar, Sugar ~ It's so fun and happy. Also, I seem to be the only one, but I think it's kind of romantic.
*Knock 3 Times ~ My very favorite!!!!! I sing this one all the time! ALmost everyone knows this song, because its great, and I don't know anyone who doesnt like it!
*Hitchin' a Ride ~ This one's so catchy. Thankfully, it isn;t about love. There are too many songs about love. I think this song's really fun, and you can't help but tap your feet to it.
*I'm Gonna Make You Love Me ~ If youve heard the version by Play and Chris from Dream Street, you know that this one is *much* better! This one has better lyrics, but it's understandable why they had been changed for a younger audience.

The rest of the songs are great too, but these are my absolute favorites on the CD. If you like Oldies or the movie Now and Then I highly reccommend the CD!

I first saw "Mirror Mirror" on Disney, and really like M2M now. Shades of Purple is *really* good!

1.)Don't Say You Love Me - about not being in love, which is nice for a change. Grade: A
2.)The Day You Went Away - I like this one most on the CD...it's kind of slow and kind of fast...mid tempo I guess you'd call it. Grade: A+
3.)Girl in Your Dreams - This one's cool, the beginning's weird, but it's a really nice ballad! Grade: A
4.)Mirror, Mirror - This one's really neat. It's more about disliking yourself for making a mistake, which is nice for a change too. Grade: A+
5.)Pretty Boy - This is right up there with "The Day You Went Away." I like the beginning, because you get a really good image of what they mean. Grade: A+
6.)Give a Little Love - The first song on the CD that's edgier than the rest. I like it, and they seem really mad in this song. Grade: A
7.)Everything You Do - I don't like this one, it's weird. THe beginning's really flaky. Grade: B
8.)Don't Mess With My Love - This one's cool. It's about a friend going behind your back and stealing your boyfriend. I like the bridge, it's very different from the rest of the song. Grade: A
9.)Dear Diary - I don't like this one. The backup singers sound kind of freaky and it bothers me. But the lyrics are cool. Grade: B+
10.)Do You Know What You Want? - I hate this one. I think this is the worst on the CD. Grade: D
11.)Smiling Face - Another favorite, it's very fun to listen to, it sounds kind of like "Don't EVen Know Your Name" by A*Teens. Grade: A
12.)Our SOng - I think this might be a remake, but I'm not sure. I really like it though. I love the part that says "My friends say I'm too good, too good for you. MAYBE THAT IS TRUE WELL I DON'T CARE" Grade: A+
13.)Why - This one's soooo pretty. I think everyone can relate to it, which is nice. Grade: A+

*All in all, this CD is great. If you don't like mainstream pop, rap, or R&B which are really popular now, I would reccommend this.

This review is from: V1 Disneymania (Audio CD)
I'm a huge Disney fan and I also love A*Teens and Jump5, so I was happy when this came out!

1.)Someday My Prince Will Come (Anastacia) - I like the song, but I don't like the way she sounds. She sounds pained when she sings, so she kinda ruins it. 6/10
2.)Under the Sea (A*TEENS) - I love A*Teens, and this song is great, very fun and bouncy. I don't care for the bridge much, but it is a great song, very typical A*Teens music. 10/10
3.)You'll Be in My Heart (Usher) - This one's cool too! I like it a lot, it's so sweet. 10/10
4.)When You Wish Upon a Star (*NSYNC) - I don't like this at all. I don't dislike *NSYNC, but this is just bad. 1/10
5.)Colors of the Wind (Ashanti) - Another favorite. She sings really good, and it's very pretty. 10/10
6.)I Wanna be Like You (Smash Mouth) - This one's ok, I usually skip over it, it's kinda typical Smash Mouth music, so if you don't like them, avoid this song. 8/10
7.)Part of Your World (Jessica Simpson) - I'm with everyone, this one isn't very good. It's just annoying. 5/10
8.)I Just Can't Wait to Be King (Aaron Carter) - This one's cool, I guess. It's pretty good, I like it. 9/10
9.)Can You Feel the Love Tonight (S Club) - I like this, it's a nice ballad. 8/10
10.)Hakuna Matatta (Baha Men) - No, I don't like this one. It's annoying and gets stuck in your head. 4/10
11.)The Tiki Room (Hilary Duff) - Don't really like this one. The songs annoying enough, and I really don't like Hilary Duff. 6/10
12.)Beauty and the Beast (Jump5) - I love this one. If you have the DVD (Beauty and the Beast) you can see the video which is really neat too! 10/10
13.)Kiss the Girl (No Secrets) - I'm no fan of the group, but i really like this one. Its a really girly fun song. 9.5/10
14.)Reflection (Christina Aguleria) - I like the slow songs, and this one's no exception. It's great. 10/10
15.)Circle of Life - I like this one too! it's really pretty. 10/10

The good songs on this CD really overpower the bad ones, and in my opinion A*Teens, Jump5, No Secrets, and Ashanti really stand out.
