This book took me into 'known territory'. This was my childhood era. It, like 'Austerity Britain', gave me an understanding of why we were the way we were at that time and place in history. The difference in this book is that I can remember so many of the places, social and political events and reactions of the adults around me. A fascinating read and I hope there is another sequel!
This book took me back in time! It opened up my own 'Pandora's Box' and gave me the understanding of why I think the way I do about many issues. I was born in 1946 so assimilated the ideas, views and feelings of this time period without realizing how or why. Now I understand where many of my parent's viewpoints came from! It had the added interest of including parts of a dear, school friend's mother's diary!
The book contained lots of great games, crafts and ideas for children to do. It had good reference to the Christian content of Christmas yet gave reference to other celebrations and faith's beliefs at this part of the year. I am looking forward to using this book with my grandchildren when they are a year or so older.
