And Speaking of Scorpions... The Autobiography of Herman "Ze German" Rarebell
And Speaking of Scorpions... The Autobiography of Herman "Ze German" Rarebell
Price: CDN$ 9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, Best book for 80s headbangers, Jan. 16 2014
Hermann Rarebell's bio is like the lyrics he wrote for Scorpions music. Simple and entertaining tongue-in-cheek stuff. He shares his views of 80s music, his life as a Scorpion and gives a fresh look at the whole insanity that went on during the Metal years. He does not spend time on events chronoligy. He prefer to write about what those events meant to him and how he lived them. While staying polite, he bars no holds when he talks about Ted Nugent fading star in the early 80s or on how opening acts are treated by the headlining band (the console handling section is funny). He will not fall into the trap of telling you hiw many women he had or how much booze flowed during tours. This has been done before (Notley Crue and Aerosmith bios). His thoughts on how the Scorpions blossomed from obscure band to a mega-platinum outdit is do to the point, it is refreshing. A SUPER book to read suring vacation time....

Too bad, he talks little about their Blackout tour with Rainbow. It was the first ever live concert I attended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Very Very Informative..... but a slow read., Jan. 14 2014
In terms of information, this is top of the line.... or the Pops. The career of this legend unfolds 5 times over as you progress through the book. Very Chronological and detailled, it will supply data to your musical brain for years. The man played in back up bands for rock legends before he became one. Some one may say that the Deep purple Mark II portion goes by too fast. but it is a Blackmore bio and not a DP one. Self-assurd in the description of his own life, mothing is overlooked. I felt that the Pre-Purple portion drags for too long, but try to feel the musical progression of the master and it will make it go by faster. VEry well written with some dark overtones... Blackmore is what he is.

The incredible REcord listing closes the book and is a statement in itself.

A must for heavy metal grown-ups...

Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath
Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath
Price: CDN$ 9.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative, but not a great read, Jan. 13 2014
I had high expectations for this one. I was looking for a more cerebral Bio than the one from Motley Crue or Iron Maiden.

Unfortunatly, this book is very chronological with a lot of "then after that" and not much insight or substance. Fans of the band or 80s headbangers probably sre aware of 60+ % of the stuff written onthose pages. It will bring back memories (his description of the YES/Black Sabbath tour is priceless), but not much more. THe writing style is dated. I could have lived without the countless swear words punctuating the book. It reads too much like an 80 S magazine like Circus or Hit Parader. THe sections about how they got their gold crosses or how he met Rick Wakeman cannot save the book.

Good, but not entertaining.

The Last Great Heavyweights. From Ali and Frazier to Lewis and Tyson
The Last Great Heavyweights. From Ali and Frazier to Lewis and Tyson
Price: CDN$ 9.80

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and easy to read., Jan. 4 2014
For once, a book about heavyweight boxers that is not focusing and glorifying the Pre-50s heroes. Nothing like "they use to be better in the Joe Louis era" THis one starts with Ali-Frazier-Foreman massive bouts. The writers brings all the way back to recent years. high on story-telling and low on stats, it has this boxing fan appraoch to it. Championship fight with forgotten fighters likes Akiwande, Briggs, Golota and others are alos part of this glam-fest which is Heavyweight title fighting. His views on Lennox Lewis are priceless. It is a must read !!!!!! it feels like a cold light beer on a hot summer day......

The writing lacks a bit of finesse, but I was not expecting Shakespeare. THe auithor literally spills his guts on the kindle file. He loves that sport and it shows.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit different, but still great, Dec 13 2013
This one steers away from her "All you can walk" DVDs. Of the two workouts offered to you, the BURN one is a usual Leslie Sansone walking thing, but the FIRM one is half walk and half resistance training. You need to own free weights to do the whole set. It hits the whole body...

As always, Leslie's workout are flying by and you will not get bored. it will be over before you know it. Moves are very simple to learn (as oppose to some other fitness DVD). This is low impact stuff that delivers slowly, but delivers.

Leslie sports her usual Fit-Woman-Next-door look. She is going through the exercises with a group a students of all ages and shapes. Two modes are offered, With comments or Music only (to avoid her annoying laugh).

I never thought that Roger Corman and peplum would mix too well. Low-budget epic are few and far between. The result is surprisingly good. A fine gladiator movie to watch. it is not a Hercules or Maciste film. No super-powers in this one. As usual with the director, the story-telling is the strong part. Sets are fair when considering the usual no cash approach by the fame director. ACting is good when lines are delivered by the main cast... It is simply a pleasnt epic film to watch with heroes and villains. A 90 minutss peplum with it's share of muscular men and lovely damsels. A lot more historical than mythological.... It is worth a lot more than the $6.00 pirice tag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense low-impact, Simple and effective., Nov. 27 2013

Expressions like Intense low-impact and Power walking did not make any sense until now.

This DVD is pure delight for low Impact training lovers. IT is offering 5 x 1 mile work out (four of them using a 14 nibutes a mile pac and a faster at a 12 minutes a mile pace) plus a warmup and a cool down track. All can be done in one fun workout or seperatly in any order.

The trainer uses a little less than 10 basic easy to follow moves (low kicks, standing leg curl, side steps....) to get your heart rate in upper gear. It is fantastic for people with little dancing abilities or aerobics class experience. IT is that simple to use..... Trainer has this " Woman next door" look that makes you want to be like her. I would also recommend it to fitness experts that wants something to do on light training day. Music is very so-so, but it is only there to get you to keep the beat. The best part about this video is that your 14 minute mile will be done before you know it and you will go for another one and another.... I would recommend using light hand-weights to increase the challenge.

Recommended !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, the complete serie... fabulously hilarious....delirant, Nov. 19 2013
First things first....I will loosely translate the title for ease of lecture.

Les gendarmes a St-Tropez... French cops in St-Tropez
Les gendarmes a New York... French cops in New York
Les gendarme se marie ... French cop got married.
Les gendarmes en cavale... French cops on the loose
Les gendarmes er kes Extra-terrestres... French cops and E.T.
Les gendarmes et Les gendarmettes ... French cops an the Lady cops.

I love complete series/seasons. One purchase and you get everything. From the 1st bars of "Do Yoo Do Yoo St-Ttopez" to the final Sexist comment (The Lady Cops), this box set covers the whole array of De Funes comical acrobatics. HE is the most dramatically funny person in French filmmaking history. On countless occasion, you will ask yourself : " How will he get out of this one ?" A lot of the jokes became a lot funnier now that I am turning 50. The intellectual side of these comedies are a lot more appealing than when I was 14 or 15. Mind you there are still a lot of Summer comedy feel to the set. St-tropez is what it is.... Sunshine and rich girls

He makes the most out of the same sets. He re-uses and re-invent funny situations about the only road to St-Tropez, about the crazy car driving nun (she shows up when you least expect it), about the small police office or the Nudist beach (among others). The only time De Funes fails to amuse is when they re-use the Man-dressed-as-Woman situation too many times. The "In New York" is the only weak one (except for the "West Side Story " musical number). The "Got Married" one is non-stop laughters. The four others are to enjoy like the beaches of St-Tropez. You will forget about the Lady Cops that are more French Supermodels than actresses or the too many Short man jokes. This package is just that good.

This package was never meant to be released in English. It is a six movies boxset with no adders. Can De Funes really be dubbed ? Even for $55, it was worth all the money I paid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense and innovative, but not for beginners, Oct. 16 2013
The trainer truly makes up the most out of the 10 minutes. THe full time is spent sweating. She uses complex multi-muscle moves to stimulate as many lower body muscles possible in each movement. It is very intense, No breaks, no pauses... THis is not the DVD to buy if you are starting a Makeover. You need to be in pretty good shape to tackle this one. you get 5 routine + an extra ABS blast. it is far tougher than their "dance" releases. Results are guaranteed. Her standing knee-lift with abs twist is a killer. She also has an Extra Intense 10 minutes Rear end workout that get even the Very fit host out of breathe.

The DVD interface is bit different than in other 10 minutes solution DVD, but it is better, once you get the hang of it. THe only con is that they gave the routine kinky/funny Butt or Booty names. They do not match with the conversative look of the fitness host and the very plain surronding she is filmed in. Mind you, the various outfits that she wear does the results of of an intense training on a woman physique..... Jaw-dropping.

3.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable B-Movies.... Mapping problem with reviews, Oct. 3 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Drive-In Collection [Import] (DVD)
There is a mapping problem with the other reviews. They are about another Vinegar Syndrome XXX package. I had the same roblem with my review.

Mix and match movies styles ofyen have disastrous results. Trying to capitalize on many trends not a good idea. THIRSTY DEAD is a mix of a Jungle, Sci-fi, Horror and T&A.... wrapped in a Charlie's angels flick. The other one mixes Vampires, Police, Sci-fi and gothic horror in a Latino bath. Acting is horrendous, but better than the lame special effects. THe acting crew takes himself too seriously and are expecteing to become the next Bogart or Fawcett. You will watch those movies until the end (Story telling in decent) and hate yourself for wasting 3 hours of your existence.

Sound quality is so-so. There are no extras on the DVD. The 2 films are avalaible on mulri-disl sets for cheaper than what the Vinegar S. is tagging this one at.

Not really recommended.
