5.0 out of 5 stars Bryan at his prime, July 12 2014
I own quite some cds and dvds of Bryan, always enjoy his singing, but not as much until watching and 'hearing' this one.
He's at his prime, and this concert is truly unplugged.
6 out of 5 stars. 😊

So touching! If you love music and/or still have faith in humanity, don't miss this great film and Rodriguez's music.
The interview with the director Malik Bendjelloul is also inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Deep Purple Concert on DVD ever!, Oct. 26 2013
This Concert is Deep Purple Mark II, Live from Sydney, Australia in 1984. I own all the DP's official DVDs/BluRays, and this one is easily the best. It's great to see Ritchie having fun playing with the other band members, and so did Ian, Ian, Jon, and Roger. It's also great to watch the 'young' purples (all stil in their 30's at the concert except Jon), so energetic, so skillful. In an interview with Ian, he mentioned that Ritchie thought that he's better than Eric Clapton, to me, even it may be subjective, is true. You can hardly find a band who has such skills to jam and improvise so much in one concert, and such jamming and improvisation are fantastic. The R&R H&F committee, for some reasons, has forgotten such a great band, for which they should have been voted into the R&R H&F in 1993, and is now 20 years overdue. I sometimes think that committee doesn't really listen to music, and still think that Deep Purple is a song, not a band? It owes not only Deep Purple, especially Jon who has passed July last year, and all the DP fans an apology and a satisfactory explanation. Fans, forget such committee, and enjoy this concert, those songs from the 'Perfect Strangers' which were new at that time have also now become some classics. Hope that it will also be released on BluRay very soon! You're the best, and thank you for bringing us so many good music over the years, Jon (RIP, and forgive that committee), Ian, Ian, Roger, Ritchie, and other DP band members.

4.0 out of 5 stars Defective 2nd disc for mine, Jan. 30 2013
5 stars performance, I own both the DVDs and Blu Rays, unfortunately I bought the Blu Rays at a place very far from home, and found that the 2nd disc is defective. Should have bought it from amazon or their market seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible! Incredible! Incredible!, Dec 6 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Live in London (Audio CD)
He didn't look like 68, because he had face lift, but depending on how you see it, we may consider it as his sacrifice as a performer.

His voice was better than before, but of course he couldn't move like a 38 years old in singing 'Copacabana', but don't worry, somebody else danced for him.

No matter why several well-known entertainers have praised him, including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s saying, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped him at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you." I really enjoy it especially when the audience sang along.

It's too short, otherwise, it deserves 7 stars.

Incredible performance, orchestra, and audience too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Great Entertainers!, Nov. 20 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Barry Manilow was born June 17, 1943 as 'Barry Allan Pincus' in Brooklyn, New York, U.S.

Frank Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s saying, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."

Manilow may not be one of the great, but must be one of the best singers; and of course, one of the great entertainers.

As a music lover, sometimes I really 'hate' the critics, some of them are so subjective and biased, or just follow some other 'leading' critics do. Manilow has been so under-rated by some critics, and never got the praises he deserves.

I preferred pure Rock 'n' Roll, and never really dug into his type of music before I watched his concert on television more than 30 years ago. To me, it's an eye opener; so you don't really need to always just listening to 'great' singers to broaden your musical taste.

BTW, I bought this 5 DVD set from a market seller at only C$17.99 + 3.49 SH, it is supposed to be 'used - very good', but I am pretty sure it is actually brand new (and sealed)-so lucky.

There are five tv specials, of 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1988 respectively in this 5 DVD set. Manilow has certainly improved his singing skill over the years, but his voice in these tv specials was so 'young' and 'energetic'. It's really wonderful to watch a 'great' entertainer performing not only live, but with some gags and duets with other good singers.

One of the gags was that he acted as a piano man/singer in a bar, trying to become famous and wanted that one day his songs will be listened by a million people; and the waitress teased him that he must be coming from a 'big' family.

Now after so many years, Manilow doesn't only have million fans, but perhaps billions, even not counting those 'so called' critics, who make believe to themselves that they know how to appreciate music, and know the business better than Sinatra and Dylan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by his teenage idol image of 35 years ago, Nov. 17 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is one of the best live concerts on blu ray, both audio and video quality are excellent. The concert alone is 2 hours 46 minutes, with a lot of great guitar playing and jamming. Peter is one of the greatest guitar players-rather than an aging teenage idol. You won't regret it, if you like great guitar playing or rock and roll. At almost 62, Peter still rocks! Marvellous!

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money for a non die hard fan, Nov. 17 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It contains mainly interviews; so as a non die hard fan, I was expecting some good live materials (the bonus); unfortunately, the quality of the live materials of 48 minutes is so bad. I still give it 2 stars since I don't want to be too subjective, and the die hard fans may like it. Buy the 2004's 'Doobie Brothers - Rockin' Down The Highway: The Wildlife Concert' instead if you are not a die hard fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music and Blu Ray, Oct. 27 2012

Couldn't understand why such a great blu ray is charged at such a low price, whereas some other not as good classical blu rays are charged much much higher.
It's a no brainer, order it and enjoy! Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Robert Plant at its best!, Aug. 23 2012

To me, he never fails to deliver good stuff. This performance must be his best recorded on DVD. He even sings some Christian songs. Fantastic! Band of Joy, not Band of Fun-what a great name! I will surely buy his next release.
