3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad., Sept. 6 2014

Works well and lots of adjustability the the two straps. Didn't appear to be a hole for the headphone cord though. Had to cut a hole in the plastic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too scattered, Aug. 25 2012
A story about implementing lean in auto manufacturing. The story makes see the concepts and application process difficult however as it's scattered throughout the story.
The better books by Jeffery Liker are more useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the finest writing I've ever come across, Nov. 8 2011
This was my first exposure to Hitchens' writing and I was blown away. I have never come across another author whose skill with the English language left me shaking my head in wonder. His knowledge of literature is astounding and the ability to pull apart books and essays in reviews and then combine the contents with information from various sources and his personal experience is breathtaking.

Some of the content is heavy, reviewing authors from the 1920s and 30s while other essays focus on contemporary issues. You will likely need ready access to a dictionary and wikipedia to thoroughly understand some of the topics but several essays inspired me to go back and pick up some of the classic books of literature.

Some people may argue with his conclusions or disagree with his political views but I don't think anyone could argue with the incredible wordsmith power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Examining the value of activity in society, April 10 2010
Dr. Ratey, a psychiatrist in the U.S., have written a powerful book outlining why exercise is crucial for well-being. The unique point of this book however is not what exercise does for our hearts, lungs and muscles, but instead focuses on what it does for our brains.

Chapters include the effects of exercise on kids in school, the use of exercise to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction and aggression as well as the benefits to improving memory and concentration.

It starts with an example from a school district in the U.S. that utilizes a daily fitness-based physical education program and has seen dramatic improvements in academic test scores, student obesity and student aggression. The author then goes on to outline patients from his own practice that have used physical activity for treatment of a wide variety of mental disorders.

The science is thorough and explained in a way that is very accessible to the lay reader.

Highly recommended.

Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
by Christopher McDougall
Edition: Audio CD

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the essential books on modern running, Aug. 22 2009
I found Born to Run to be an excellent book, packed with scientific evidence as well as a thoroughly engaging personal story with interesting characters and ideas.

This book will markedly increase the discussion about how and why we run. McDougall presents a compelling hypothesis that humans are designed to be endurance runners and many of the ills of modern society are linked to the fact that so many of us choose not to run. To back this up, he draws from scientists, coaches and ultra-distance runners around the world. It would be interesting though to hear from the running industry (which McDougall thinks is the cause of many running problems) and coaches and runners who don't share his perspective on training and footwear. This isn't in the book but many opinions easily found on the net in this regard.

Overall, I found the book very well written, engaging and thoughtful. It has encouraged me to change how I view running and given me new inspiration for my runs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and practical advice, June 18 2009
The authors present well thought out and applicable ideas about team leadership and development. While the book using military examples throughout, the book provides examples from civilian life under the "take-away" points for each section. (The audiobook omits many of these and suffers because of it).
I really enjoyed the book and found many points to use within my own organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set of Thor stories, Feb. 26 2009
I picked this book up for my son and we loved reading it. The stories are well told and the art is beautiful. There are eight stories in total involving several of the characters from Norse mythology.

The stories are viking stories and thus have a bit of violence in them similar in nature to many of the other European fairy tales. However, the bad guys aren't overly evil and are more often deceitful or mischievous.

I've since ordered another of Lisa Lunge-Larsen's books - The Race of the Birkebeiners - another great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading on Iraq, Jan. 29 2008
This book is extremely well written and researched. The authors provide a comprehensive analysis of the work of the US intelligence services and the information they provided to the White House prior to and on an ongoing basis during the Iraq war. The authors also outline through a variety of sources, how the key players from the White House interpreted this information and came to the decisions that have led to this point in history.

Hubris is essential reading for anyone who wishes to know more about the decision making that led to our current state of affairs in regards to Iraq and the war on terror.

I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great biography of business, July 28 2007
Another author described this book and Sam Walton's book as two of the best business books ever written. It's definetly one of the best I have read.

After reading this book, I felt reinspired. I sat back and spent a lot of time thinking about how some of the principles outlined in the book can be applied to my company.

I have already recommended the book to friends and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to understand how businesses grow and adapt.
