3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting study of relationships, May 14 2004
This review is from: Aviators Wife, the (DVD)
The most intriguing thing about this movie happened at the very end, giving insight into the main male character and piquing some interest... the movie is unfortunately not otherwise intriguing, and I am sorry to have to give it only three stars. Worth seeing if you like philosophical conversations about men and women and relationships, adultery and jealousy and happiness... there isn't a lot of substance otherwise, I'm afraid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good!, May 12 2004
This review is from: Instinct (Widescreen) (DVD)
I'd heard some criticism of this movie, basically that it was the same thing they did with Hannibal Lecter, same actor, so why bother seeing it, yadda yadda. Not so! I was expecting a different type of movie, and was VERY pleasantly surprised by Instinct. I agree with some of criticism of "stereotypical" prison guards, "eccentric" inmates in the psych wing... yet it works. It's worth your while!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good adaptation of the book, May 1 2004
There were many things missing or different from the book, but what movie adaptation is perfect?... Samuel L. Jackson was wonderful as Romulus, and the story made a good movie. If you enjoy the movie, you should pick up the George Dawes Green book -- same author as The Juror, also adapted into a movie starring Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin.
Also, on the DVD's "Deleted Scenes" section there is a WONDERFULLY choreographed scene with Rom's "moth-seraphs" which is just amazingly beautiful to watch! It's too bad they cut it from the movie, but be sure to take it in when you're going through the Bonus Features.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time, Feb 17 2004
As a "mockumentary" this movie fails miserably, in spite of the stellar cast. See Spinal Tap or Best in Show if you're looking for offbeat humor. *Disappointing* only begins to describe this pathetic piece.

1.0 out of 5 stars AWFUL, Jan 8 2004
This review is from: Very Bad Things (DVD)
Save your time AND your money. Thank the gods I didn't pay theater money, only to have to walk out after the first half hour (as apparently many did). I hit "Stop" on my remote control and went on to better things.
I love black comedy, but this movie falls FAR SHORT of being a good black comedy. Obviously there are many who disagree.
I recommend you look elsewhere for your black comedy because this movie SUCKS.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worthy of the cast!, Jan 5 2003
This review is from: Ravenous (Widescreen) (DVD)
I was drawn in by the stellar cast, and the cast is the only reason this gets two stars instead of one. This movie is the worst I've seen in a long time. Cannibalism as a subject, okay, it exists, I can go for that.... but it became amazingly improbable, more like a slasher/horror flick, and Jason's mask kept coming to mind. Truly an awful movie, and that became apparent about halfway through.
