I don't even know where to begin. There is a fantastic story in here(Spider-Man) and then there's a good one(Ultimates) and then an ok one(X-Men). Mostly this runs through three themes: AMERICAAA!!! RACISM!!! and YAY it's Spider-Man!. The United States is breaking apart and states are declaring independence after what's happened during Jonathon Hickman's run and it's up to The Ultimates to put the country back together. This story was a good read and the art varied from really good to crap depending on the issue. Meanwhile the X-Men are busy in the south trying to rescue all the mutants imprisoned in the concentration camps while the sentinels are running wild killing every mutant can they find. This story was decent but the ending was really anti-climatic and as usual with X-Men titles it's full of unnecessary racism. Sadly this is the end of Paco Medina's art for the series but he leaves with a bang. Spider-Man is dealing with how the country is falling apart in New York and wants to help The Ultimates, for a better look on this story read my review for the third Ultimate Comics Spider-Man book Ultimate Comics Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis - Volume 3. All three series bring lasting changes to the Ultimate universe that are pretty cool and will want you reading more. The format of the book however should have been done better. Each series is separated so you're getting The Ultimates 13-18 then X-Men 13-18 then Spider-Man 13-18 instead of having them like all 13's, then all 14's, then all 15's, etc. But it doesn't throw the story out of order since each story is separate anyway, it just give's some slight spoilers about what's going on in the other two titles. Overall this is a good book to add to your Ultimate Collection but with a mixture of awesome with meh I just don't know what score to give it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The real Demon in a Bottle, May 13 2013

This review is from: Iron Man: Season One (Hardcover)
Iron Man Season One is surprisingly dark especially for the Season One line and that's also what makes it great. I was scared this was just gonna be the first Iron Man movie on paper but boy am I glad how wrong I was. Not only is this a great new origin story but this is how "Demon in a Bottle" should have been. I know a lot of people are gonna be butt-hurt over that statement but even though it is probably the most important story arc for Tony Stark ever, I just found it to be a little underwhelming and too fast. This story forces Tony Stark to deal with his alcoholism in a scary way if he wants to be the one to save the day. The art is a cool painting style but sometimes looks to messy to be able to tell whats going on but only sometimes and it definitely delivers on the action and emotion required to make you feel Tony's desperation. This is definitely one of the better Season One books because how different it is with such a dark story line, especially after what a disappointment Avengers Season One was. Make sure you give this one a chance and maybe you'll learn something new about the Armored Avenger.

Mark Waid's Daredevil is one of those rare treats where you're not reading for the big bad as$ fight scenes or dark brooding characters who just wanna hurt someone. Nope, this is a series that shows Matt Murdock trying to live life in a new happy direction while also trying to convince the general public he's not Daredevil. Waid's handing of Daredevil is as clever as his dialog. With quick wit and different villains than he's used too, Daredevil sure is getting himself into interesting situations. With everyone convinced that Matt Murdock is Daredevil, life isn't easy for him inside or outside to courtroom anymore but he still manages to woo the ladies. One of my favorite parts of this book is when Daredevil teams up with Spider-Man and they're just standing around all buddy buddy talking about good places to swing around New York. Paolo Rivera's art is perfect for this series. It's not very detailed but what makes it great is when he draws Daredevil's radar sense, it's really cool seeing how he perceives things. This is one of the most enjoyable books I have in my collection, more than once did it put a smile on my face and when Matt just can't stay away from the ladies I found myself just thinking "Daredevil you dog you".

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly incredible, April 9 2013
This review is from: Device (Audio CD)
This album has blown my socks off, literally, I still can't find them. I am pleasantly surprised how good this album is. I have been a Disturbed fan for a loooong time now and this...this is something different, something new. Now for all you people who still don't know or are still worried, David Draiman the front man for Disturbed was invited to take on this side project during Disturbed's hiatus. They HAVE NOT broken up, they are just taking a well deserved break. And this is a welcome in between to scratch that Disturbed itch, but like I said this is something different. This album has 10 songs and each of them has their own unique sound which is what makes this album so good. Some songs like "Vilify" have a heavy electronic sound while the AMAZING cover of "Close My Eyes Forever" has a symphony orchestra in the background. Each song is different each song is awesome. The part that blew my socks off was that we get to really get to hear David sing. I'm not talking about his rough growling and metal voice I mean SING. I know we've heard him before on a few songs here and there but this time he really lets loose and it's incredible. And seriously, with guest musicians like Serj Tankian(System of a Down), Tom Morello(Rage Against the Machine), and a few others, you know Device wants to make this the best album they can even if that means asking for a little help to make the songs perfect so be it. So to all you naysayers out there I only have one thing to say: haters gonna hate, calm down and give it a try, you'll probably surprise yourself when you actually realize this is awesome.

Definitely Quentin Tarantino's best movie in recent years and definitely one of his films period. I have watched this movie from beginning to end multiple times and it's still exciting every time. Like Quentin's older flicks the jokes don't get old, they get quotable. Django Unchained has everything mixed together perfectly, plot, action, character development, suspense, aaaaaand over the top swearing, with all of it paced just right for the stories needs. Jamie Foxx gives one of his best performances as Django and Christopher Waltz as Dr. King Schultz has certainly stolen the show with his humor and exceptional beard. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a villain you start to like immediately. Certainly not for his cruel actions but for his gentleman hospitality that he extends to Django and Dr. King even though he has his suspicions. Now we all know that we don't watch Tarantino movies for the action, we watch them for the dialog. Quentin always writes the most interesting dialog and Django Unchained is no exception. Every time I saw this movie everyone kept quite, glued to the screen, and at full attention just waiting to hear what would come out of the characters mouths next. Now there were a couple scenes that made me wonder if the Quentin went to far with how slaves were treated but that just helped me realize we're not as desensitized to violence as politicians like to think and that things can still have a real impact on viewers. If you have the opportunity you should definitely take the chance to view this movie because it truly is a one in ten thousand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Avengers Assemble?...I guess, Mar 25 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Avengers: Season One (Hardcover)
Marvel's Season One line is about bringing those 60's origin stories into the modern world for new and old readers alike, so where's the origin? This Season One starts off with the origin already happened, we missed it, the gathering of Earth's mightiest heroes to defeat a foe none of them could alone has already happened and it was the same one Stan Lee came up 50 years ago. The story is about Loki messing with the newly formed Avengers heads to make them suspicious that each other is a fake or with the enemy. It doesn't even include all of the Avengers that were in that one panel of origin, just Cap, Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk. No Ant-Man or Wasp. The story itself was rather meh and has a quick "TIME TO BAND TOGETHER TO SAVE THE DAY!". There's just nothing special about this story at all and was frankly a let down. The art on the other hand was well done. Why this book needed three artists that all have the same style is beyond me but it all looks alike so it's not enough to complain. The art is a mix between Ed McGuiness and Joe Madureira, very cartoony with bold round details and out of proportion muscles but hey it looks good. So far all of the Season One books have been a treat to read but this one just can't cut it. Aside from having Avengers Assemble #1 at the back of the book to show where the Avengers are now, this one is just ok.

4.0 out of 5 stars A necessary part to the Kick-A$$ story, Mar 20 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I actually enjoyed reading Hit-Girl more than Kick-A$$. While Kick-A$$ 1 & 2 are both enjoyable, I find them to be rather overrated and just don't match the hype. Hit-Girl turns out to be a more satisfying read overall. Mindy trying to cope with a regular life is harder for her than you'd think. She doesn't know whats current and trendy, she knows where to rip a grown mans arm off and beat him to death with it. Mark Millar has nailed how cruel school can be for kids these days with the mean girl cliques and social out casting. And boy does it get satisfying when Mindy finally gets fed up with those mean girls, oh and trying to take out the new head of the mob while she's at it. Now I've never been a fan of John Romita Jr.'s art, I've just never liked it but this time I really enjoyed it and felt that it was "The" definitive style for this story and fit perfectly. This story really is a perfect in-between for Kick-A$$ 1 & 2. It shows Mindy trying to train Kick-A$$ and trying to accept that normal life she has settled into by the beginning of Kick-A$$ 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars The lighter side of the story, Mar 20 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In this second volume Jason Aaron ends his run on the Incredible Hulk with a much lighter tone than the first half. No longer do we have the dark gritty story with the sharp serious art, that time has passed. Now we have the enjoyable and sometimes down right silly story with bright well rounded art that adds to the fun of reading this book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling this slap-stick, Spider-Man, barrel of laughs humor. It just seems the series made a complete 180 from "super serious this is no time for jokes" to well...fun. Hulk is finally rid of Banner and it's time for a vacation but good things never last for super heroes. Each issue has Hulk waking up into a situation he literally has no control of how he gets there until the end when he finally wages war on the one who separated him and Banner. Now each issue has a different art team behind them and normally that would drive me nuts but this time it was rather enjoyable because each of those situations Hulk gets thrown into is completely different than the last and the different art helps that. Overall Jason Aaron's run on the Incredible Hulk was a pretty interesting one that had two very distinct themes to it and both combined makes one great adventure for the big green. I'd recommend this series as a whole and both books should be owned if you interested in reading a very different kind of Hulk story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun introduction, Feb 24 2013

If the site of the names Bendis and Bagley together don't have you buying this already what are you doing on this page? This is Brian Michael Bendis' last Avengers series before leaving the Avengers entirely and moving onto X-Men for "Marvel Now!" and it's a nice little adventure he's concocted. It does a nice job of setting up a couple of things for the Marvel Now! such as the new Guardians of the Galaxy series Bendis will be doing. This series is a nice introduction to comics as a whole because this series was released to coincide with The Avengers movie using the movie team so that new readers would see something familiar and not be immediately lost with the army that makes up the Avengers now. It also helps explain who that purple guy was during the scene half way through the credits. The story is a fun self contained adventure that doesn't require much existing knowledge to get who's who and whats going on. It's very new reader friendly and doesn't tie into anything else that was going on at the time such as AvX. The best parts are definitely when the Guardians of the Galaxy show up, I LOVE Rocket Racoon. Mark Bagley's art is still fantastic but to often it losses some of it's detail and doesn't look as good as it should. I don't know where it happens but somewhere along the line either the inker or the colourist sucks and Bagley's art gets muddled up and it's distracting. As a nice little bonus when you remove the dust jacket, the hardcover has the #1 issue cover printed right on the cardboard (a much better cover than #6 on the dust jacket in my opinion) and an awesome picture of Thanos on the back. The product as a whole is great, a fun story, Bagley art, and classy format, I recommend this book to new and current comics readers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The training wheels are off, Feb 6 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Miles Morales as Ultimate Spider-Man is without a doubt one of my favorite series to read on a monthly basis and is one of the few I can't wait to see what happens next issue. Brian Michael Bendis has never lost his touch through out the whole series to make it just a feel good read that leaves you both satisfied and wanting more at the same time. In this volume you see Miles' persistence and trial and error pay off where he can finally hold his own now. Before it was just him going out and getting lucky he didn't get killed. Now you still see him doing that but with a much clearer understanding of how to take out the bad guys and after the Prowler story arc you see him being an effective super hero. And finally FINALLY he gets his web shooters. After the Prowler story arc we get the Ultimate Spider-Man issues of the latest Ultimate universe crossover event "Divided We Fall/United We Stand", which focus on Miles proving to Captain America he's got what it takes to not only be Spider-Man at such a young age but also be worthy of the Ultimates. Like I said the training wheels are off and it's time for Miles to step up and do his part, and boy did it put a smile on my face watching him on the battlefield taking out enemies in his own interesting way. This volume truly has some inspiring moments for Miles and hard truths for some of the supporting characters to face when trying not to repeat the Peter Parker incident. I hope everyone is enjoying Miles Morales as much as I am because the next book is absolutely one to look forward to because it's going to contain the "Venom War" story arc. That's right VENOM IS NEXT! So everyone should definitely keep up to date on this great series.
