5.0 out of 5 stars What an Amazing Woman, Feb 18 2003
This review is from: Erin Brockovich (VHS Tape)
Wow! This is not another Pretty Woman by any means. Julia's character is a struggling mother who has no question in her mind as to the right and wrong of a whole town's situation, and she isn't afraid to hunt down the evidence and the answers she needs. Erin Brockovich is based on the true story of a woman at the end of her means who is scratching and clawing to keep from drowning while supporting her children, and saving a town. Roberts does an exceptional job portraying Brockovich.

Kudos to both Julia for a job well done, and Erin for making her life what she wanted it to be, while helping those who couldn't have done it on their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Funny!, Feb 12 2003
This review is from: Men in Black (VHS Tape)
This was a great movie. The pairing of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith showed unbelievable ability on the part of the casting directors as the two work very well together. This movie also shows that a great effort was made in the costume department.

There is comedy around every turn that L (Jones) and K (Smith) make as they chase aliens and earase memories. Be prepared for a laugh as you will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Thriller, Feb 12 2003
This review is from: Alien 20th (VHS Tape)
This film is set on the spaceship Nostromo on its return voyage to Easrth. The crew soon finds that they must fight for surrvival when an alien life form is brought on board.

The cast is great and has good chemistry with one another. This is one film that will really scare you, and you will be sitting on the edge of your seat the whole time. Not to mention that the special effects are spectacular.

You won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Patriotic Wonder!, Feb 12 2003
This review is from: Independence Day (VHS Tape)
Alien invaders suddenly descend upon Earth across the world. A computer geek, David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), figures out how the alien ships are communicating with each other and he manages to have an audience with President Whitmore (Bill Pullam), as his ex-wife is one of the president's top aides. Wonder and excitment at the arrival of the aliens quickly turns to terror, as is becomes clear that the nature of their arrival is not friendly. Naturally, mankind is victorious on July 4th giving Independence Day a new meaning. Much to the dismay of British viewers from what I have heard.

This is a fast paced film, with a cast that is not only well kow but also talented and they work wonders together. The special effects spectacular.

This was a film that I really didn't expect. The cast was also a surprise, but a very pleasant one.

Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are fraternal twin brothers who were seperated at birth not only from each other, but from their mother and fathers. That alone should tell you that you are in for a wonderfully suprising comedy that will not disapoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sequel - Very Rare, Feb 12 2003
This review is from: Aliens (VHS Tape)
This was a fantastic film. Lt. Ripley is the only survivor of the spaceship Nostromo after it's fatal incounter with Aliens. She has been adrift in space for 57 years. Not a soul believes her far fetched story of the Aliens and her flight status is revolked, that is until the alien planet that has since been colonized, can no longer be reached. A very reluctant Ripley is sent with a band of gung-ho space marines to investigate.

This film is fast paced and action packed, but doesn't leave much for the veiwer to guess at. Instead of one Alien the writers have opted for many aliens, probably in hopes of making up for what the film now lacks in suspense. As with the first film, the special effects are excellent. As is the acting of the lead character Ripley (Weaver).

Overall this was a spectacullar film, and one of the best sequals I have ever seen. The characters stayed true to the form laid out in the first film and the writers changed just enough to make this a different flick altogether. Not a dissapointment in the least.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Arnold's First, Feb 12 2003
This review is from: Conan the Barbarian (VHS Tape)
I have seen this movies several times, and although I cannot say that it is one of my favorites, it is far from the worst I have ever seen.

This is certainly one of Arnold's first flicks, and although his acting was not at the level it is now, he didn't do a half bad job.

This is a film that is a must have if you collect classics.

The Cay

5.0 out of 5 stars A Memorable Classic, Feb 10 2003
This review is from: The Cay (Paperback)
This is an award-winning novel for good reason, and will always remain a classic. This novel touches on serveral important topics such as prejudice, love, and survival.

This novel takes place during the years of World War II. 11-year-old Phillip Enright lives with his parents on the island of Curaçao. When the war becomes too close for comfort, his mother decides to travel with him back to Virginia in hopes of finding safety. It is on the journey to Virginia that their boat is torpedoed. Phillip is one of only a few known survivors, and is blinded during the sinking of his ship. He soon finds himself adrift on a life raft with an old black man named Timothy and a cat. They eventually land on a deserted scarap of land much too small to be called an island (hence the name Cay).

Phillip is suspicious of Timothy, but as they suffer through the hardships they must face he soon grows to trust and to later love Timothy.

This is a truly remarkable book, and leaves small wonder as to why it is now required reading for school children. I find it benificial to all ages myself, and would recommend it to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Considering the Shoes it had to Fill, Feb 10 2003
This review is from: Predator 2 (VHS Tape)
Considering that this is a sequal to one of my favorite movies of all time it wasn't half bad. To follow in the wake of a movie the caliber of Predator is hard to do.

In my opinion the only reason this movie worked at all is because of the changes the makers of the film made to the setting and the cast. If they had tried to do a sequal without these changes it probably would have flopped. It was good that they shook things up and gave the veiwers something else to ponder.

Now in the jungles of Los Angeles instead of the jungles of a Souoth American country the hunt has begun yet again. Danny Clover does a great job of avoiding his own slaughter, and does eventually take down the bad guy. If you go into this movie expecting a film of the same caliber of its predecessor you will be slightly disapointed, but if you have an open mind be prepared for a not perfect, but enjoyable ride.

This was a change for Arnold, but not a bad one. I found this movie to be warmly amusing. It was actual nice to see a softer side of the Terminator.
