Disappointing., July 5 2011
Overall, this cookbook has been disappointing. There is ONE chocolate cake recipe in it that I've made and people absolutely love it, including myself. So, the cookbook is not a total waste, there are SOME good recipes in it. Although, too many recipes fail. I read the recipes carefully and followed the recipes word for word just like the author of the book instructed, but still, time and time again the end results have been inedible. This is especially problematic when all of the ingredients are specialty ingredients (a.k.a. extremely expensive ingredients). Still, if you really need a vegan and mostly-gluten-free cookbook, this book has a handful of recipes that may even become favourites. Whatever you do though, do NOT attempt to make the icing. I tried making the icing on three different occasions (with 3 different types of "soymilk powder") and it's never resulted in anything that looked even remotely like icing, much less edible. From reading other reviews, it appears to me that most people have found that the icing recipe fails too.

Delicious!, July 5 2011
This cookbook looked like lots of fun prior to buying it, but I wasn't sure how useful it would be for every-day cooking. Well, it turns out that the recipes are absolutely perfect for all-occasions: family meals at home, potlucks, picnics, barbecues, and parties! The dishes turn out quite large, so if cooking for only a few people you may find there are left-overs. But, do not cut those recipes in half! (Although I'm sure doing so would turn out fine.) So far, all of the recipes I've made have been just as good the next day!! My favourite recipe so far have to be the coleslaw. It was literally the best coleslaw I've ever had, vegan or otherwise! I used coconut syrup instead of agave syrup because that's what I had on hand and it worked out perfectly! The Mac&"Cheese" is also amazing. I like it because, unlike store-bought cheese alternatives, this doesn't taste remotely plastic! I felt good about the recipe prior to making it, since it didn't have any heavily-processed ingredients, just regular ingredients we are all used to (nuts, pasta, spices, etc.), but even though I had high hopes I never imagined it turning out as well as it did. The Mac&"Cheese" been a huge success on three occasions now, and has become my favourite left-over meal ever!
