Chilling, but a little over drawn out, Feb 26 2003
When this came out the first thing I heard s that this is the most frightening movie within the past 10 years. It is so weird and chilling that it kept my fearless 17 year old brother up at night. Well I don't know about frightening but it was a weird movie. The RIng starts off like any horror movie with a teenage victim. The girl Katie watched the video with three friends and within a week they all die. After that her Aunt Rachel goes out to solve the mystery. She ends up finding the tape and watching it. She now has a week to solve it. As the mystery dwells deeper into the tale of a family with a bad misfortune many years ago and the stranger mystery of their daughter leading to a chilling finale, if not a little over done. Now for the biggest complaint. When my brother first saw this it immediatly reminded him of Silent Hill (Most chilling Playstation game ever) and how at the time of it's release it was so dark and freaky that we couldn't play it in the dark. Well like any gutsy horror fan I watched this in the dark, in it's entirty. I wasn't afraid once. Disturbed once or twice, but not frightened. I also got the feeling that it was released shortly after Fear Dot Com because in many ways the two movies were similar. Obviously this one was better made. Also the ending was way drawn out (By ending I mean the Jumper FInale that is in all Horror Films). However past that you have a very solid horror film that is surprisingly PG-13. Great for Teenage Girls Sleepovers that get them afraid. I would recomend this title.

I don't understand the thrill of this, Feb 24 2003
Texas Chainsaw Massacre was for the 70's what Blair Witch Project was for the 90's. A low budget Hoax that did not prduce very good thrills and even less chills. The idea behind Texas Chainsaw is that a group of teens are traveling across Texas when theypick up a hitchhiker who looks a little crazed. WHen he starts doing some strange things (Such as cutting himself with a razor) they throw him out. Later they come upon an abandoned house and while exploring they discover a cabin further down the road. This is where we meet LEather Face (who is dressed up as woman) and he immediatly dispatches of a number of them. In the end one girl survives his twisted family and as she tries to escape she is pursued by Leather Face and his kin. This movie by today's standards is not very good. True when it gets towards the end it is relentless but so was Blair Witch. Unfortunatly with this movie the gore is lackluster, the acting is poor, and the whole thing led to an hour and a half of pure boredom. I shall pass on this one.

More Beutiful scores from Final Fantasy, Feb 19 2003
Just like Final Fantasy S: Generation, this cd is a compelation of remixes to music from the previouse games. In this case the music is from the games 1-6. While there are not as many memorable tracks from this one as in the case of S Generation (Where was FFV Gilgemesh THeme) there is enough here to satisfy Final Fantasy Nuts, like myself, or even fans of orchestra and opera. the CD starts of the very memorible theme from Final Fantasy 1 (The first Bridge that the heroes cross and the credits start) which would evolve throughout the variouse games. It also features such memorible tracks as the opera scene from FFVI, teh CHocobo theme from FFV, as well as Rydia theme and the Moogle Theme. OVerall this is more great music that should not be missed.

Very Nice, Feb 19 2003
Final Fantasy is known for 2 things over any thing else, very involving stories, and wonderful soundtracks. This case is no different and really nice. This is in some ways the best of and in others questionable. The music on here are remixes of the origional scores from the games, in this case games VII, VIII, and IX. Of course like so many cd's out there, there are tracks that surpass the rest. This once again demonstrates that case. Here are the tracks that I deemed the best. Track 1: Final Fantasy VIII opening. Track 3: Final Fantasy VII World Map Track 5: Final Fantasy IX Fight theme Track 8: Angel Sephiroth Track 13: Aeris Theme. However just because those tracks are the best does not mean that rest of the music is garbage. For the most part all the music is orchestra remixes. However as in the case of Track 5 it is more of a Techno style music, and in the case of Track 1 and 8 it is opera. Overall this is great music to have, no matter if you are into Final Fantasy or not.

A Dark and Disturbing work that is not for everyone, Feb 17 2003
One Hour Photo is one of the most unique films of the year, and is a definite one of the most worthy for any type of awards out there (although i say the academy awards and Oscars dont mean squat anymore, this is one of the few films worthy of truelly winning that, like One flew over the Cuccos NEst and ROcky). The story behind this is that Robin Williams plays clerk at a one hour photo shop. He has been working there for 20+ years and over the pst 9 has helped this wonderful family that he truely loves. He is very friendly, but very introverted. Hoever this family fills hinm with joy, they are like the perfect family to him. However his boss does not like him, and tries to do whatever he can to get him fired. Finally when he discovers that up to 100 photos have gone missing over the years, as well as a disposible camera that Williams character gave the son over, WIlliams loses his job. In the course of this he hits a state of depression and he discovers shortly there after that the perfect family he admires, is not so perfect, as the husband has been cheating on the wife, and the Mistress has been photographing the whole ordeal. These turn of events leads to a very chilling very sad ending that wraps up this really unique movie. I also got the feeling that either the Writer or the Director was a Neon Genesis Envangellion Fan because of frequent looks on that and also how WIlliams Character went through a shocking and drastic change much like Shinji did in NEon Genesis Envangellion (If you have no idea what I am talking about, Neon Genesis is an Anime sereis that is around 25 episodes and is very strange but very powerful). I am giving this movie 5 stars because it is that damn good. However in all honesty it is one of those movies that you can only wath once, because after that it starts to lose it's effect. Maybe I will look back on it in a few years, but really this is a classic that should not be missed.

The worst of the 45 minute shorts thus far, Feb 12 2003
Ever since the first three films (Dead ZOne, Tree of Might, World's strongest) the Dragon Ball Z movies have been relegated to nothing but 45 minute shorts. Some actually fit into the story line (Coolers Revenge, Bardock, History of Trunks) while the others were just like in an alternate universe. This fits into the Alternate Universe. It's hard to guess when this one should of taken place, but guesssing from the way it is done, the story starts off after Cell, or before the Cell Games. Goku and GOhan are out shopping with CHiCHi one day, while Roshi, Krillian, OOlong, and Future Trunks are standing in a line hopping to get into a fashion show. They are the only ones in this line. Soon a set of androids appear, one looking like a fairly traditional warrior and the other a seventies reject. After a brief amount of Chaos GOku and Trunks lure them away from the city and towards the Artic. GOhan and Krillian soon follow. While they are battling the Androids constantly seem to get the upper hand. Then Vegeta and Piccolo show up. The three sayjins go into Super Sayjin mode and soon really heat things up. Androids 14 and 15 are soon destroyed. Android 13 seems to be in a losing battle until he absorbs androids 14 and 15 (Just like Cell) and transforms into this blue hulking beast that is seemingly indestructable. HE takes out everyone until Goku starts to gather energy for the Spirit BOmb, and well I won't spoil the ending but it defies certain rules in the DBZ universe. This one unfortunatly is the worse of the lot thus far. The battle sequences were OK but really went very far. The fact that it should take place after Cell causes some problems (Most specifically why Gohan does not goe Super Sayjin 2, or even level one for that matter) the androids lacked personality, except for 13 who sounded like a Trucker. End result is that this is definetly for Fans, but even Die HArd fans will see the problems that this has involving the universe. Especially in the end.

The series ended with confusion and class, Feb 6 2003
Neon Genesis Evangellion is for the record not the best in the field of Anime. In fact I strongly have to believe that the only reason it recived such praise is the fact that it became incredibly bizzare towards the end. Very few talk about the battles, but more on how twisted the story got. However despite all the talk on how the series really is it's time to talk about how the series ended and why the movies kill the series. In the final set of episodes (aka this DVD) there are a lot of problems going on with NErv and all of them. It starts off shortly after Shinji was forced to slay his best friend Karu, who turned out to be the final Angel. At this point Shinji is in a horrific state of depression and anger, while the ohter Characters are in their own problems. Rei is starting to realize just what she truely is, Auska is still pretty much comatose, and Nerv in General is facing not only complete shutdown, but total annihalation. But the final two episodes focus on the central character, shinji. In the final two episodes Shinji is going through some very very deep soul searching. He is trying to understand why he was forced to kill Karu, why he is introverted, why he hates his father, and basically his sexuality as well. He is in some cases lectured by mental images of Auska, Rei, Misato, and the rest of the cast as he sits in a chair in what appears to be a school auditorium. During his soul searching he even enters an alternate reality where the 2nd impact never occured. He and Auska have been friends since they were children, his mother is still alive, his father is kind and loving man, and they encounter a new student, a very open minded Rei. The way this sequence (all 10 minutes of it) plays out it reminds viewers (or at least me) a lot of the way the series started when they all met for the first time (or at least when Auska first showed up). In the end of these two episodes I got the impression that he in some small manner found what he was looking for all along. He finally started to understand who he was and as a result he was ready to take the next step in life, and start to grow up and become a man, or at least an active teenager. Overall the series had it's rough spots. There were moments that were just mind boggiling dumb or vague, and when it really turned weird is where you started to see where the creator had his mental breakdown. However despite all of that the series did end in class, and this is the ending that should be stuck with, not that piece of Garbage End of Envangellion. Watch this one and ignore the trash.

One of the best Family Fantasy films of all time, Jan 23 2003
After watching the movie one can tell that it was a plot to convince america that we are turning into televised slobs and seem to be abandoning the rich and fluid world of the imagination and books. Most of the time these little gags fall flat on their faces. However with Neverending Story it is truely one of a kind in the relm that it has a strong message, and a touching story that one can't help but love. The Neveredning Story starts off with the young boy Bastian who is constantly tormented by a group of bullies. One day as he is running away from them he hides inside of a dusty old book store where he meets an ecentric old book keeper. The old man doesn't like bastian because Bastian is part of the TV era. However Bastian likes to read books. The old man turns his back for a moment and bastian borrows the book the old man was reading the Neverending story. At that point Bastian hides out in the school storage room where he starts to read the book. The story he reads (and of course we witness) is the story of an evil force known as the Nothingis slowly destroying the world of Fantasia. It is up to a young warrior known as Atreu who must journey through out Fantasia and find a way to destroy the Nothing. Along the way he meets up with Falcore the Luck Dragon, the Rock Biter, and an assortment of many other characters in the attemp to save Fantasia. In the End Atreu and BAstian have more in common than they think and it falls into Bastians hands to save Fantasia (the childs imagination). This heart warming and truely awsome tale is one of the best in the field of Fantasy. It is truely a one of a kind and the sequels and remake only taint this wonderful classic. It also leaves a strong message that while TV is fun for a while, the human imagination (helped along by reading novels) is truely the greatest thing available.

Nothing to really brag about, Jan 23 2003
Eternal is an OK horror film. The idea is that Nora and her Husband Jim, along with their son Jim, travel to Ireland to visit her ailing grandmother. While there she stays with her Uncle Bill (Christopher Walken) who seems to be as ecentric and insane as he described her Grandmother. FOund this 2000 year old druid witch mummy in the bog and seems to be trying to ressurect her. HE succeeds and he dies. From there the witch is trying to fuse with Nora and live her life out again for another 100 years or so. As it turns out however that Nora Grandmotehr is Good Witch and with Nora help slays the evil witch. This movie is only Ok and is a weekend rental. There is mild violence and gore, and really the R rating goes for the [f]word ... being said a few times, a slit throat, and a lot of drinking.

PRocede with caution., Jan 22 2003
Before I continue I must warn you that if you do desire to watch this flm, do proced with caution, this is not for the weak of stomach. House on the Edge of the Park is dark and disturbing movie about a blue collared worker and his semi retarded buddy who happen to be serial rapist. This is clearly seen in the beggining when the main killer gets cut off by this woman. HE runs her off the road, breaks in and rapes her. Later this rich young couple show up at his place of busines and offer him to join them at their party. At that point after a few tease jobs and mild insults he ends up holding them hostage with a razor blade as he and his buddy procede to rape the woman (or at least degrade them) and in some cases hurt them. The men they beat up pretty badly. Eventually like so many other films the provebial ...hits the fan and the get away relativly unharmed but greatly degraded (the families there). OVerall this is an exploitation film that would not be to succesful here in america. This is cult hit for those into this kind of film. Past that it would be a renter (if you can find it).
