5.0 out of 5 stars The first 8 seasons were an absolute joy to watch, Aug. 24 2015
they included drama, mystery, and comedy reprieve. Alun Armstrong has become one of my very favorite actors - have seen him in other serious roles too. He seems to be able to portray everything from a boring husband to and off kilter eccentric without even batting an eye! From seasons 1 - 8, the story lines, actors, characters, directing, etc were great, beautifully well done, everything from dramatic heart wrenching to laugh out loud, both within the same episode. They put a human equation into the characters, gave them a little more depth and personality than the original Law and Order shows where you knew very little of their daily lives, but without the "soap opera" or "reality" show settings! Starting from season 9, the episodes got so serious with very little humor. Alun Armstrong left the show mid season in 10 because he felt his character was getting boring, and it really did. A shame, since he and his character made the show, there was so much to work with that character and he played it exceptionally well. After set 10, they are still good, but if I give sets 1-8 a Ten, I would give sets 9+ a Seven

2.0 out of 5 stars definitely not worth the money people are asking for this movie!, Aug. 20 2015
This review is from: Private Function [Import] (DVD)
even if it were a 5 star movie, it is not even worth 1/10 th of the asking price for this movie! Not the typical funny British fare I'm used to, and had to really look to recognize Maggie Smith : ) what really made me recognize her was her voice since I didn't really start watching her in films until she was little older, it was odd seeing her so young lol

DVD ~ Kevin Spacey

2.0 out of 5 stars found myself playing computer games while watching, Aug. 20 2015
This review is from: Shrink (DVD)
it obviously did not have my full attention. Have seen better movies with Kevin Spacey. Somewhat of a dark movie - even still, have seen better movies that are on the dark side. Don't think it was Kevin Spacey that I didn't like, I found it a little slow and the script and directing all over the map

2.0 out of 5 stars better than the Monty Python films John Cleese starred in, Aug. 20 2015

but not as funny as Faulty Towers. Would have given it at least a 3 star but didn't like the depiction of killing off the old lady's dogs, don't think that animal abuse is funny. Other than that, it was okay for a loan

2.0 out of 5 stars Am not really into this line of humor so don't rely solely on my rating, Aug. 1 2015
I gave the first one a 3 rating, this one did not come to par with the first. Have seen Jason Bateman in better movies. Am not really into this line of humor so may not be fair for me to rate this at all. My brother may like this sort of humor. I might give it a try again, have on loan for a week since it is not as bad as some movies I've seen that weren't even worth a rating at all, this at least deserves some credit

3.0 out of 5 stars a couple of good parts. For the most part, Aug. 1 2015
It was okay to watch, a couple of good parts. For the most part, it was not really along the lines of my particular sense of humor, though far better than Monty Pythong, at least Horrible Bosses was not a choppy movie, it did flow. I wish I had the option of either adding on at least another half a point (giving a 3.5) or having the option of rating it from 1-10 and given it a 7. This would have been more along my brothers' sense of humor, he like Vince Vaugh and Colin Farell and Dumb and Dumber movies which I do not like in the least. (Those movies I would rate a 0 given the option to do so)

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 hours and 21 minutes long and was anxious to wrap it up, Aug. 1 2015
Good Movie and good performances by all the cast. Am used to movies being between 90 - 120 minutes. My sister thought they should have had a little closure near the end on a couple of loose threads, but it didn't matter to me, the main story line centred on the "father and son". this was my first time watching a film with Robert Downey Jr. and he was okay. Have seen Billy Bob Thornton in a couple of films and he plays diverse characters. Vincent D'nofrio usually plays intense characters well and have liked him as the lead character whenever I see him. This is only the 2nd movie I've ever seen with Robert Duvall, the 1st being the original Godfather and I was only 12 years old - am still not into that movie so can't judge him on that, but he gave a good performance for this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow and choppy, the ending came out of nowhere, July 30 2015
Way too slow and did not want to rate it even this high. It did not have a lot of emotion; was all over the map; could have been more in depth, room for improvement and the ending came out of nowhere. There was absolutely no lead up to it or what happened after ward. I have seen John Lithgow in other shows and found him to be an energetic actor that looks as if he is a seasoned theatre actor, which is why I watched it the whole way through trying to give it a chance. It was a combination of the directing and too many still shots and scenes where they should have really moved forward and put more detail into it rather than spending what felt like minutes on him painting and looking at the outside of a pub with nothing going on, not even people walking past, that made movie so slow.
I wish Amazon gave the option for a 0 - 10 rating rather than 1- 5 (unless it is supposed to be like rating a hotel?) since there are movies I would have liked to give higher than a five, with this one I would have give less than a 1... am happy I borrowed rather than invested any money into it, though I will never get my time back

1.0 out of 5 stars Typical Hugh Grant, July 29 2015
This review is from: Nine Months (DVD)
Am happy that I did not purchase this movie or rent it. My sister was watching it, and is the stereo typical Hug Grant movie/ character. He can't help playing the man who has "the boy who never grew up", or Peter Pan syndrome. I guess if you like girly girl movies you may not mind this movie - my sister being one of them who loves Love Actually and Notting Hill :( I am not a big fan of that genre, and it ended up "happily ever after" which is an ending I can't stand in a movie, preferring the more realistic ending! Hugh Grant is Not a versatile actor (and does not have a boyish good look and charm) and could take lessons from Geoffrey Rush in acting!
