5.0 out of 5 stars Has Made Many People Afraid To Take A Shower!!!, June 28 2004
This review is from: Psycho (Widescreen) (DVD)
I seen this movie when I was around 8, and up to a few years ago, I was afraid to take a shower without leaving at least one eye open. Then again Janet Leigh was once quoted as saying that she has been afraid of taking a shower ever since she did the movie. But one has to remember this, this movie was the work of the Master of suspense, and I do not use that word loosely. Alfred Hitchcock was very detail minded. He did not just "throw together" films to make a quick buck, but was very detail oriented. He gave 100% to all of his works. As for the movie itself, it's the story of a motel located on the outskirts of town in which people check in, but they don't check out... at least alive. It is filled with horror, suspense, drama, and action. I want so much to share with you what makes this movie more shocking, more "catch you off guard", but if I do, it will lose some of its uniqueness (did I spell that right?) This is definitely not a movie for kids, not unless you want to deal with the possibility of yours having countless nightmares and being scared to take a shower! Remember what I said about when I seen it. If you want a movie that is a classic, and one of the top horror movies of all time, then please get this one. The DVD version comes with cool extra's, including a sort of "behind the scenes" tour. If you have never seen this film, you'll definitely want to put your seat up against the wall so you won't constantly be looking over your shoulder.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Dialogue Movie, May 26 2004
This review is from: Desert Blue (DVD)
Someone created jobs, putting a lot of actors and studio people to work, and also endorsed (perhaps indirectly) some pretty good products. Other than that, there's really not much to say about this movie. While it does have its moments, it's not one I'd knock down the doors of the video outlet to get to. In fact, this is one of those movies you'd watch when you've already viewed everything else in the store.
It's the story about people who live in the small town of Baxter, California (population 87). A truck has overturned spilling a mysterious chemical, and the driver of the truck dies. Investigators believe he died from whatever the chemical is. Soon the FBI arrive and quarantine the entire town, leaving everyone wondering whether or not they are going to live or die a horrible death. A man and his daughter who came to sort of sight see while on their way to an audition, end up along with the townspeople, unable to travel further since the FBI have set up road blocks around the area. What will happen to these people? You'll need to get the movie and find out.
The film does have an array of interesting characters. One of them, a deputy who wants to be a sheriff in another town tends to make mountains out of mole hills. It's ironic in that I actually know policemen and women who are just like his character.
If you're a Christina Ricci fan, you're sure to love this movie in that she is peppered throughout it. Roles are played well, and hers is the most unigue of the bunch. She's definitely a girl you would not want to make mad, and when you see the movie you'll understand why. In a way, the movie has two plots. One of course is the story of what's going to happen to the quarantined people, the other is finding out the facts concerning a mysterious fire at a motel. I did like the dialogue in that it was at times thought provoking. As the people tried to go about their daily activities as normally possible, they brought up interesting outlooks on life, and on what could be their last days alive.
There is a minimum amount of action in this film. It is a movie for people who enjoy dialogue. There is no nudity, no overt sexual situations, but it does have strong language. There is romance, but not to the point to where you would want to cover the eyes of your kids. One of the "highlights" of the film is where the teens of the town get into an orange war, then one part where someone gets shot trying to leave town. I own the movie, and I've watched it once, and perhaps I will again, still, this is not a grand epic action packed film.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Edge-Of-Your-Seat Style Of Movie, May 25 2004
This review is from: The Dirty Dozen (Widescreen) (DVD)
Are you looking for a movie with a great plot, perfectly timed action, and superb acting and directing? Look no further. This film, set in World War II, chronicles the covert operations of a group of military convicts, and their non-convict leader behind enemy lines. It is their task to sneak in and assassinate a large group of key German officials.
The movie starts with the commander (played by Lee Marvin, in arguably his greatest role) picking out some of the best, but also some of the most expendable men in the Army. He goes to the prison and gives them a deal. If they will fight, their sentences will be dismissed and they will be free. Most of these men are awaiting execution, while others have long prison terms. His first goal is to make them ready for combat, which proves to be no easy task, as these guys, who seemingly have nothing to lose, give him a hard time. But eventually, under his command, he creates an elite team of fighters. Now, the next objective is to learn the layout of the area they are to infiltrate, which is a huge French chateau, then sneak in and attack. But will they make it? Of course I will not tell you, you will need to see the movie yourself. But what I will tell you is that this is one of those films with an all star cast and loads of edge-of-your-seat action!!! Besides Lee Marvin, you have Telly Savalas, football great Jim Brown, the late VERY great Charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland ( Sutherland fans will also love the movie Kelly's Hero's), Ernest Borgnine, Clint Walker ( who also starred in the film Night Of The Grizzly), George Kennedy (who co-starred in the hilarious Naked Gun films), and a host of others too numerous to mention. Besides Action, the film incorporates a delicious amount of drama, suspense, comedy (the war games part will give you a good laugh), Horror (when Telly Savalas goes off the deep end), and intrigue.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, May 17 2004
This review is from: Fortress [Import] (VHS Tape)
This is not one of those movies where you should bust the door down to get it, yet it is a pretty good "crime/drama". I honestly don't see where people get that this is a "thriller". It's about a teacher (played by Rachel Ward) who teaches in a very very small country school in Australia. It begins with what she thinks is going to be a normal day, but she, and her students, quickly have their day turned upside down when they are kidnapped by a group of ruthless cutthroats sporting masks and guns. One is wearing a Santa Claus like mask, while the others have on animal masks. They take the teacher and her students at gun point, and lead them to an awaiting van. Then they are driven to an undisclosed location and ordered to jump down into a cave. But what the kidnappers don't realize is there is a way for them to escape, which they do, only to have bad luck and run into the hoodlums again. Pooh!!! Will things ever work out for them? Now, if you know my reviews, you know I'm not going to tell you, but what I will say about this movie is that it has a good plot, suspense, drama, gore, and well timed action. There is also a bit of nudity (topless). I would not recommend it for those under 14 for the simple reason of the gore. If you have not seen this movie and would like to see a pretty good story, it would be worth the time to view.

4.0 out of 5 stars As Near To The Real Thing As You Can Get, May 6 2004
When I first started watching Columbo, I often wanted to be a detective. When I first started watching Mike Hammer, I often wanted to be a detective. When I watched Magnum P.I., I often wanted to be a detective. Now I watch CSI, and I do not want to be a detective. In fact, after watching one episode, I went up to a guy I went to school with who is now a coroner, shook his hand and told him he was the better man. I told him he had more guts than I did, in that I would not ever want his job. This is not a TV show for those (like myself) who cannot eat pizza after seeing someone's charred body, as is sometimes seen on the show. CSI holds no punches. Shows like Columbo, Mike Hammer, and Magnum, while at times are bloody, give the viewer a more "romantic side" of the occupation so to speak, while CSI gives you an almost raw view of what it is really like to work in the detective field. In short, detective work really isn't a glamorous occupation. If someone's brains are blown out, CSI shows you up close, all the little noodles (which of course remind me of purple macaroni, thus disgusting me from eating macaroni for awhile). If a lady has her eyeball fall out, they show the eyeball up close (do you get the picture?) Still, this is a show that is very intriguing. Of course you want to watch it to find out if they catch the murderer(IF it is a murder, which on this program, sometimes it is not). Like most any detective show, it's the CSI teams' expertise in the field and their luck, that helps them put the pieces together, and CSI does it in such a manner as to make MOST of their shows believable. And the reason I stress MOST, is that sometimes, their shows do tend to go out there. I have beyond perfect vision in one eye, and perfect vision in the other, and even I would have a hard time seeing some of the things they seem to spot a mile away with their mini flashlights. But even with this one flaw, CSI is a show I look forward to watching week after week. I also love CSI Miami. CSI gets its entertainment value from the relief of the cases being solved. The first season of CSI was superb at the worst. It blew Law & Order out of the water, and continues to do so. CSI combines forensic science with action, drama, suspense, horror, occasional comedy (in the right moment) and intrigue. I would not recommend it for viewers under the age of 16 for the fact of the gore, and sometimes racy scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must For U2 Fans Or Anyone Who Likes To Rock, April 28 2004
Are you someone who would like to see some of U2's earlier concert work? Well here it is. You get moment after moment of Rock and Roll the way it was meant to be played... Live and Loud. This one was filmed at the famed Red Rocks, a sort of outdoor Arena.
What I admire most about this U2 concert, is their dedication to excellence. While fans wear jackets and coats, U2 performs in the freezing cold. Steam is clearly seen coming off their sweating bodies and from Bono's lips as he sings song after song.
Inspiring music, moving music with a beautiful Heavenly sound, and good hard hitting Rock-n-Roll, is the best way to describe what is on this video. Please note that this concert is from 1983. 12 songs are performed, including the mega hits Sunday Bloody Sunday(of which the clip was used on MTV back in the 80's), New Year's Day, and Gloria.
If you like unflinching Rock And Roll at its best, you can't do without this video. I own it, and it was WELL worth what I paid for it. Any music that brings a glorious tear to my eyes is worth what I pay for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Movie But Don't Expect To See A Lot Of KISS, March 11 2004
This is a good movie. I've seen it twice. But I thought I would see lots of KISS, when actually they only perform one song at the end of the movie. It's a film about 4 boys who bought tickets to see their favorite band KISS. Then the mom of one of the boys, finds the tickets and destroys them because she claims the band is "SATANIC". Now what are they to do? Will they make it to see the band, or will they have to wait another until another tour? I'm not going to tell you what happens, you have to get the movie and see for yourself. The one thing I like about the film is that it is pretty accurate with the way it was in high school in the 70's (I know, I lived it). The guys remind me of people I went to school with. In that time, there was disco freaks and hardcore rock and roll fans. Rock and roll prevailed. At the first of the movie, you get to see bunches of clips on KISS, but they are brief, plus, you get shots of KISS memorabilia, and KISS fans dressing like band members. The ending of the movie is both inspiring and C-O-O-L!!! It's got strong language, but not like SCARFACE where one four letter word was used over 140 times. If you like movies with a lot of action, suspense, drama, comedy (the part where they go in the girl's bathroom at school is hilarious), and overall great acting, you are sure to love this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE ROCK AND ROLL, March 11 2004
This review is from: Boston (Audio CD)
Do you enjoy music that is basically upbeat and mind blowing? Look no further. Boston was, and is, one of the definitive bands of the 70's, and hold a rare world record. They hold the record for "The biggest selling debut album". Over 15 million copies of this superb album have been sold, and no wonder! This is pure rock and roll. There are no depressing, slow paced, cry your eyes songs here. The hits "More Than A Feeling", "Peace Of Mind", and Longtime, plus, the other songs are good to listen too, especially if you're feeling the blues, they can pick you up. You know those rock and roll bands who perform music and you can hardly understand a word they are saying? Well, these guys aren't like them. This is the kind of music that borders on Heavy Metal, but is more like Hard Rock. There's not a bunch of cursing as compared to other artists, and you will find yourself wanting to raise the windows in your place and let the whole neighborhood hear what you are listening too. It's that good. There is absolutely no mistaking what these boys are playing. There's tons of guitar play, some keyboard, and of course rockin bass and drums. Anyone who knows anything about music will NOT mistake it for country, or rap, or blues. This is KICK REAR ROCK AND ROLL. No matter your age, no matter your sex, no matter your religion, no matter what country you're from, no matter if you're rich or poor, no matter what, If you like music that will stur your soul, you WILL love this CD. I own it, and I thoroughly LOVE it.

5.0 out of 5 stars DARN GOOD MOVIE!!!!!!!!, March 2 2004
This review is from: Pecker [Import] (VHS Tape)
He's the gentleman who did such a superb performance in Detroit Rock City, now in this movie he plays an aspiring photographer who's work includes everything from a pic of his sexy girl friend, (played by the ravishing Christina Ricci) to photos of the food cooked on the grill where he works. His art evolves around his life in a lower middle class neighborhood in Baltimore Maryland.
Then one day, Pecker (yes that's his name in the movie) holds an exhibit of his work in the grill. Just so happens an expert in photographic art is there and she buys one of the photos then inquires about having him come to New York and exhibit his work there.
Pecker goes to NY, and his exhibit is a success, bringing him instant fame, as well as many of the people he has photographed. But fame has its price, especially when many of the town folk turn against him for making their lives a public display. Lives are transformed, and at the first, in a bad way. His sugar hyper sister is put on medication by Social Services, which puts her in a zombie state, his girlfriend is hounded by "excited" men to the point to where even where she works isn't safe due to pervs who drop in to "display" their activities, and others experience different types of changes. But as the movie proceeds, lives become better for the town folk, as Pecker does another exhibit and exploits the exploiters.
Instead of his hometown people, Pecker shows off photos of the photograph collectors and photographers and others from NY. Now its their turn to learn what its like to have their lives put out for the public to see. In this movie people learn that success has its price, but when you learn how to handle it, it can be a sweet thing.
This film is a mild comedy, with superb dialogue. Actually, the dialogue is inventive, and shows a unique skill. It is also wonderfully cast, with each actor and actress filling his or her role perfectly. Not a cornball movie by a long shot. Sort of fits into the Woody Allen style of Comedy. From time to time it has some strong language, but not overtly, and adult situations.
