A dark and half-off-in-the-brain collection of some of the most BRILLIANT fiction I've experienced. Hand picked by essayist David Sedaris (who also edited the collection and provides the introduction), "Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules" is an incredible literary journey. Five Stars. Two Thumbs Up. Whatever your favorite cliché is, for saying this is a "MUST READ" - it can be applied to this fun, dark, lonely, happy mix of brilliance. I also highly recommend: "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim", "My Fractured Life", and "Assassination Vacation."
Call "Genevieve" a guilty pleasure - and a dicey, hot pleasure it is. Melodrama and elicit affairs abound and are told with lusty allure. An extremely good book that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can. I also recommend "Afterburn" (Zane), "My Fractured Life" (Rikki Lee Travolta), and "The Best Kept Secret" (Kimberla Lawson Roby).
"Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" is absolutely brilliant. It is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I highly recommend it. I also highly recommend: "Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules", "The Children's Corner", "Simon Lazarus", "Nightmares Echo" and "Running With Scissors".
The charming story of how love can bloom - sometimes in the most exciting ways. The big city star and the small town girl. Will he go to small town life and leave science and fame behind for her love? Will she turn her back on her family and leave the comforts of home for the overwhelming hustle and bustle of the city. Can love conquer all? Nicholas Sparks is simply a wonderful author. I also recommend "Three Weeks With My Brother", "The Notebook", "My Fractured Life", and "Sam's Letters to Jennifer."
"The Things They Carried" is a very unique and well executed book that bridges the worlds between fact and fiction. Not just a memoir and not just a novel, it is a collection of personal reflection, long-form fiction, and short story. The weave of different genres together is exceptionally done and very effective. It's been done before to various success in other genres, but this is the first I've experienced dealing with Vietnam. I also recommend "Going After Cacciato", "The Alchemist", "The DaVinci Code" and "My Fractured Life."
