very good!, Feb 3 2012
As usual, Mary Stanley captures the human spirit so well, understanding the nuances of human behaviour, and presenting it in a way that pulls the reader in.

great book!, Nov 18 2009
Caught my interest right from the start. I like that the writer was willing to enter the toment within the woman's head; not making it fun or pretty, but real. Yet the book was still infused with a sense of the spark of life prevailing. A book that could view the darkness within people without becoming dark and empty. In fact, it celebrated life, by going into the darkness.

Wonderful, as always!, Nov 16 2009
I have loved the For Better or for Worse comics since I was a teen. This was another wonderful compilation of stories (so much more than just a comic!) with everyone learning, growing up, adjusting to their new lives. A very good one!

Lots of feeling., July 17 2009
a good book. an easy read. light, but covering intense subject matter, so done in a way so as to touch my heart, without overwhelming me with the horror of life's atrocities.

good read!, July 17 2009
Good story, interesting characters. I often found myself in places i did not expect (with characters and ideas), which i liked, making it not so predictable. Well woven together, and filled with love. I enjoyed this book, and it kept my interest.

touching, realistic and raw, April 8 2009
THis book is very well written. The author takes us into the depths that the main character sinks into, giving us a true sense of what it is like, without actually depressing us! She also threads a wonderful sense of humour through it all, the sort of humour that makes it even more realistic, and that allows us to laugh at the very things that devastate us.

Helpful and thought expanding, April 8 2009
I have always wanted to have some form of guidance, within myself, to help me as I make my way through this complicated world, both within my thoughts and within the world around me. This book awakened in me the possibility that I really already had that guidance I needed, and that I could trust that, to help me lead the life that I would dream of living.

wonderful read!, Feb 17 2009
I have always loved Susanna Kearsley books; now I also love her Emma Cole books! As always, I was swept into her world, the characters becoming so real, making me feel I have found a home, like being in Granny's kitchen! Not that the book is all happy and light (all her books have some edge) but they leave me feeling buffetted. Very well written (which makes all the difference) and also well thought out! Excellent book! Rated a thriller, but I am not usually into thrillers. This has edge without being scary!
