.."Does it hurt"?..."Everytime..", Dec 24 2002
I gotta tell you I read Marvel Comics all thru the 60s-70s-80s and I always thought X-Men was the worst. So it stands to reason that they would make the best Marvel movie ( ..and that includes "Spider-Man")The opening origin of Magento in Nazi Germany is heart-breaking and the movie hooks you right there and never lets go. And while the whole cast is fine,Hugh Jackman was the find of the year...He is Wolverine! Tough,sad,self-involved yet willing to sacrifice himself for others ,he rises above the already good script to create a movie hero that ranks with Tyrone Powers's Zorro,Erroll Flynn's Robin Hood & Michael Keaton's Batman. He is dead on ( actully,Wolverine isn't this interesting in the comics..sorry ,fan-boys..)Top notch special effects and Patrick Stewart's Prof X make this a movie worth owning. I can't wait for the sequel...........

"Tuff Darts,Mary !", Jun 8 2002
Yes,thats how they named the band. Lou Grant turns to Mary Richards on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and exclaims"Tuff Darts ,Mary!" And its all downhill from there...seriously,this was a band straight outta the same CBGBs scene that gave us The Ramones,Blondie,Talking Heads etc. They lost their singer right off the bat ( Robert Gordon, first teaming with Guitar God Link Wray & then signing with RCA as an Elvis contender to the throne) Tuff Darts made one album for Sire in 1976 even got Ian Hunter to play on it..totally non-PC ,rude ,crude, you name it,but the record company got taken over by Warner bros. & they wanted nothing to do with these guys( or the Ramones for that matter but thats another story)Some really funny stuff, some cruel lyrics, but some good rocking ( certainly they were as good or better musicians than the other CBGB bands were in the beginning) John Desalvo(bass) was a great character, wrote some hysterical stuff""Your Love is Like Nuclear Waste, they should stamp contaminated across your face..." Great..John was a cool guy,got to know him when I worked at the late great Sire. I Know I'm ordering the Cd re-issue( & I know a couple of other people who will too..)I heard somewhere the Darts got back together..we can only hope... Yes,it's true ,we (my band ) even got to open up for them @ CBGB! BUY This Now before they disappear again !!

A legend that will last a lunchtime..., Nov 26 2001
Eric Idle & Neil Innes expand their SNL skit(Really they did it first on an LP released in about 1975 ). No Beatles sacred cow is spared. Not Brian Epstein , not Yoko , not Apple , Johns Bed-in , its all there. Look for inspired cameos by Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, George Harrison , Bill Murrary(the"K"),Gilda Radner and more. Includes Neil's great soundtrack of Beatles songs you never heard. I am The Walrus becomes "Piggy In The Middle" , Penny Lane becomes "Doubleback Alley" , Help! is "Ouch !".Even thought the songs are parodys , they hold up on their own. I would have bought them(Wait a minute..I DID ! ) Do yourself a favor , check out this film , you'll want to own it...

...I'm All Alone In The World....., Nov 26 2001
If this one don't get you , you're made of stone ,baby !! Without a doubt , THE BEST CHRISTMAS CARTOON , and that includes Charlie Brown . ( Uh-oh , my son won't like that ! ) Great Broadway-like score , the greatly-missed Jim Backus , Super cast , a real story(Dickens) with a loving screenplay make for an unforgettable Christmas event. This disappeared from broadcast TV for a few years , so they could air junk like Garfield & Ghostbusters Christmas !! Can you Imagine ?? Magoo is back, and he'll be on view in my house EVERY YEAR. Not the greatest DVD package , but better than the crummy VHS dupe I've watched the last couple of years. MAGOO , YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN !!

I'll Be Back....., Sep 9 2001
Not a great movie, but big time fun. I'm rating the movie not the DVD version. I love this movie because my son LOVED it when he was 5 and I had to watch it 500 times and yet it was one of his tapes I could always watch & enjoy.Dolph a big stiff when it comes to acting but acting wasn't as important as muscle for this role and he had plenty of that. Action packed & Frank Langella was great as Skelator(I used to have to watch the end tag ..I'll be back....) over & over again. My son would cry, "Play it again ,Daddy" & I'd rewind & play it one more time. I can't help be smile when its on. I will be buying the DVD when it comes out. Courtney Cox is in it (young Courtney) & Billy Barty is great as Gwildor. Some great henchman made for the movie, not the cartoon guys ,but cool anyway. Oh yeah Meg with the great eyes ( I forget her last name ,she was the org. Cagney on Cagney & Lacey )terriffic as Evil-Lyn( "The little worm has another key !!") Spotty review , I know but I'm doing this on memory alone. Its a great movie to watch with your kids. Turn 'em on to He-Man. Start another tradition.

Mighty Good to say the Least !!!!, Feb 25 2001
Without a doubt , one of the greatest adventure/fanasty films of all time. It imprinted on me at a very young (consumed 5 times a week on WOR ch.9 "Million Dollar Movie" in NYC )Watching it again , I was astounded at how fine a feature it is! Comedy, action, romance & a cowboy hero to boot . They really don't make 'em like this anymore. A favorite of most adults of my era when asked, some might consider it a children's film. It's a "family" film a grown-up can watch without making excuses to leave the room. "Don't worry ,Miss. Ain't no one gonna shoot Joe now." You betcha..............
