A FINELY TEXTURED MYSTERY NOVEL WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE, May 29 2012
"THE VANISHING TRACK" IS A FINELY TEXTURED MYSTERY NOVEL WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE This book is well written, skillfully plotted, filled with interesting characters, complex and layered. It kept my up long past my bedtime. It's a delight to read a book which speaks about the pain of homelessness, and is also a rip-roaring action adventure/mystery. I believe that mysteries can go way past the old confines of the mystery genre and be novels with ideas as well as social awareness. This book is a perfect example. A great read.

WONDERFUL FOR WORD LOVERS, May 8 2011
This is less a thesaurus than a wonderful compendium to less well-known words. Anybody who gets lost in a dictionary will enjoy this.

EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THIS, May 8 2011
This is an early collection of writings from the Women's Movement. Alas, so much of it is still relevant today. I saw a film on TV 'WHO WANTS TO BE A FEMINIST" and it was sad how some things have simply not improved for women in the last thirty years. Women are still making far less money than men in similar jobs. But there is good news, some issues have actually been dealt with. A very interesting read. I think young women would benefit from reading this, as so many of them think everything is now tidily in place. Not so. It's a marvelous book and highly recommended to anyone interested in the early history of the second wave of feminism. Sisterhood Is Powerful

WOMEN WRITE WONDERFUL SCIENCE FICTION, Sep 19 2010
This is a book of science fiction stories written by women. What I find different in these stories, compared to those written by men, is that they are more concerned with relationship than advanced gadgets, people rather than power. While the book is old, the stories are that much more poignant, as some of the "science fiction" has come to pass. They are very powerful, and I highly recommend them.

A BOOK THE SCIENTIFICALLY EXPLAINS WHY DIETS ARE NOT WORKING, Mar 17 2007
This is an excellent book, complete with scientific research and bibiolgraphies which explains why diets don't work. People who diet and cannot stay on them will understand that this happens, not because they have a character flaw, but because the body cares what you do with it. As you continue to diet, it gets harder and harder, and there is a biological reason for this. The book will help the overweight person understand that they are not flawed or crazy -- that dieting is not only difficult, but can be dangerous. I did my Master's thesis on this topic, and this is the most comprehensive book I found on this subject which explains what is happening.
