4.0 out of 5 stars So bad it's good., Jun 30 2004
Have always loved this one, since only having it in a murky, laser-disc-transfered edition. Not much to recommend this if you want quality, but if you're like me, enjoy the atrocious acting, extreme violence (love that motor-kill), and the cool 80's synth score (had a time finding that on c.d.!). Sort of a must for us Zombie-thriller lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother telling a Zombi, 'I'm your friend!", Jun 30 2004
This review is from: Burial Ground (DVD)
Very much a 'You want Zombies? We got your Zombies!!" kind of Spaghetti-splatterfest, "Burial Ground" succeeds where most of these thrillers fail, by eliminating most of the slower talky sections and giving us fans exactly what we want. From the first sequence to the last this unheralded trash-thriller keeps the viewer riveted with graphic depictions of Zombi violence and futile Human efforts to fight back. Character development is kept to a blessed minimum as this dark and mean-spirited bloodfest progresses to it's downbeat conclusion. Highly recommended and now readily available, pick this up if you like this stuff. Sure wish the Cosmic-synth soundtack was available(!)

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining and well-written Slasher-reference, Sep 13 2003
Loved this book! Lots of interesting factoids about many of the stand-out Slasher-thrillers from the 70s/80s, and plenty on the ones barely seen. Rockoff knows his stuff and shares it in what was for me a nostalgic, breezy read. As others have written, I would've preferred a longer, more extensive guide with a larger number of stills, (and color would've been nice), but all-in-all
a much needed addition to any Horror-geek's library. If you love drive-in classics like 'The Burning', 'Silent Night, Deadly Night', and 'Nightmare', pick this one up.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOIR AT IT'S DARKEST, Aug 8 2000
This review is from: Detour (DVD)
Come on, it doesn't get cooler than 'Detour'! No budget, no stars, and a wacked-out story of hellish bad luck. Tom Neal is what passes for our hero, a pianist en route to the coast to meet up with his girl when 'fate sticks out a foot to trip him'. It's really amazing to see how great this thing turned out considering how little it had going for it. Watch it at like 3 a.m., when everything is a little foggy, and you'll appreciate it even more. Then, watch 'D.O.A.', and 'He Walked By Night'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Friedkin's uneven epic, July 16 2000
This review is from: Sorcerer (Audio CD)
Some really cool film music here. I'm not a fan of T.D. but I'm a huge fan of electronic/synth film music and this is first-rate. Tracks like 'Creation' and 'Grind' perfectly compliment the film's images and mood, and wind up repeating in your brain long after the c.d. ends. If you like this type of score, pick up the soundtrack to another Friedkin thriller-'To Live and Die in L.A.' by Wang Chung.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE L.A. CONNECTION, July 13 2000
This review is from: To Live & Die in L.A. (Audio CD)
A terrific soundtrack to a sorely underrated film. Wang Chung's score perfectly compliments both the exhilarating action scenes, and the moody quiet ones. See this 80's thriller first, get hooked on the techno-ish score, and then snatch up the c.d. As others have written in their reviews, this album is great driving music, but it can certainly be enjoyed at home-especially the title track and the other 'radio' songs. The instrumentals are perfect for the car, hard-driving and fast. Hey, how about a widescreen d.v.d.? As I said, this is a forgotten genre classic. Terrific acting, sharp direction, and a killer score!
