4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect set, Dec 20 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This set brings back fond memories. Who can forget the Atari like soundtracks and turtleneck sweaters. This nice looking set is smaller than I thought it would be and everything is well designed and user friendly. The picture and sound are very good but no language or subtitle options are available. I did have some problems with season one where the discs would freeze and skip. I tried some older DVD's I have and they work perfect so it must be a manufacture problem. There is another reviewer on the Amazon U.S. site that also had issues. If it wasn't for the disc problems I would give this set five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good taste, Oct 13 2003
For those of you who didn't like Dead Alive (I'm one) then you should check out this one. The movie is very good considering the budget they had to work with. It also took four years to make and you can tell they had a blast. You get a extra disc with 25 minutes of footage about the film. It gives you a glimpse of the genius of Peter Jackson. The makeup and FX are better than more expensive movies. Just keep an open mind with the film and enjoy. It's a laugh riot.

4.0 out of 5 stars get your freak on!, Oct 13 2003
This review is from: Castle Freak - DVD (DVD)
I bought this from the bargain bin without ever seeing it. I was surprised how good it was for a direct to video release. This is a straight horror story without the wit of the re-animator series. It's about a family that inherits a castle with a surprise guest in the dungeon. It's too bad that the movie is full screen since it has such a beautiful transfer. Let's hope that it gets the widescreen treatment soon. There are a few extras on the disc which is more than I could have hoped for. The movie also has some nice special FX. The only problem with the film is the family has selective hearing since they can't hear everything going on in the castle. Pick this one up, you won't be sorry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, Oct 8 2003
MGM is not known for their great DVD releases but they did a good job with this one. I was not a big fan of the movie when it came out in the theatre. I thought I would give the directors cut a try. The movie is a bit cheesy and I didn't buy Scott as a grizzled detective. The uncut version adds to the story and character development but it's a tad long and I lost interest towards the end of the film. Picture quality is uneven switching between grainy and crystal clear through the whole movie. Sound is awesome though and the disc has some good extras. If you liked the original movie buy it, if you didn't then this version won't change your mind.

3.0 out of 5 stars One out of two is not bad, Oct 8 2003
This review is from: Waxworks 1 & 2 [Import] (DVD)
You can't beat two movies for the price of one. It's too bad that both movies are in full screen but I can't complain too much for the price. The first one is a pretty good movie with a mix of comedy and horror. The special effects are pretty good considering the time it was made. The second movie is a real star filled stinker. I can't believe it was written and directed by the same guy. Even Bruce (don't call me Ash) makes a cameo. I really felt sorry for him in a short embarrassing role. I don't think he even took credit on the back of the DVD case. One cool thing about the second film is the spoof on classic horror films including Dawn of the Dead. Overall picture and sound is just ok but nothing special. Worth the price even though the second movie is a stinker.

2.0 out of 5 stars Say Cheese!, Sep 15 2003
This review is from: Fear No Evil (DVD)
This is pure 80's cheese. I love 80's movies but I can't recommend this one. It's about a kid in highschool who is the anti-Christ and the arc-angels who try to stop him from coming to power. The acting is good and bad with some good special effects for its time. It takes almost 75 minutes to get to the payoff which is too long for a horror film. The dead rising from the graves was cool but not enough to save this film. If you enjoyed movies like Prince of Darkness, The Prophecy, The Omen and Exorcist then you may be disappointed with this one. Rent before you buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick Flick, Aug 28 2003
This review is from: Versus (Director's Cut) (DVD)
This is a pretty slick zombie flick. What it lacks in substance it makes up for in style. The actors perform well considering the plot is a little weak. It seemed like all they did was walk and talk in circles. These guys also never heard of keeping the guns of the people they bury. Besides those minor points this is a great movie full of frantic action and comedy. The DVD is crystal clear with nice 5.1 sound for Japanese with subtitles. There's not a whole lot of extras on the directors cut but it's still worth the purchase. This is a must own for Zombie fans.
