3.0 out of 5 stars A Turn Downhill, April 3 2002
This review is from: Now, Vol. 8 (Audio CD)
After the major successes of volumes 5, 6, and 7 (some of the series' best), you'd think that NOW 8 would be better than the above. Well, it's really not.

We'll start out with the good ideas. Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" was an obvious but good add for this, with a neat backbeat. Also, Christina Milian's "AM To PM" was an excellent idea, with cool lyrics, and, again, a good backbeat. Including the original "I'm Real" instead of the annoying and slow remix was a good idea, and "Someone To Call My Lover" is pretty good. Having the Aaliyah tribute (Rock The Boat being featured here, and some profits of the sales of the CD goes to an Aaliyah fund) was a very nice idea. Usher's "U Got It Bad" is a cool slow song with a good idea behind it, and was fairly new at the time of the release. "Pop" is pretty good too. In the good rock songs section, we have "Walk On" by U2 (nice addition), "Start The Commotion" by The Wiseguys (very catchy), and "I'm A Believer" by Smash Mouth (good remake of the classic hit). Also, props for a good cover.

There were a few things that went wrong, too. "Stutter" is TOO OLD to be here, and the Mystikal rap gets on my nerves. The inclusions of 2 non-major hits by Mandy Moore & Jessica Simpson -"Crush" and "A Little Bit", respectively, weren't excellent ideas and are kind of annoying, although I usually like both artists. Also, there are far too many rock songs! "Clint Eastwood" is just plain weird, and makes absoultely no sense whatsoever. (Is there a point to the song, anyway?) And "Me, Myself, And I" is bizarre, annoying, weird, and just bad! Jive Jones' voice is just whiny, and the lyrics sound like they were written in thirty seconds. If there's one song to skip, here it is. "Bad Day" and "Be Like That" are average, and I normally skip them, and the alternative rock songs ("Fat Lip" by Sum41, The Rock Show by Blink182) are loud and annoying, with bad lyrics and voices. "More Than That" was overplayed and is average.

Well, there you are. Too many bad rock selections really bring the album down, with a couple of bad pop songs as well. Really, I think this album deserves 2.5 stars, but I was nice and rounded up. Anyway, check out the other NOW albums, like 5, 6, 7 & 9. Those are great. Unless you really like rock songs with a handful of pop songs thrown in, you might want to try the other volumes of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a truly great Totally Hits!, Nov 30 2001
This review is from: Totally Hits 2001 (Audio CD)
Well, I must say that the past Totally Hits CDs have been worse than I could have hoped. But Totally Hits 2K1 is truly a terrific hits compilation. The songs on this CD are terrific! They have all charted. Although some of the songs are overplayed, they are still good. Here's my review of all the songs.

1. Hit 'Em Up Style: This song is really cool. It was overplayed for a while, but this is still a great song. This is a very creative song. One of the best on the CD! 5/5

2. Peaches & Cream: This song is OK. The music is kind of neat, but the lyrics, are, well, a little weird. Still OK. 3.5/5

3. Get Ur Freak On: I must say, I'm not what you would call a rap fan. During the summer, though, there were some rap songs that came out that attracted me. This would be one of them. It has a really catchy beat. I like it a lot. 4/5

4. Fallin' (Remix): Come on! The original version is WAY better. This version, with Busta Rhymes, is just crazy. His rapping is really annoying. Alicia Keys didn't deserve to have her name on this garbage. She is a great artist. The original would have gotten 5/5. 2/5

5. Bad Boy For Life: I didn't expect much out of this song, with me not liking rap, and I was right. This song has an odd backbeat, and the rapping is bad. 0/5

6. This Is Me (Remix): I'm not a remix fan, but this remix isn't too bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not even close to excellent, and I prefer the original, but as far as remixes go, it's OK. You wouldn't recognize that it's a remix of This Is Me, because it's very different. 2.5/5

7. U Remind Me: It took me a few listens for me to like this, but once it clicked, it became one of my favorite songs. The lyrics are really nice, and the beat is catchy. If you don't lke it at first, give it another try. You'll like it. 5/5

8. All Or Nothing: This is a pretty good ballad from O-Town. I like the piano at the beginning. This song really got them noticed. 4.5/5

9. Here's To The Night: This song, while good, was overplayed to the point where I began to get tired of it. The lyrics are nice. This song is OK. 3/5

10. Follow Me: Like Here's To The Night, this song got really overplayed. It's OK, but nothing special. However, I like the idea behind the song. 3.5/5

11. Every Other Time: I really didn't like LFO much until I heard this song. It's a cool song with neat lyrics, but can be sort of annoying at times. I can't say that this is a great song, but I can say that it's worth a listen. 4/5

12. When It's Over: The reviews of songs #9 and #10 sum this song up. I'm tired of it, but the lyrics are OK. 3/5

13. I Wanna Be Bad: Here's where the CD really begins to get cool. I know Willa's image isn't the best, but you've got to admit, this is a really catchy song! I love the backbeat, and the lyrics are pretty cool! 5/5

14. I Do!!: I absolutely love this song. It's very catchy, and will get you up and dancing. You can't help but sing to this unique song! This song is old, but it seems to get better every time I hear it! This is absolutely my favorite song on the CD. You'll love it! 5/5 (deserves more!)

15. So Fresh So Clean: This song is average. It gets annoying after a few listens, but it's OK. Nothing spectacluar. 2.5/5

16. What's Your Fantasy: Hate is a strong word. I'm sorry, but I hate both this song and Ludacris. It's gross, and really bizarre! The songwriters must have been desperate if they had to use lyrics like this. It's old too (that should be reason enough why it shouldn't be on this CD.) The only good thing about this song is that the beat is OK. Not good, but OK. Still, I think this is an awful song. 0/5

17. Fill Me In: This is a neat song! The beat is really cool, and the lyrics are really good. Craig David has a bright future
in America. An interesting song. 4.5/5

18. Thank You: This song is pretty old, and it was overplayed. I don't like the fact that it was on Eminem's song, either. However, it's actually a nice song. It's on the softer side, but it's still catchy, and sweet. 4/5

This a terrific CD with all sorts of great summer hits! You may also want Now 7 and 8, which also have lots of summer hits, from artists including Destiny's Child, Janet Jackson, and NSYNC who can't be on Totally Hits because of their record labels. Anyway, if you liked the hits you heard on the radio this summer, but don't want to buy all of the artists' CDs, this is the CD for you!

2.0 out of 5 stars ATC = Awful Terrible Crud!, April 26 2001
This review is from: Planet Pop (Audio CD)
This is such an awful CD! The only reason it merited 2 stars is because of the excellent song Around The World, the only listenable song on here. Come to think of it, Arounf The World was the only reason I tried this CD out. And you know something? It was NOTHING like it. My Heart Beats Like A Drum is basically Around The World with more stupid lyrics and they replaced "La la la" with "Dum dum dum", which is what this CD is if you would add a B at the end. And worst of all...these people cannot sing! Their voices sound computerized. The music is also terrible, and the lyrics, gosh, the lyrics, I can sum them up in one of the song titles on this piece of trash, "Why Oh Why?" That song is very bad. I can't stand the fact that they actually managed to get a record contract because I can sing better than them, let alone write better lyrics. My only suggestion to this band is to NEVER, EVER make another album again! And to readers of this, don't EVER make the mistake of buying this trash.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT AN AWFUL CD!!!!!!, April 20 2001
This review is from: Revelation (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the worst purchases I've ever made. I can barely describe how terrible this CD is. 3/4 of the songs are cheesy love ballads which I can't stand in the least. There is only one listenable song on this whole CD (I can't even call it an album) and that would be My Everything. Yes, I just expressed how much I despise love ballads, but this has that special touch that makes it good. Everything else here is utter trash. Dizzy makes me want to throw up (and it's not just because of the song title), Give Me Just One Night is NOT Spanish at all, and Yesterday's Letter just sucks. I highly advise you don't consider buying this album, because all of the songs suck and I wouldn't consider listening to them even if someone was threatening to demolish my boombox and CD case if I didn't. I don't say that often, which only proves how bad these songs are.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good...but with a few mistakes., Feb 23 2001
The 2001 Grammy Nominees CD was very good. I liked most of the songs. Some of the best were Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" because of the cool lyrics and great background music, U2's "Beautiful Day" because I loved the lyrics and the music was also pretty good, and *NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" because I loved the beat and music both a lot. I also liked The Corrs' "Breathless" and Macy Gray's "I Try", and Backstreet Boys "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" a lot. However, there were a few songs that I would have rather done without, such as Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady", who picked him for this CD? (or for a nomination, anyway?) I wasn't a big fan of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now", it was a little too slow for me and I didn't particularly like the lyrics either, and I didn't like Barenaked Ladies' "Pinch Me", I don't believe there is a real point to that song. I don't neccesarily like Beck's song either. But there is some really interesting stuff here, like Paul Simon and Steely Dan. Overall, this is a good CD. I recommend you buy it now.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good CD!, Jan 18 2001
This review is from: No Strings Attached (Audio CD)
*NSYNC's second album No Strings Attached is very good! I liked a lot of the songs. My review is a track listing with a sentence or two about the song and a grade. Just so you know, I'm a male, so I don't like these guys because they're "hot".

1) Bye Bye Bye - This was the first single off this album, and it doesn't disappoint! It has cool music and lyrics. 95%

2) It's Gonna Be Me - This song is also pretty good. The beat is cool and I like the lyrics, although you get sick of this. 91%

3) Space Cowboy - This is a really good song! It was done with Left-Eye from the group TLC. The sound FX are wild and the lyrics are cool. The rap is also very cool! 94%

4) Just Got Paid - No, no, no! Why is *NSYNC singing this song? It has weird lyrics and a crazy beat. Not the better side of *NSYNC! 59%

5) It Makes Me Ill - This is absolutely excellent!! The singer Kandi wrote it and she did terrific with it! The lyrics are great and so is the music! Best song on the album! 98%

6) This I Promise You - This is a beautiful song! I really like the lyrics! The music is also very nice. 96%

7) No Strings Attached - I guess this is an OK song. The lyrics are pretty good, although the music isn't terrific. 78%

8) Digital Get Down - Oh, please!! What were you thinking, JC?? This is horrible! Honestly, if the lyrics are stupid, the beat is stupid, and the music is stupid, then you should know there is something wrong!!! 0%

9) Bringin' Da Noise - What can I say? Another flop from JC! This is annoying! The lyrics are crazy, and the music is just, nothing special. Not quite as bad as Digital Get Down, though. 49%

10) That's When I'll Stop Loving You - This song is beautiful! The lyrics are very nice. Very good! 92%

11) I'll Be Good For You - This is OK, I guess. The lyrics are nothing special, however the music is great! 87%

12) I Thought She Knew - This is a very nice song. The lyrics are really good! 90%

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, although not perfect..., Jan 11 2001
This review is from: Stuart Little (Widescreen) (DVD)
Stuart Little was a very good movie! I liked it a lot! It was one of the best movies of 1999. However, it wasn't perfect.

The actors played the characters very well. They had great lines for the most part and there were not a lot of characters put in there just to be in there, but they could have done without all those cats in the last scene and put in just Monty and Smoky.

The plots were also done very well, even though there are many background plots, they don't confuse you like many other movies. They were also well put together, you could understand all that was going on right then.

However, as I said before, this movie isn't perfect. I think they could have done without the cuss words if this was supposed to be a kids movie, and some scenes seem like they were added in just to add time, such as the scene where Stuart gets stuck in the washer.

Other than that, this is a nice kids movie which I recommend anyone to go see. It was very good!

Aaron Carter cannot sing. I don't know why he is even in the music business. His album is horrible. Aaron's Party (Come Get It) has horrible lyrics and cheesy music, I Want Candy is not catchy in the least, and Bounce has a terrible beat and awful lyrics. Why is he acting like a rapper?? Why is he singing about girls?? He is 12 years old, not 20! What he is singing is way above his age level. If he wants to sing this stuff, wait 10 years. Which brings us to the most important part, the music itself. All of these songs are horrible in every way possible, horrible beats, horrible lyrics, and horrible music. Also, his voice has nowhere near matured, even if he wasn't singing what he is, he should still wait until he is at least 20. I have one question: Is this supposed to qualify as music?? I did not like this album, and I don't recommend it. Thank you for reading my review. I hope it helped!!

Finally, a CD with all the great #1 hits from one of the most legendary bands in history, The Beatles!! There can't be many other bands with 27 #1 hits, and these weren't at #1 for no reason! These are all great songs! I liked this album because the songs all have great music, cool lyrics and fun beats. Some of the best songs on the album are Penny Lane, She Loves You, Hello-Goodbye, Something, Hey Jude and the list goes on and on and on. This is one of the best albums of the year, and I recommend it to absolutely everybody who wants all of The Beatles extraordinary #1 hits! You won't be disappointed.
