Cold Blooded Business
Cold Blooded Business
by Dana Stabenow
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
41 used & new from CDN$ 0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars Cold-Blooded Business Smokes, Oct. 16 2001
COLD-BLOODED BUSINESS smokes. Dana Stabenow is a terrific mystery writer, and this novel is a smoking good mystery. Kate Shugak, a strong native Alaskan superwoman, is in prime form here. She goes undercover as an oilfield roustabout to investigate drug smuggling. Stabenow describes her frigid Alaskan setting with perfection. I love her characters--the good ones as well as the evil ones. Even the ones in-between. COLD-BLOODED BUSINESS is an awesome book.

This review is from: Firestorm (Mass Market Paperback)
FIRESTORM smokes. Anna Pigeon is a great mystery character, one of my favorites. I especially enjoyed this Nevada Barr novel. Anna is dispatched to the scene of a massive forest fire where she is trapped by a shifting fireline along with a group of firefighters. One of the firefighters is a killer, and suspense builds throughout the story. FIRESTORM is an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innkeeping Smokes, Oct. 11 2001
INNKEEPING WITH MURDER smokes. This mystery is the debut novel in the Lighthouse Inn Mystery series by Tim Myers. Myers is a writer to watch as this series unfolds. INNKEEPING takes place at an inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Myers nailed the setting perfectly. I enjoyed his Alex Winston character as well as his supporting cast. INNKEEPING is a cozy mystery, and Myers is an important new voice in this field.

The Underground Man: A Lew Archer Novel
The Underground Man: A Lew Archer Novel
by Ross Macdonald
Edition: Paperback
Price: CDN$ 13.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Where There's Smoke There's Fire, Oct. 11 2001
THE UNDERGROUND MAN is my favorite Ross MacDonald novel. Lew Archer reaches his highest stage of development in this novel as he investigates a multigenerational mystery amid the southern California fire season. In my humble opinion, there has never been a finer mystery author, and THE UNDERGROUND MAN is MacDonald's finest book.

Barbarians At The Gate: The Fall of R.J.R. Nabisco
by Bryan Burrough
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Barbarians Smokes, Oct. 11 2001
BARBARIANS AT THE GATES smokes. It is a magnificent journalistic study of corporate America during the Age of Reagan.
Burrough and Helyar report on the efforts of RJR/Nabisco management to take their company private and how their actions led to one of the largest leveraged buyouts in American history. Hilarious story. Funny, but sadly true.
