Mother Love!, Dec 8 2010
This film is a typical Roger Corman extravaganza. I was recently amazed to see it listed on the Turner Classic Movies channel program (admittedly the TCM "Underground") and watched it out of interest to see how it had acquired its Classic label - to my astonishment I very quickly found out that this was well justified. Big Bad Mama is pure mindless fun for adults as the hardpressed depression era Mother struggles to raise her daughters in a way which will enable them to have a better lifestyle; unfortunately the rather uninhibited use of firearms by Mother's party prevents it from being quite ideal entertainment for young viewers.
The ambiguous ending to Big Bad Mama 1 was quite clever. Did Roger Corman really appreciate that a sequel might be called for one day? It took a very long time to come and I applaud Angie Dickinson for still being game to undertake her part. But I suspect that she got a great deal of fun out of making these films - something that always rubs off on the ultimate vewer.
Thank you Angie!
