4.0 out of 5 stars A Smorgasbord of Shapely Quadriceps and Gorgeous, Muscled Buttocks!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Legs (Paperback)
Once again Dave Naz focuses on a special aspect of his models' ensemble - this time it's their lower limbs - designed by the forces of evolution for bipedal locomotion (and the admiration of potential mating partners). Naz treats us here to a visual smorgasbord of supple calves, shapely quadriceps, and gorgeous, muscled buttocks. His work is still possessed of a strong fetish influence and he makes almost as much use of panties, stockings, and hosiery as he did in his previous book, Panties. But one look at the cover image and the material within and one will know that the focus here is just as promised. The girls stretch and posture and spread their long, lanky, beautiful legs for our endless delight.

Erotic Art Photography
Erotic Art Photography

5.0 out of 5 stars An Encyclopedia of Vintate Erotica!!!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Erotic Art Photography (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books of vintage erotica ever published! Collector and dealer, Alexandre Dupouy, has been a lifelong student of archeology and photography. And he's melded these two interests into a single-minded and scholarly pursuit of amassing the erotic works of all the early photography masters. His archive is an astonishing omnibus of rare and unique erotic photos and this new book is a breathtaking glimpse into that almost forgotten world. Erotic Art Photography is packed from cover to cover with full-page images showcasing the work, most of which is unique to this book, of numerous photographers including Pierre Louÿs, Guglielmo Plüschow, Vincenzo Galdi, Constan, Henri Oltramare, José-Maria Canellas, François Bertin, André Dignimont, Grundworth, Michel Simon, Albert Wyndham, Yva Richard, and dozens of others.

It's important to stress that this is not just another presentation of the same images featured in so many other books of vintage erotica - most are rare pieces never before published in book form. It's a spectacular ride. And the production quality is almost up to par with the immaculate contents. It's a huge, superbly crafted book, 12x11" in size, and 256 pages.

The history and insights provided by Dupouy in the preface as well as in each of the six sections of the book is not only an erudite and informative study, it is also an obvious conduit for Dupouy's love for the medium. These photos are a precious treasure to him and he shares not only his knowledge here, but his love and enthusiasm as well.

Shaven Angels 2
Shaven Angels 2
by Peter Lorenz
Edition: Hardcover
10 used & new from CDN$ 94.14

4.0 out of 5 stars Art-Inspired Sexy Glamour, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Shaven Angels 2 (Hardcover)
This is the second volume in the Shaven Angels series and like its sister books, it is a brazen and arousing body of ultra-original portrait photography. As Monika Evers notes in the forward, Peter Lorenz is interested in contrasts, in pairs of opposites like hard and tender, melancholy and cheerful, old and young. The exciting tension he creates here is generated in large part by the locations at which he shoots. All are located around his hometown of Erfurt, which like much of what was once East Germany, is a scene of upheaval where modernity is colliding with the dilapidation of the past. Lorenz purposely places his girls in backgrounds that are relics from GDR era. Industrial buildings that have yet to be renovated or tore down, old planes that are now forever grounded. His models stand as smooth, statuesque, perfect beings - as angels among the unkempt ruins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Festive Nude Athletics!!!, Dec 16 2008
This is the second book in the now infamous series from Ralf Vulis documenting the lovely machinations of naked girls engaged in a wide variety of sporting activities. This time we see the girls running on the basketball court, boxing, wrestling, playing soccer on the beach, cycling, leaping, stretching, running, and soooo much more. And the most that we find them wearing is their tennis shoes. Vulis also makes use of several new girls in this outing and they all light up the page just as they did in the original. This book is a guaranteed good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fun!!!, Dec 16 2008
Cult photographer Ralf Vulis makes wishes come true for anyone who ever dreamt of watching young, vibrant girls playing a variety of sports ' without their team uniforms. Tennis, swimming, weight lifting, track and field are just a few of the disciplines in which the girls engage themselves. Created more in the spirit of fun then hardcore athleticism, the girls are a feast for the eyes as they struggle and strain, leap and compete. This is not filled with muscular, overly athletic women, although all the participants are in lovely shape, so it is meant more for the connoisseur of beauty than Spartan virtues. Expertly shot in black & white, the superb quality of the publication itself along with the witty, handsome content make this a worthy purchase for art collectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dream-like Erotica from an Amazing Artist!!!, Dec 16 2008
Santerineross' photographs are reality-bending composites born from the synthesis of his creative energy and dream interpretations. They are dark, foreboding, and at first glance .. fear inducing. Yet he's not what one would call a fetish photographer, nor is he a pornographic image maker seeking to tantalize. His work is a fiendish alchemy of symbolism, archetype, and erotica that when wrought together gives rise to grander sense of itself. It's like how one can get lost in the medieval nightmare of a Hieronymus Bosch painting, or they can revel in its artistic splendor and genius. The same can be said of John Santerineross as he weaves the malcontent elements of his imagination into a provocative and beautiful union. This is a large-format book (32x24cm) that is a wholly beautiful a production.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Compelling Vision of Artistic Erotica!!!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Guthier No 3 (Hardcover)
This is Norbert Guthier's third publication, and like the previous two, this book is packed full with very powerful imagery, much of it explicitly sexual. His previous books were superb and represented a wholly original vision of erotic art photography, but this one surpasses them in ways that even Guthier may not be able to explain. His composition is more forceful, his vision more compelling, his artistry more mature. Never before has human intimacy been so beautifully documented. And yes - most of the work is powerfully sexual - but categorizing it as "porn" would be like calling Sartre's Being and Nothingness, a light read. Norbert Guthier has reached new levels of artistic genius here.

This hardcover book of 152 pages printed is on high quality paper in black & white duotone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Masterpiece!!!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Premiere Nudes (Hardcover)
This book is masterpiece! It might even be one of the most important books on nude photography ever published - it's that good. First of all, it's a huge and scholarly look at the life and work of photographer Albert Arthur Allen. The first forty or so pages are all text describing the life and times of the photographer. The information is fascinating and will prove quite insightful to anyone interested in the 1920's and 1930's, especially from an artistic and photographic perspective. And then there are the pictures ... Wow! The hardcover book itself is 10x10 and contains 256 pages of absolutely beautiful, pure, pristine, nude-oriented erotica. Full frontal nudity in all its glory is what made Allen a marked man by many of the "morality police" as well as the legal authorities at the time. And it's what really sets him apart from most of his contemporaries like Imogene Cunningham and Edward Weston, who were considered genuine and legitimate members of San Francisco's art community.

Allen's work could certainly be seen as a reflection of the "high-flying spirit of the Roaring Twenties" and seemed to appeal less to the art collectors of the time than it did to gentlemen who in later times would be fancying Playboy and Penthouse. This is not meant to impugn the artistic merit of Allen's work at all, just the opposite. Allen was just a lot more daring than his peers and this generated an electrifying element of excitement to his photographs, something can still be felt to this day. Initially, a lot of his models were fellow naturists, but towards the end of the 20's he started to recruit more from newspaper advertisements, targeting women who had come to California to chase dreams of stardom. Allen's young women were "clearly crossing the line of acceptable behavior for a proper woman - and they new it." That's exactly what makes this work so exciting, so deliciously naughty. Do whatever you have to do to get your hands on this book - it will not disappoint.

Edition: Hardcover
16 used & new from CDN$ 31.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Nudes from 3 German Photographers, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Solange Ich Liebe (Hardcover)
A superb collection of fine art photographs of celebrating the nude form in natural surroundings. All images are contributed by one of three photographers: Matthias Reuss, Wibke Reimann, and Rolas Simulis. Over eighty-four pages we are presented with a glorious feast for the eyes for this is truly a wonderful body of work. Natural beauty, lush and exciting settings, sacred femininity, and the sensuality of form are all powerful components. Masterfully printed and distributed in large hardcover this book is a delight for the eyes. The short texts are in German only but this in no way comprises the quality of this production for non German speakers.

Modern Amazons
Modern Amazons
by Bill Dobbins
Edition: Hardcover
12 used & new from CDN$ 45.17

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Photography - Inspiring Subject Matter!!!, Dec 16 2008
This review is from: Modern Amazons (Hardcover)
Modern Amazons is the highly anticipated follow-up to Bill Dobbin's first major publication devoted to the muscular female form - The Women. This new work, featuring the new women of bodybuilding, is sure to please Dobbins' devoted fans. Like its predecessor, Modern Amazons explores its beautiful subject matter with a level of respect bordering on awe, and the splendor, indeed the majesty of these women, is staggering. They are if anything, more impressive, their mass and muscularity more pronounced. And though Dobbins tinkers with a bit of cheesecake and glamour, his real strength is the more artistic approach where the beauty of the subject's body is the centerpiece of the portrait. These are the real gems, and there are enough of these in its 192 pages to make this a truly heroic book.
