Slave to Sensation
Slave to Sensation
by Nalini Singh
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: CDN$ 9.49

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to a new world, Aug 11 2010
Slave to Sensation is my first Singh novel. It is an interesting world she has built with the various Changeling factions, the Humans and the Psy. Lucas Hunter is an amazing alpha male and Sascha, a damaged Psy, is more than strong enough for him. I enjoyed watching her morph into what she was meant to be - which wasn't damaged at all. Slave to Sensation is pretty steamy and has some mating similarities to Leigh's Breed books. This book has some sci-fi, some romance as well as some suspense. I did find there were some parts of the story that were left unexplained but I am hopeful that they were left that way on purpose to be explained later in the series in one of the other books. With that in mind I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next book in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars This rates a solid 2.5, Aug 11 2010
This review is from: Tease Me (Paperback)
Tease Me like Full Exposure suffers from too much sex. The story is overwhelmed by the amount of overly descriptive sex between the H/H. The suspense portions of the stories have real potential but I found myself wading through the erotic scenes wishing the author had put as much work into the rest of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars What can I say I am a sucker for the low brow humor!, Aug 9 2010
Julie James seems to be coming into her own. I am a long time fan of Shelly Laurenston and Julie James reminds me a bit of her in her latest legal romance installment.
"Peeky cheeks" was classic low brow humor that I have to say had me laughing so hard I was in tears. JD and Payton's office one upmanship was classic comedy at it's best. The verbal sparring was great. Like two magnets they just needed a flip to go from repelling to attracting.
Just like the other legal romances the secondary characters were likable and provided extra depth and insight into the main characters. They also provided extra comic relief when necessary. This book had more heat than some of her previous ones but it still had that sweetness that I have come to expect from James heroes.
The plot was compelling and considering lawyers pretty believable. The gossiping secretaries added extra entertainment and laughs. Overall this was a really fun book and if you are looking for a fun way to while away the afternoon, try Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of laughter with the romance, Aug 7 2010
Julie James manages to write some of the funniest sassiest women I have read in a long time. Taylor was a super character. She lives the mantra of start out the way you mean to continue. She doesn't let Jason slide on anything just because he's a big movie star. Her friends from Chicago are a real treat and they add some extra humour to the story. The legal storyline is just enough to provide a distraction and move the story along but not so much that it overwhelms the romantic angle of the story . Some of Taylor and Jason's antics and banter were laugh out loud funny and the build up and anticipation of the first kiss is killer. I found the part of the story with the competing actor did not really finish itself the way I expected and I found it a bit flat. James didn't really do anything with it. It just added fluff, that in my opinion, the book didn't need. I did find it harder than usual to buy into the whole two movie stars vying for a Chicago lawyer - but I tried to suspend my reality and just flow with it. The story has lots of anticipation but James is light on delivering the real heat in the bedroom. This is one of those classic love/hate situations that just never get old for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a single for me, Aug 7 2010
In this installment of the Richmond Rogues we get to meet Kason and Dayne. I enjoyed the meet cute that these characters have and the way Angell brings them together. Dayne with her tin can parked on Kason's land was quite a fun image. I was sorry to see the story between Revelle and Rhaden get so little time in the overall book. I wish they had their own book I found them as interesting as Kason and Dayne and sometimes more so. As with Curveball I found this story was also missing the anticipation that makes the romance great. The characters again were good but did not have enough depth. Dayne and Kason both had great back stories but for whatever reason I just didn't get emotionally invested in them. There was a lot about the team and the game itself which is fine but that is not why I am reading the book. I want the heat and the romance to carry me away on a little bit of fantasy for an afternoon and I just didn't get carried away. Still an OK book just not awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK, Aug 7 2010
Curveball is the first Kate Angell I have read so I really did not know what to expect going into it. I am new to the whole sport romance genre. Curveball is written around the "Bat Pack" which is three veteran heavy hitters on the Richmond Rogues baseball team. Let me start by saying there is nothing wrong with this book but I just found it average. The characters were good but could have been even better. The men were sexy the women sassy and while I didn't set it down and think I won't bother finishing it Curveball just didn't capture me like I expected. Psycho, Chaser and Romeo are all bluff and bluster until they meet The Designer, The Reporter and for Chaser seeing his best friend, a female, as more than a buddy. It had all the elements that I like but it was just missing that elusive bit of anticipation that takes a romance from OK to awesome for me.

Edition: Paperback
Price: CDN$ 12.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool twist on the classic fairytale, Aug 2 2010
This is a respin of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, by Yardley. The concept is pretty cool and the execution with this book is good. The erotic component is warm but not smoking. This is a light read that will keep you entertained. I would also recommend the first book Crave but you might want to skip Ravish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovin' the lawman, Aug 2 2010
This review is from: Nauti Deceptions (Paperback)
Zeke, the totally HOT Sheriff, can bring his handcuffs to my bed anytime. While not the best in the series this was still a good wind up to the FL story line. Or I assume it is anyways. This one had a less confusing final showdown...I have found in the other books of this series that there is no real indications of the villain till the last moment and I am left scratching my head thinking "what the hell!?". I would recommend reading this series in order, it will make more sense that way as the characters recur through the series. I was glad to not see one instance of the word "conflaguration" in this book unlike the last few she has done. There was still some repetition in the book but it was also not as prevalent as the last few of her books. I am interested to know which character is going in the Nauti and Wild book with Jaci Burton.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of short stories, Aug 2 2010
This review is from: Laced with Desire (Paperback)
This is the second collection of short stories by these talented ladies to be released together. This installment has consistently good stories. Not quite as good as the last installment but pretty close. I have to say Joey Hill's latest Knights of the Boardroom installment surprised me with it's depth and insight into the D/s relationship and I really enjoyed it. Hot love scenes and hot men, totally worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first introduction to great erotic romance authors, Aug 2 2010
This review is from: Unlaced (Paperback)
This was the first book of erotic romance stories I read by these authors. I have since gone on to read almost all the works in existence by these women. Jaci Burton is consistently good, as is Jasmine Haynes. Joey Hill runs more to the D/s relationship but is still a good read if that is your thing. Not all of her work is that way but most of it. I have not read much of Denise Rossetti but after picking up Laced with Desire, the follow up to this book I will be. These are passionate, romantic stories that are short enough to read in a sitting and they might just hook you on some great authors.
