The product is heavy and rough enough that it stays put on the dashboard even with hard acceleration or cornering. Its advantages over the more traditional dashboard mount (a round disk glued to the dashboard) are a) when you leave the car, you simply tuck it away under the seat or in the trunk, leaving no evidence that a GPS is ever used in the car; otherwise, and this happens, a would-be thief might break into the car, looking for the unit; and b) leaving a glued-to-the-dashboard disk in a rental car or prying it off could result in a claim against you that you disfigured/damaged the car.
