This is exactly the type of book I adore! Chock full of visual inspiration, wonderful projects/techniques to inspire and add to ones repertoire, great tips and antedotes from other artists and an all around tone that says "you can be an artist!" there will something for everyone in this beautiful book. I am extremely happy about my purchase! Thank you Pam for creating such a gem!

***it should be noted that my book arrived a bit damaged due to the emense weight of all the other books I ordered , the corner spine was destroyed, a bit of a bummer, I didn't bother exchanging it though...

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, Feb 16 2011
I enjoy this book for the insights it provides via quotes, ideas and other people's personal experiences. I especially love how each project is broken into two different ways of working; independently and group based. I look forward to incorporating these exercises into my art practice. I would have given this book 5 stars if it included some in color examples of the artwork created by the people who participated. Worth Buying!

This review is from: Sweet Hands (Paperback)
This book far exceeded my expectations. I love the way the book is written and divided. I love the mingling of personal stories with recipes throughout the book. I have found the recipes to be true to the culture of TnT and am very delighted by the outcomes of what I have tried thus far! Exceptional book to add to my Caribbean Cookbook Collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Much Needed Companion, Nov 13 2009
This is the type of book that I love. Chock full of inspirational quotes, artwork, and art tutorials it truly enables you to recreate this style of art. Most importantly this book combines all of the above with an inside look into the life and creative path of a fellow artist and the struggles that entails. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Seasoned artists may be quick to pasha these types of books but I believe that every artist is entitled to their style and the freedom to have their voice heard. Having read a small number of reviews (as in 3 vs 93 raving ones) of this book on Amazon.com that deem Kelly Rae's work only worthy of greeting cards and mugs I say and even if that were true, and what?! Are we going to discount all the Artist's that work for Hallmark, Greetings of America, those that freelance for magazines and Ad companies just because their style may or may not be that of hyper realism or resemble a Rembrandt? Do we then discount all the artist's that do illustrative work, do we discount comic book artists, graffiti artists??? Where is the line drawn? This Condescending attitude is not beneficial to the growth of the art community nor to we as a society and only triumphs in the dampening of creative dreams and the trampling of others creative "wings". In conclusion if you appreciate art, especially mixed media this book will appeal to you. If you love to read about other artists and their journey into a successful creative life this book is for you. If you are beginner who is scared and does not know where to start or feels a calling to art but is a afraid of what that means this book is for you. And lastly if you are a crafty person who loves to dabble in new things or is seeking to broaden your artistic horizons with a love for books that feature step by step tutorials this book offers that and more. Enjoy.
