1.0 out of 5 stars Dubious theology about the Cross!!, Jun 30 2003
This review is from: The Essential Piece (Paperback)
I guess I'll have to go against the grain, here, because I cannot in good conscience recommend this book to anyone, Christian, or otherwise. Although Pastor Williams speaks very well on some topics, it gets blown away by some of his other remarks. And the fact that he's been preaching this particular message for 20 years is disturbing, and I dread for the folks who sit under his teaching.

The back of the book states that "the cross made Jesus a Christian." How untrue can a statement like that be. Jesus Christ was a Hebrew, and anyone who reads the first chapter of Matthew will come to understand that. He was not a Christian, nor did the cross make him one. He chose to lay his own life down, because he was the Son of God, and He chose to take it up again. The same book states that this book is not for those "easily offended," although I think that Timothy Williams wants to offend Christians with his quirky theology, even if you can call it that.

He borders on the legalistic, and I mean the wrong use of the commands of God. He may be right to suggest that we have become a nation that worships the bible, and all we need is the cross in our lives, and not be taken in by all kinds of fancy ideas. I'm with him on that, but check this out:

He writes: "The Lord has had me, as a Pastor, cancel worship many times...Maybe each person needs to stay home and spend some extra time alone with God." I wonder if he is familiar with the biblical exhortation of "not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the habit of many."

Then there are these next statements:

-"Jesus called his mother an ungodly woman. He told a whole crowd of people that His Mom was oin sin and couldn't understand the will of God."
-"If you have hated your father and mother in the Lord, and God does not send you to their funerals, you will not only obey, but also approve of His decision...for God longs to divide families. You must hate your parents because Jesus is 'distressed' until He can begin to divide families."
-"Those flowers you sent to Mom on Mother's Day may have been sin and may have entrapped your mother further in her sin. A gift to our fathers on their birthday may not be God's will."
-"Stop socializing...wasting time...doing family things...stop Christmas dinners, family reunions...a family reunion is a forest of dry timber ready for the match."
-"Hating your wife is for your own good. A husband must hate his desire to be with his wife."
-"No matter where they (wives) were - in the store, at the in-laws, at home, they are address their husbands as 'Master.' I no longer have to schedule quality family time."
-"Hate your children, brothers, and sisters."

Then he goes on to promote his "Hating Seminars," and I have to ask him where he gets his theology, from the pit of Hell? I'm sorry, Timothy Williams, but you are on the deep end, and no matter how much you believe you are right, you are on the twisted end of some strange perverted cross. And don't you dare call it the Cross of Christ!!

I cannot recommend this book, and it's not because I'm not "with Christ," or am a hundred different reasons Williams gives for not "accepting" his teaching, as if it were the oracles of God. Maybe he should open his mind a little more, and pray a little more, and love a little more, because Christ did preach denial of self, but also to love one another. "By this shall all men know Me, if you have love towards one another," Christ said. That didn't make Him a Christian. Christ was the living God, the walking Spirit of Truth. Timothy Williams better beware, himself, of "listening to deceiving spirits," because the same Bible he preaches from all states that God hates "those who cause disharmony in the body of Christ."

So...don't buy this book, but if you do, read it with extreme caution. It is a dangerous theology, one which promotes division in the name of Christ and justifies the same. This is not apostolic teaching whatsoever. What it is, you can find out if you're willing to put your money down and purchase it. Beware the traditions of men!!!

This is the kind of teachings which cults have grown out of. Don't be misled. Be like the Bereans and search out the Scriptures and not take this guy's words for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Stallion Returns!!!, Jun 24 2003
This review is from: Black Stallion Returns (VHS Tape)
Four years after the first film, l983 would usher in this sequel to the The Black Stallion, and Kelly Reno would once again be the one who rescues the Arabian stallion from other thrilling captivities. There are more horses, exotic locations, and thrilling plots here than meets the eye, and the story gets so much better. But of course, it is "Cass-ole" who steals the show - the beautiful black Arabian stallion.

A might fine sequel to a great original film. Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Film!!, Jun 24 2003
This review is from: Black Stallion [Import] (VHS Tape)
Filmed in 1979, this movie persists and survives the test of time. It is the classic story of a boy's love for his horse, a magnificent Arabian stallion. They are cast adrift together following a shipwreck, and the boy (played by Kelly Reno) and the wild stallion share a chapter of survival on a desolate island. This is one of the best parts of the film.

After their resuce, Alec and the stallion join forces with an ex-trainer who is irascible (Mickey Rooney), and soon they all find thesmelves in a match race with the greatest thoroughbred of the day. This is more than a child's story, and it's a stunning and exciting movie experience. I'd give it a ten if I could.!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Knock Film!!!, Jun 24 2003

This has to one of the all time favorites in the "Annie" series, and it's based on the smash hit Broadway musical. This plucky, red-haired girl, who dreams of a life outside her dingy orphanage, Annie (played by Aileen Quinn), plans several escapes but is always foiled by the gin-soaked ruler of the orphanage.

Miss Hannigan (played wonderfully and wickedly by Carol Burnett), is the arch-nemesis of this young girl and her other friends in the orphanage.

Filled with an ensemble cast worth a grand memory, we have Albert Finney (Daddy Warbucks), Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters as the villainous duo, and Edward Hermann as FDR.

A grand entertaining movie!! It's wonderful, and the music is superb!!! A real uplifting experience!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Tale!!, Jun 24 2003

This animated featured, directed by Don Bluth, is an unforgettable treat for the entire family. It follows the adventures of "Fievel," a little boy mouse who journeys from Russia to America with his family, late in the 19th century, to seek a new life free of cat persecution. (Some analogies are present here.) During the storm boat trip, Fievel is lost at sea, and he finally washes up ashore in New York Harbor, where he vows to find his family.

With the voices of Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Nehemiah Persoff, and Christopher Plummer, this story will warm your heart. A highly recommended movie!!!

Judy Garland comes through again in this marvelous end of an era movie about a family who lives for the St. Louis Fair, and Margaret O'Brien is splendidly cast as the precocious little sister who upsets an entire household with her antics.

"The Trolley Song," "Meet Me in St. Louis," and the ensemble songs and cast makes this a marvelous edition to anyone who likes to collect classic musicals. Enthralling and enchanting!

So many have come before this review, that it's almost impossible to add anything to this, but this I will say - if you are in search of truly good entertainment, without all the trappings of our "modern film," this is a family place to land. If you've read the Frank L. Baum book, you won't be disappointed in this one. With Judy Garland in the lead (who, by the way was second choice - Shirley Temple was the first choice), and Frank Morgan as the Wizard, plus the ensemble cast of Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Ray Bolger, and others, this ranks among the best.

It is interesting, in a sort of historical way, because the studio back in 1939 didn't think that this movie was going to go anywhere -- and they planned on a "flop." My, has history proved them wrong.

A great film for the entire family, with many of the classic elements which make for good entertainment, such as mystery, humor, edge of your seat suspense, and great music and dancing. Then there are the Munchkins and the Wicket Witch of the West. A fantasy tale come true!!! But, you know, there's no place like home, and there's not many movies like this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just You Wait, Henry Higgins....!, May 18 2003
This review is from: My Fair Lady 64 (VHS Tape)
Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison SHINE in this film adaptation of the favorite Broadway hit, and although the music can stand on its own as an entertainment piece, to see the story unfold before one's eyes is truly remarkable.

The transformation of Eliza Doolittle is phenomenal, and the starchy Rex Harrison as the only one in the world who can make a lady out of her, based on a bet of course, is an entertaining plot to watch. Surely other reviews may have really unwound this story for those who haven't yet seen it, but mind you, it's a tour-de-force of a story.

"Rain in Spain," "Just You Wait, Henry Higgins," "With a Little Bit of Luck," "Get Me to the Church on Time," and other songs from the film stick with you until the end, and we see Mr. Higgins actually fall in love in the end.

Marvelous entertainment!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tradition ---- TRADITION!!!, May 18 2003
This review is from: Fiddler on the Roof (VHS Tape)
A marvelous film, as is the soundtrack, and Topol, who stars in the lead, gives a fabulous portrayal of Teyve, the patriarch who witnesses his life come to an abrupt halt in the small town of Anatevka.

The music takes you through this tale of laughter and pathos, and tragedy, and in a very timeless way, it is sort of a history of the Jewish folks who have been persecuted throughout the centuries because they have been willing to pay the price for their own traditions and way of life, because it has been at odds with the rest of the world. You can still see it being played out today in many parts of the world.

But...this is a wonderful and entertaining story, with a brilliant ensemble cast, and it will not only make you chuckle, but cry as well. The songs, from "If I were a Rich Man," to "To Life," to "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," to "Far from the Home I Love," are priceless and memorable, as is the story. It's a wonderful addition to a film library, and highly recommended!!!
