(May contain spoilers) I don't think this has ever happened to be while reading but I'm not even one chapter in and I'm already crying. It's a very intense and emotional start with Amy and her parents getting frozen in preparation for the coming mission. It was haunting, it was painful for Amy to watch them and finally having to make the tough decision herself. I certainly wasn't expecting something like this right at the start of the story...way to get a reader hooked, I'm reading and I'm crying...just WOW. With the dual narration you get to learn about the ship and the world from both Amy and Elder. For Amy everything she sees and learns is new and not natural but to Elder who grew up on the ship everything to him is just the way its always been. While I did like that there were two perspectives to read from I thought some of the chapters were too short and could have been longer. Especially when something exciting was happening, the chapter would end and would switch to the other character. When you have a tagline says that the ship is "fueled by lies" they're not lying. Some I predicted from the beginning like when a certain character was introduced I knew right off the bat that there's something not right with him but there's one secret that was revealed right at the end that had my mind reeling. There's so many secrets and lies that come out and I have a feeling that there'll be more in the second book. This book is so much more that just "science fiction" so even if you're not a fan I would still recommend this to you...who knows it just might change your mind.

Being the big Pride and Prejudice fan that I am (I have 3 different adaptations on DVD and used to read a lot of P&P fan fiction online)...I jumped at the chance to read Elizabeth Eulberg's modern adaptation of one of my all time favourite books. Lizzie Bennett, a scholarship student at Longbourn Academy doesn't seem to fit it. Her fellow classmates all look down at her because of her status. Her only friends at school are her best friend and roommate, Jane, and fellow scholarship student Charlotte. I loved Lizzie. She's determined, doesn't give up and a hard worker. She makes do with what she has and has worked hard to get where she is...something that the rich students at Longbourn will never achieve. Darcy is brooding, sweet and I find always very polite and the perfect gentlemen. The misunderstanding between the two stems from her pride and his prejudice. As their feeling for each other grow they deny them at first but later realize that they have both misjudged the other. It usually takes me 3-4 days to read a book but I finished this in less than a day. There were some differences but Prom and Prejudice stayed true to the original story and even though I know the story and what's going to happen, Eulberg tweaked it enough and added in enough humour to make this a fresh, fun take on such a classic story. I think it would be a great book for both middle grade and teen readers to enjoy and hopefully they might decide to read the original story as well.

(May Contain Spoilers) Desires of the Dead starts a couple months after the events of The Body Finder. Everything is back to normal in Violets life and her and Jay are officially a couple. But while on a shopping trip in Seattle, Violet is drawn to the body of a dead boy and ends up alerting the police where eventually the FBI gets involved. I love Violet and Jay. Jay is a very sweet, attentive, caring and protective boyfriend to Violet. Their relationship has evolved--they're boyfriend and girlfriend now but will always be each other's best friends. Though not everything is perfect in the relationship. Violet used to confide in Jay but is now more secretive about the use of her abilities which also puts a strain on the relationship. New characters are introduced including two new students who Jay quickly befriends and two FBI consultants hoping to figure out what Violet`s secret is. One of them is Rafe who seems to understand the struggle Violet is facing regarding her abilities. We don't know anything about Rafe except that he helps the FBI but he does get Violet to open up to him so I'm hoping he'll be back and get a bigger role in Bk. 3. The mystery of who did it wasn't as dark or as dangerous as the one in the first book but it sill kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I think I have it figured out that author throws it in a new direction that has me scrambling. Fans of The Body Finder will once again be pulled into the new mystery that surrounds Violet and her blooming relationship with Jay. If you haven't read The Body Finder then read it and after that pick up the sequel, Desires of the Dead cause its amazing too.

So far I've read 5 of the HON books and if I remember correctly The Fledgling Handbook is mentioned several times in the series. So, if you've ever wanted to know what sort of information is in it to help new fledglings well wait no more cause here it is. It has all the information new fledglings need to know. Explains about getting Marked, the transformation, details on the different rituals vampyre lore and history. It has stories about some of the more notable vampyres throughout history and is filled with pictures and illustrations. It also has a couple pages with questions and blanks for fledglings to fill out and look back on in later years. Overall, definitely something for die hard House of Night fans to get for their collection. The copy I read was from the library and am still not sure whether I'm willing to fork out money to get a copy myself.

(May contain spoilers) Cryer's Cross is a small farming town in Montana where everyone knows everyone and when I say small I mean its really small at just over 200 citizens. The small town is shaken when one of their own goes missing. First Tiffany a classmate of Kendall's goes missing then months later Kendall's best friend, Nico has suddenly disappeared too. Kendall has OCD and is something that not many people know about. The two disappearances rattles the town but is especially hard for Kendall to deal with. She's lost her best friend--someone she's been with everyday since childhood. Not only does it disrupt her daily routine but she can't stop thinking about it and imagining what happened to the two of them. In between the chapters there are short paragraphs titled "WE". At first I was so confused because what was in the paragraphs was creepy but it didn't make any sense. So then halfway through the book when Kendall finds the writing on the desk it was then that everything clicked and went into place for me. I went back and reread the excerpts and it all made sense. It gave me goose bumps when I thought about it and that I didn't figure it out sooner. This was my first time reading anything by Lisa McMann and the way she writes in the third person using short sentences with not too many words that is straight forward and gets the point across. The story was full of mystery, suspense and most of all was unpredictable. I knew Nico and Tiffany were missing but what really happened to them. Were they chained up somewhere and still alive (best case scenario) or were they both dead. This was one seat of your pants page turner that had me reading and trying to figure it out right till the very end.

(May contain spoilers) Clara is a sixteen year old teen who is also a quarter angel on her mother's side. Every angel has a certain purpose that they must fulfill on Earth. Because of Clara's purpose, her mother packs up the family and moves them to Wyoming. There she meets Christian who is the boy Clara sees in her visions and the one she must save. Clara's visions all involve Christian so to her and her mother he's her destiny and the one she should be trying to get close to. But Christian already has someone he loves and Clara eventually realizes that. Apart from Christian there's also another boy in the picture. Tucker is a classmate and brother of one of her friends. There wasn't an immediate attraction between the two. They bickered and fought and Clara really didn't like him. Eventually they became friends, learned more about one another, had fun together and then the romantic feelings came into play. It was refreshing to see their relationship grow and unlike so many YA romances where the characters meet and suddenly they're both falling for each other. There were lots of other memorable characters too and a couple of which I suspect have secrets of their own. Clara's mother who always holds back when telling Clara more about the angels. Her brother Jeremy who is aloof and a bit distant but when needed will come to her sister's aid. Finally there's Angela, one of Clara's new friends in Wyoming who is a half angel herself and provides a wealth of information to Clara. The ending was frustrating and leaves the reader hanging. There's a lot that's still a mystery about the angels, their purpose and what it all means. I'm hoping the second book will provide some answers and its one I can't wait to learn more about.

(May contain spoilers) I was so torn while read Tempestuous--not because it wasn't good, it was great and then some but because its always sad to see the end of a series. Remember Darklight the second book in the series? Well that ended with one doozy of a cliff-hanger ending so of course I wanted to see what Sonny's reaction would be and how Kelley will deal with the big lie she told. Tempestuous picks up right where Darklight left off so if you're planning to read the series then reading them back to back would be a good choice. I read the other two in the series almost a year ago and I didn't go back and reread them when I started Tempestuous so there were some little things like certain characters that I had trouble recalling. Other than that had no problems with the main story and plotlines. This book really showed Sonny's vulnerable side. After hearing Kelley's proclamation he leaves in a daze. With nowhere to go he coincidently stumbles upon a underground faerie sanctuary for the Lost Fae. More and more Kelley is coming into her own. She's learning how to use her faerie powers and she's one tough cookie. In her mind she's doing all she can to protect Sonny. I did feel bad for Fennry's after everything that happened and was revealed in Tempestuous. His feeling were genuine and I do like him a lot but just not as much as I liked Sonny. Like its two predecessors Tempestuous was action packed with romance, intrigue, and a couple unexpected twists. Its one of the few book series that I've actually finished reading so if you haven't read it yet don't let this series pass you by.

(May contain spoilers) Cara is sixteen, a outcast at school with no close friends. At the beginning of the book her childhood best friend and the only true friend she`s ever had, she comes to live with Cara. She`s ecstatic to have her back. But when two popular girls turn up dead Cara suspects that Zoe might be somehow involved. The relationship is unconventional to be sure and not your average BFF friendship. Cara is shy with low self esteem. She's weak and she easily goes through life unnoticed. Zoe is the complete opposite of Cara. She's very forward, daring and bold. Cara can be herself in front of Zoe and being around her gives Cara a confidence boost, something that she lacks. There's definitely something not right with Zoe as she gets weirder and weirder as the story progressed. I never knew what was going on inside that head of hers. She has mood swings...one minute she's happy and the next she's upset and you never know what she might do next. Out of the two of them, Cara was the weaker one so I didn't know how she would handle Zoe. Would Cara confront Zoe...would there be a big fallout....I just didn't know. I figured out who the murderer was halfway through the book...it was pretty obvious but what wasn't obvious was who Zoe was. Needless to say ending came as a big shocker and looking back now there were some signs that hinted at it. Choker is the first debut novel I've read this year and if its any indication of the line-up of debut novels to come then I for one am excited.

(May contain spoilers) Since the death of her mother Hailey has tried to be the perfect daughter for her father. She gets good grades, doesn't get into trouble and does everything by the rules. What she's most looking forward to is spending the last summer with her father before she leaves for college. But when he suddenly cancels their plans all her pent up frustration is unleashed as she takes out her anger on some school property. The one time Hailey does something bad and she gets caught. Overnight she ends up losing her boyfriend, the trust of her best friend and shunned by peers who used to look up to her. Yet she still wont reveal who else was with her that night. Hailey means well--because she's trying to protect someone she ends up taking the blame for what happened and deals with the consequences. One of her punishments is to work with the janitorial crew where she meets Drew. I would describe Hailey as a "in the box" kind of person and Drew draws her out. He shows her his world and it opens her eyes. I was initially wary of Kelsie. I thought she might be the backstabbing best friend and move in to take Hailey`s place once she lost her popularity. She seems to be hiding something from Hailey and not telling the whole truth but in the end it all worked out the best for both of them. Eileen Cook's books are always fun and entertaining and this one was no exception. It'll have you laughing, smiling and rooting for Hailey right till the very end.

What a great conclusion to Chloe's story (for now). I read the first two books last year so its been a while but it was so easy to get back into the series, the world and the characters. I really saw the character growth in this book. There's really no one that Chloe and her friends can trust as it seems like every adult they meet is plotting against them or conspiring with the Edison Group so they have to rely on each other all the more. Chloe is still conflicted over her feelings towards Simon and Derek but she finally sorts out her feelings and her decision was one that had me jumping up and down because I was rooting for this pairing all along. And Tori who at the beginning of the series treated Chloe so badly is now friends with her. The group doesn't trust her at first but she proves herself to be resourceful and on their side. This was another exciting and thrilling book that kept me on the edge of my seat. It didn't have the wrapped up ending I was hoping for but I know Chloe and the gang will make an appearance in future books so I'm happy with it.
