5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning photographs and fascinating insights into the insect world, April 20 2009
This large and very attractive book does an incredible job of capturing the amazing diversity of the insect world through photos and text. The photos are often quite beautiful and offer new perspectives on these tiny creatures that share our planet. Another very useful feature are the identification keys at the back of the book. If you find an insect and don't know what it is, the keys will guide you through the process of figuring out what you have. If you have any interest in insects, this book will provide you with many happy hours of exploration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real, practical help for freelance writers, March 1 2009
I've been a full-time freelance writer for more than 20 years, and this is one of the best "how-to" books I've come across in that time. The concept is brilliant: ask editors to share some query letters that really hit the mark for them, then ask the writers of those letters to explain the process they followed in putting them together. I've bought three copies of this book now, because every time I loan my copy to a writing friend, it doesn't come back. I'm chaining this copy to my desk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making pies can be "as easy as pie.", Aug. 14 2005
I've enjoyed the author's previous cookbooks, but this is definitely one of the best. His pie crust directions -the part most cooks find trickiest - are very clear and really work. I especially like the food processor instructions which enable you to produce an excellent pie crust in minutes. The recipes are delicious and include a wonderful variety. Today we're enjoying the Peanut Butter Cheesecake Pie with a Sour Cream-Brown Sugar topping, and it is every bit as delicious as it sounds. We've also had several of the fruit pies, and they were all very tasty. If you love pies, you'll want this book.
