5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a workout and diet guide, Feb 20 2003
Bill has a remarkable ability to make it sound it like he speaking (or writing) directly to you. This book is so information rich, motivational yet extremely easy to read as well being personal. Virtually everyone reading this book will feel that personal touch from the author.
The philosophy does indeed work and not merely because of the dietary guidlines and workout schedules. The life philiosphy here can and will change your life if you take it to heart.
There are some minor gripes from people about the Myoplex references, but Bill trusts in and believes in his product, and there is not a thing wrong with that. I myself followed the program without even following totally the dietary rules. I followed the Fit for Life guidlines of fruit in the morning and food combining while avoiding processed foods like Myoplex or MetRx. I felt that my progress was better because of it, but of the combining and diets of Fit for Life is not for you, the Myoplex is a great supplement to Bills eating recommendations.

This is a simple book yet so powerful and deep at the same time.

I recommend you buy this book for anyone you care about that needs to change their life. It will work and the pictures are real.

4.0 out of 5 stars An updated Black Sunday, Nov 2 2002
An updated Black Sunday, but a movie with nowhere near the depth of Black Sunday.
This film certainly had its moments and the suspense is well directed.
This is a cautionery tale but the viewer is left to draw his own conclusions, and the real message here may be too subtle for the casual viewer.
The moral is essentially about the dangers of handing unlimited power to fallible human beings as well as the danger of meddling in other peoples affairs. These may not be the intended morals but they come through pretty loud and clear anyway.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, Nov 2 2002
Typical John Woo film. Minimum story; maximum blood.
As in Face Off, Woo sets up personal conflicts, moral abiguities, conflicts of duty, friendship, loyalty and emotion. Then develops none of them.

This could have been a masterpiece on par with Private Ryan or Thin Red Line, but ended up being a WWII version of 3000 Miles to Graceland.

Yes war is about senseless violence and death, but this movie was billed as being a story about the Navaho Code Talkers.

I was hoping for a film that was actually about the Navaho Code-talkers. Unfortunately this was not it. Yes it did feature a code-talker or two here and there but it was more about explosions, blood and flying bodies. Not as some reviewers claim war violence but the worst of Hollywood's stylized over choreographed nonsense.

Woo kept forgetting that the mnovie was supposedly about the Code talkers, then would suddenly remember and throw in a few seconds of a Navaho yelling into a radio, then back to the gore and explosions.

The explosions were not even realistic. I am sorry, but hand grenades do not produce 10 foot fireballs, Thompsons do not fire at 1800 rounds per minutes and .30 carbines do not throw their victims back through the air when the round hits.

As in "Face Off", John Woo took an intriguing psychological concept, dropped the concept in midstream filled the rest in with unrealistic and excessive violence.

I found this movie very tiresome and had I seen it in the theatre I would have most likely have walked out midway through the picture. With the DVD it took me 4 sittings to finally bull my way through it.

If you want a proper war movie get or see "We Were Soldiers"

Don't waste your money on this mess of a nonsensical movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, Aug 26 2002
This is war, this is what war is.
Buy this movie and watch it several times to cath the nuances and details the crew obviously sweated over.
Mel Gibson has elevated himself in this movie. He is sincere and true to life in a way most Hollywood actors could not even understand much less emulate.
All Americans should see this movie and try to understand the message here, of which there are several incuding the futility and utter waste war is, from both sides.
This movie moved me emotionally and I know it will have just as powerful and effect on the 20th viewing as it did on the first.

It is a good prescription for ignorance.
Saying that the US is the least heavily taxed developed nation is like saying "hey I only slap my wife, my nieghbor beats his wife."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Prisoner fans, Jun 4 2002
I myself did not think the transfer was all that bad. In fact I think it looks good on my 61" Sony and Sony DVD.
I started watching the Prisoner when it first released in the US as summer replacement. I have been hooked ever since.
Yes it is about a spy or "Secret Agent" who resigns in obvious disgust and is kidnapped, taken to a very mysterious, secret and very secure place known as "The Village". It is also about his attempts at escape and other intrigues. Leading edge spy stuff for its time.
To appreciate The Prisoner you must go beneath the surface at what The Prisoner really means. The series is full of symbolism and social commentary while The Vilage is referred to as "The model for a new world order" by one of the constantly changing #2's.
The series blew everyones mind in the late 60's when it aired. I knew many people who could not get it and never watched more than one or two episodes. The die-hard fans hung in there and got our own minds blown in "Fall Out" the final episode.
After years and careful noticeof the world and politics and social upheavals The Prisoner now makes sense immediately to people who are just now seeing it for the first time - like my 22 year old daughter. she had it figured out (correctly) by the 3rd DVD.
Anyway, this is an important series and TV's first true masterpiece. It is a work or art, it is a social commentary and it is very prophetic and more relevant than ever.
I love this set. I enjoyed the bonus tracks. To those who think the bonus tracks are lacking, remember this is a TV show produced in 1967. This is a veritable gold mine of bonus material.
After seeing all 17 episodes again in order, sharing them with my daughter had brought me to even new revelations about the series and the genius behind them.
My daughter thinks the special effects and action sequences are not realistic - BUT be reminded again, this is a TV series from 1967.
Could The Prisoner be remade and updated? Perhaps, but I would have a fear of losing the message. This series was created in an era of relative innocence when most people trusted the government. This is one of the things thsat made the series so remarkable.
Here we are 37 years after production and we are STILL discussing it;s significance. While I might agree with my daughter that modern production values and updated special effects woulc be a good spice to the series I would fear destroying the essence and the uniqueness.
Mc Goohan had a degree of freedom when producing the series. Any newer production would most likely be polluted by attempts to make it more mass-market acceptable.
The Prisoner is a sensitive work and a work of genius. Buy the DVD set and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for experienced machanics, Jan 13 2002
This was written more for a professioanl mechanic than a weekender like myself. Many of the instructions are vague and omit critical intermediate steps. On the other hand other areas seem to be written for the weekendeer, referring some repairs to a "qualified profesional".

I much prefer the Haynes manuals. They are based on a complete teardown and describe some of the less intuitive procedures in better detail.

The wiring diagrams included in the book are however worth the price of the book alone. I recommend this book, but you might want to supplement it with other more detailed manuals.
Anyway, if you own a Z3 you will likely use this a lot. The Z3's reliability leaves much to be desired and you will need all the help you can get.

3.0 out of 5 stars Depressing and ultimately pointless, Jan 13 2002
I wish I could say that I liked this book. Harrison is obviously a talented writer and his characterizations are excellent. This story however was unsatisfying and ultimately pointless, not to mention depressing. The violence was pointless and did not seem to add tot he plot such as it was. The sex scenes seemed overly graphic for this type of book - it is supposed to be a thriller.
I enjoyed many of the character developments as well as the basic premise, but the book seemed to ramble too long before getting to the critical story elements.
The ending was a total downer and blew away any expectations I had. The author madfe such a strong point about Charlies toughness and ability to survive, yet......
Sorry I cannot recommend this book. I found myself wishing this was a DVD and had an "alternate ending" in the bonus material.
