Really apart of what you've seen, July 10 2004
This is a must-see. And it's not a easy way to define this film. This is for everyone, no matter of your sex, your age, your attitude to fairy tales, to cartoons or to music. "Shrek" has it to surprise and to enjoy each and everyone of your family or even none of your relatives. It is easy to see with every kind of company. It's sweet, it's bitter. It's plenty of laugh and plenty of love. Music is really a big part of the film and every tune is perfect. I don't know of anybody who dislike this film. Extremely enjoyable.

Absolute horror, suspense and thriller masterpiece, Jun 16 2004
Three years after this, Alejandro Amenábar is about to complete his new film "Mar Adentro" ("Deep into the Sea"). In fact, he took another three years to make "The Others" and of course I expect three years are a well deserved wait. Yes, "The Others" has it. Horror scenes make your heart speed up, the sense of the story makes you thrill until the end, direction, acting and screenplay (and even music, composed by himself) make this one of the best movies of the recently started century. What can I say of the end? It's the thing you'll never expect. It's the thing you should never say to anybody. Actually, Mr. Rodrigo Rato, former Spanish Minister of Economy and now President of the World Monetary Fund, revealed it in a session of the Congress in Spain. What a shame! But when you can count with the "lady in fashion" to play the character of Grace, the succes is more than guaranteed. Everybody says Nicole Kidman has nothing to demonstrate in a drama movie. Her acting is marvellous, as well as Fionulla Flanagan, as the main servant of the house. The contrast of clear and dark scenes is of a great quality. I should have even preferred this movie to be film in black and white as those are its main colours. It could be even more terrifying. There's too much to see: rent it, buy it or even borrow it. And don't miss any scene!

A good film with an extraordinary rhythm, Jun 14 2004
More than 130 minutes for a film which has a lot of action and rhythm. Both main actors make a great performance. For Tom Hanks (Carl Hanratty) is not news, as all latest roles have been outstanding, but for Leonardo Di Caprio (Frank Abagnale, or, Frank Conners), I think this has been his best acting ever. Besides the story (based in a real character, but full of fictionary situations) is very dynamic. Sometimes, the continuous race between the policeman and the thief seems to be somewhat ridiculous, but I think this is the spirit of the movie. To catch such a smooth criminal is really disgusting and frustrating and you need to have real perseverance to get what you want. It's like what a hacker is used to do nowadays. Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen have got short but very important and memorable appearances. Amy Adams, who takes part as Frank's girlfriend, is on the other side, very greasy and clumsy (sorry about that). It's not the thing you should expect from Steven Spielberg who had lost some credit after "I.A.", but it's really recommended.

Jamiroquai is a non-stop quality factory, Jun 11 2004
Knowing and owning all five album of Jamiroquai I've decided to review their fifth album. I will have given all of them four or five stars but I prefer make a few comments on this, especially taking in mind that after ten years Jamiroquai has been the indisputable top funk group. The starting is really delicious: "Feel so Good" and "Little L" can be among their ten top songs ever. The groove is fantastic and the sound is astonishing, especially in the first. Another of my favourites are "Love Foolosophy" and "Stop, Don't Panic". And with "Black Crow" Jay Kay shows all his intensity in a beautiful ballad. I think it's always difficult to set out five pike records in your career and in our times it's almost impossible, as artists come and go very quickly. I expect sixth Jamiroquai album will be as good as the other five.

Malkovich IS real Ripley, Jun 7 2004
I think Malkovich captures more accurately the character created by Patricia Highsmith than Damon does. In "Ripley's Game" we see a more perverse and tactician criminal, very near of what Highsmith describes in her novels. I also am grateful to see this film brought to the end of the 20th Century, plenty of mobile phones, terrific Alfa Romeo cars and modern costume design. The story per se doesn't have significant changes and the film is perfectly set out in another time. In "Talented Mr. Ripley" the story goes back to the 50's or 60's, that is, the time Ms. Highsmith wrote the Ripley's series. The rest of characters are really interesting. Dougray Scott has an ascending role and not only has he got more presence in the film as it goes on, but this presence is more convincing little by little. Good job. Another good thing is that you don't have to see the first part to enjoy completely this "Ripley's Game". Very recommendable.

At least a comedy that is not only to laugh, Jun 7 2004
The fifth star of this movie is awarded to the DVD itself. It's really enjoyable not only the making off, but the cut scenes and the off-commentaries of the directors. It is interesting to see the real job of editing and making off this excellent film. I like it very much the way Hugh Grant (Will) and the boy Nicholas Hoult (Marcus) tell the story as it goes for both of them. It seems that complicity of both characters is totally represented by both actors. I have seen Hugh Grant in a huge number of romantic comedies and I didn't expect much of him but THIS IS DIFFERENT. As he says in the extra material he represents 100% a British, rich, handsome, useless bachelor. He is even more irresistible for children than for women. Some acting parts are beautifully absurd: when Will plays guitar helping Marcus to sing "Killing Me Softly", when he goes to the SPAT to meet all divorced women into therapy, when Marcus tries to conquer the older girl by singing his brand-new rap CD... And taking in mind the work of the directors, I think now I am even able to go and watch "American Pie".

Cinderella version "n", Jun 7 2004
This film doesn't have anything new. It's not even funny, so it cannot be a romantic comedy. I think it is sort of a melodrama. Lopez makes it clear that is not a good actress (full of blinks, gasps and tics), and Fiennes is dull and annoying (yes: a real politician). Besides it is annoyingly full of stereotypes (see the legion of maids of the hotel, see the politician's team, see the awful scene in the jewellery). The story of Cinderella is re-visited for the n-th time and the final is really predictable. Oh, where is true love? There are no strange situations, no close encounters, no blinking gazes, no love tears and no love joy. Very superficial. I really prefer Jennifer Lopez being JLo. See whatta mean?

Doesn't resist comparison with "Sixth Sense", Jun 7 2004
This is a quite good film which I am not sure of giving it 3 or 4 stars. It's quite simple. The film itself is good (so it deserves 4 stars) but the comparison with "Sixth Sense" is irresistible, and then "Unbreakable" clearly looses the game. I will try to make my review not taking into account the "prequel"... "Unbreakable" has good some great moments, mainly in the first part of the film. The scene into the train with Willis (David Dunn) talking to the girl close to him is memorable, as some dialogs with his wife (almost ex-wife). The discovering of Willis' great powers with the aid of Jackson's (Elijah Price) knowledge of the world of comics is somewhat confusing, but the way we start to "know things" is correct. However, the scene of the son pointing his father with a gun is absolutely insignificant and out of context. The real good thing is to see Willis and Jackson far from "what-they-used-to-do" in late 80's. I was given advice of the absurdity of the end, but I don't think it's absurd, naïve or even stupid. In fact, it's even logical but the way the information is given in the last few minutes is overwhelming, reduces its credibility. All in all, it's a film that I recommend you, even more if you haven't seen "Sixth Sense"...

New age by definition, May 31 2004
There is no better way to describe what New Age is than listening to this outstanding recording. Not only is the pure essence of New Age: I'm talking about real quality, inspiration and soul. For those who think this music is over-programmed, Ciani has that latin sense that makes her music pure, lively, fresh and with the touch of innocence of her first recordings. I will mention Tuscany as one of my favourite songs of all music I've ever heard: melancholic is the word. Neverland together with Hotel Luna are the best way to introduce to this artist and to this genre which had no equal in late 80's and first 90's.

Nicholson and Keaton should have worked together before, May 30 2004
It's funny to see some actors don't feel the passing of time. Besides, even if they hadn't worked before, they seem to have a great complicity even in their 60's. Excuse for talking about age of people. They make laugh and they show tenderness, too. Of course Diane Keaton has a really suitable role but Nicholson is still a bad-tempered, irresistible, old man as in many of his late films. Nevertheless, the story is really fine and amusable. It's not another romantic comedy but a soap box opera! The only thing is: was it necessary to show both actors almost nude? It's a marvellous scene, but sure they asked for a great amount of money for doing that.
