1.0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of 3 great actresses' talent !, Dec 26 2002
This review is from: NEW Heroic Trio (DVD) (DVD)
I'm a big fan of Chinese action movies, but this is by far the worst. most amateurish film I've seen this year. What are Muchelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung doing in this disaster of a superheroin movie? Ridiculous plot, cheap production values, weak effects. The incoherent direction does not help either. And please don't tell me it's supposed to be campy. It's not, just plain bad. Avoid at all costs!

2.0 out of 5 stars A missed opportunity: Great idea, incoherent direction, May 28 2002
As many of the other reviewers have suggested, "Audition" had the making of a great horror classic. However, I found the direction to be completely incoherent, the production values very poor and the graphic violence completely gratuitous. There was very liitle buildup to the final showdown and, without giving anything away, Asami's motivation was never very convincing. Perhaps the incoherence was intended to unnerve the viewer? Anyway, this screams for a remake in the hands of a much more capable director with a bigger budget.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very poor quality transfer to DVD, not even worth the $5 !, Dec 11 2001
This review is from: Fistful of Lead (DVD)
I'm a big fan of spaghetti westerns, especially all the ones that recently came out on DVD. However, I have to say this is by far the shoddiest transfer to DVD that I've seen. It looks like they worked off a poor tape copy instead of the original master, or maybe the master was damaged. A real disappointment. The movie itself is OK, but it's not in the same league as a "Keoma" or a "Texas Adios". Avoid at all cost !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Anti-Western !, Sep 10 2001
This is easily one of the best and most disturbing spaghetti westerns ever made. At the risk of giving away the ending, the movie basically turns all the western cliches on their head. The gorgeously shot snowy landscape, the lush but unobtrusive Morricone score, Klaus Kinski in the role of his life and the unusual casting of Jean Louis Trintignant in the lead role all combine to give the audience a truly original experience. The quality of the transfer to DVD is also excellent and the inclusion of the alternate ending is very informative. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Best Spaghetti Westerns Ever !, July 29 2001
This review is from: Keoma (Widescreen) (DVD)
This one has it all: Franco Nero in his most haunting role (aside from Django), extremely creative camera work, clever editing, Shakespearean themes, Peckinpah-style violence, above average dialogue and, of course, spectacular scenery. The only blemish is the very annoying musical Greek chorus that passes for a soundtrack. A must-own DVD, right up there with the Leone trilogy.

3.0 out of 5 stars An American Style Spaghetti Western !, July 27 2001
This review is from: "Texas, Addio (Widescreen)" (DVD)
First, a word of warning: if you think Texas Adios is another of those ultra-violent, stylized spaghetti westerns, you may be disappointed. On the other hand, if you like your westerns on the melodramatic side, you'll enjoy this movie. In fact, this one has a more "classic" feel than say "Django", as Franco Nero himself pointed out in an interview included on the DVD. Away from the always dependable Nero, the movie lacks a good, charismatic villain a la Gian Maria Volonte and the acting level is undistinguished. I did enjoy watching Nero in the most stylish leather trench coat this side of the Rio Grande !

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winning performance from France's Artist Of The Year, Jun 1 1999
This review is from: Toujours Moi (Audio CD)
This is not quite up to the vey high standard set by Axelle's "A Tatons" from 1996, but it's still a very satisfying CD. The best track is the first: "Faire Des Mamours", which sports a killer funky groove. There is even an instrumental jazz number from her backing band. Recommended.
