Before watching this movie I heard that a guy named Ridley Scott directed this movie. I usually don't care who a director is for a movie but I thought it was interesting that this guy was also the director for flicks like Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. When I heard this I thought, man this should be a good movie. I has sorta right. Matchstick Man tells a good storyline but the story doesn't hold my interest all the way through the movie and of course a plot twist at the end sorta ruined it. Nicholas Cage is Roy who is a con-artist that has many personal problems. He can't stand outdoors and can't stand unorganized and dirty rooms as he makes people take off their shoes before entering his house. He constantly has trouble keeping with the pills that deal with his personal problems. One day Roy speaks with a doctor about getting another prescription of pills. His original doctor was on vacation so he saw a substitute. As he was talking with his personal life he discovers that he has a daughter named Angela with his ex-girlfriend Heather. Roy is now put in a serious bind as not only is he about to set his biggest score, he is now having to take responsibilities as a father and try to keep her from getting involved in his work. Of course his daughter isn't what you call a saint. She smokes like he does, drinks, and has been arrested for shoplifting despite being a minor. When she find out what he did for a living, she was impressed and does encourage her father to teach her a few things. She does end up involved in her dad's next con with his partner Frank. Of course, the con didn't go as planned as the guy they screwed was hot in pursuit of Roy. The guy even showed up at his house with Frank being helded hostage and in demand with at least half the cut that he owed. His daughter end up accidentlly killing the guy in attempt to defend her father. Now all three of their lives are in jeopardy, but Angela is the only one that Roy is really concerned about. He has frank drive off with her far away and try to hook up on a later day. However, Roy talks to Heather and discovers that when she was pregnant, she had a miscarriage. Roy was hurt and felt betrayed but as he promised Angela during the movie, he does give up cons and works at a furniture store where he mets Angela one year later. Even though he was disappointed with being set up, they do reconcile their differences. Nicholas Cage and the girl who played Angela were the only saving graces of this movie. They worked well together. The movie had a great story but it was hard to stay focused throughout the whole movie as they showed too many scenes of him looking for his medication and making trips to the drug store which I thought was a little unnecessary. It is at least worthy of a rental, then you can draw your own conclusions.

Wwf: King of the Ring 2001 [Import]

3.0 out of 5 stars kotr 2001 review, March 4 2004
King of the ring was one of the most interesting ppv the wwe had.
Some of the best matches of the year happen at this event like Foley vs Taker (hell in a cell) and there have been some of the worst matches of the year in the kotr like the hardcore evening gown match with patterson and brisco, kiss my foot match with Bret Hart and jerry lawler and Too much vs al snow and head. This King of the ring unlike the majority of them had more strengths than weaknesses. The tournament actually had some real wrestling take place and it wasn't a 3 or 4 minute worthless filler that we've seen in the past years. In fact I think it's the best tournament since the first one back in 1993. Kurt Angle definately earned more of my respect by competing in 3 matches and all 3 matches were top notch. Angle tourney matches might have been a little better if Shane hadn't of interfered in both. The Street Fight was awesome. I would have never though Angle would've wrestled good in this type of match. Angle overhead belly-belly suplex on shane through the kotr entrance which was made of glass was brutual. The angle slam of the top rope was cool too. The main event was pretty good up until the end. Booker T's interference was cool until a month later we discover that they were on the same side all along. Taker-DDP encounter was absoultely stupid. Taker just kicked and punched DDP throughout the encounter. X-Pac vs Jeff Hardy was decent and the tag team match b/w kane and spike vs Dudleys were average too. If I bought this tape, I would only watch the tourney matches and the street fight basically.

4.0 out of 5 stars Swat Review, March 3 2004
I've noticed S.W.A.T hasn't got that many positive reviews which I think is kinda sad. Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell make a good duo in this fast paced action cop thriller. Of course, another interesting thing about this movie is that unlike many cop related flicks, this one has a pg 13 rating. Here's a run-down of the story. Farrell is Jim Street who works on the swat team and his partner is Gambles. Gambles is a troublemaker and Jim always covers up for his mistakes. In the beginning of the movie, Gambles disobeyed the cheif's order and b/c of this a hostage gets shot and is sueing the state. The cheifs has both men removed from the team, but since Jim was very cooperative with the cheif, he was given a chance to redeem himself. This leads to a falling out between the two partners. Luckily for Jim, Hondo(Samuel L. Jackson) the veteran swat leader was asked to assemble a team. Hondo after watching Jim during tryouts was impressed with his abilities and decides that Jim was the perfect guy for the team b/c he had the skills and he disliked the chief just as much as he did. During recruiting, Hondo selects Chris Sanchez, a woman who takes no crap from any one and has been trying for a long time to get on. Chris is Michelle Rodriguez ("The Fast and the Furious"), James Todd Smith (L.L. Cool J), Brian Van Holt and Josh Charles completes the team.
The pressure really is on Hondo b/c if he can't deliver a good time he and Jim are not kicked out of swat but off the force pd.
For a long while, we see the swat team going thru training and celebrating after training. Then the cheif put the team thru an real operation and they passed in flying colors. Finally after countless hours training and reaching the level of expectation from the cheif. The team gets their first assignment which is to escort a french drugdealer into the federal custody. However, that turned out to be harder than they imaged. The guy made 100,000 bond to help him escape. As you would expect alot of people took him up on that offer but shockingly the people we is associated with are two former swat members and one of them was Gambles. This lead to alot of finger pointing about who would be next to sell-out and help the guy. The team was able to stop them from flying away after surviving shootings coming from a line of thugs. The former partners fight each other which lead to Gambles getting ran over by a train, the other guy kills himself and the french drugdealer is back in custody. If you read this review and still not sure if you want to buy it, then at least rent it. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly but truly an inspiring movie, March 2 2004
This review is from: The Fighting Temptations (DVD)
The movie might be a little unrealistic but it does have a strong message added with some humor. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Darrin Hill who grew up in a small town in Georgia along with Lilly (Beyonce Knowles) who he had a crush on since day one but Lilly keeps telling him she's waiting for Michael Jackson to come along. Anyway, Darrin's mother was a member of the church choir and when she was outside of the church she performed in clubs to try and get a record deal. Paulina who i think is a secetary of the church claimed that his mother was an embarrassment for the church because the music she was singing was sexually immoral. Darrin's mother was giving a choice and that was to either to quit performing satan music at the club or leave the choir, she left the choir. Darrin years later was found working in New York at a marketing firm. Darrin literally lies to get want he wants. He misrepesented himself at work and at home by pretending that he graduated from a big university which I think they said was Yale and of course he said he graduated from high school, but that wasn't true either. Of course, Darrin's sins came back to haunt as his boss discovered these misrepresentations and Darrin was unemployed. To make matters worse, Darrin was in financial debt up to his ears and he constantly used up the limit of how much he could spent on his credit cards. The good news is (well kind of good) Darrin's aunt passed away and so he returns to his hometown to see the funeral which was the first time he had seen or talked to her in 20 years. Darrin discovered that in his aunt's will he is asked to take over the church choir and lead them into the gospel explosion, if he is successful he will be inherited 150,000. The problem is, darrin doesn't know jack about music directing, he doesn't know an upbeat from a downbeat. However, Darrin once again misrepresents himself just so he can get his hands on that money by claiming he has helped out musicians like P. Diddy and Dr. Dre. He has Steve Harvey's character, who is a liquor-swigging disc jockey to help promote the choir and get people to try out. Unforunately, noone made the cut. However, as Darrin is still trying to persuade Lilly to join he happens to meet a barbershop trio (O'Jays) singing and was able to get them to join the group and in the next coming weeks Darrin put together the oddest choir ever assembled but when they co-existed, they were awesome. Paulina of course tries desperately to break up the choir by not mentioning the deadline to when the choir was to sign up and pay the fees to get into the contest and always revealing the dirty sins of the group especially Lilly who is single with a son. Darrin did get Lilly to join along with ex-convicts, hillbilly pianist who happens to be a drunkard, rappers, blind boys, etc. Everything was going great until Paulina discovered about Darrin's new york job and that his boss would be willing to hire him back which really concerns the choir and puts Darrin in a morality check. Darrin claims that hey why not lie about all of this when it was the church that tore his family apart and he does go back to new york to promote his liquor product, but as he was promoting it the words of his aunt starting sinking in that he doesn't need to lie about who he is and decides he would rather direct the choir. That task wasn't easy as to deal with the mean Paulina and try to get the rev and lilly back in the group. Against all odds, Darrin did get to lead the choir into the explosion and they ended up winning the contest. Darrin ended up keeping his promise and successfully follow his aunt's wishes and ends up going back to his old church and lead the choir every sunday. Yes, he and Lilly were together and had a their own child. The movie had a very interesting cast and tons of humor. From drinking to Mike Epps pimp lifestyle that he has portrayed in all his movies, to seeing old folks brawling in the church this is definatly a touching but still funny flick. If you liked Bruce Almighty and the 2001 movie "Kingdom Come" you should enjoy this!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Malibu's Most Wanted review, Jan. 29 2004
Malibu is one of those movies that you can sit back and laugh out loud throughout the whole movie. Jamie Kennedy was great as Brad well he says that is his slave name so he prefers being called B-rad. B-rad lives in Malibu with his father Bill (Ryan O'Neal) who is running for governor. B-rad is a wannabe gangster rapper. The problem is that he can't RAP. I mean a preschooler could out rap him. Anyway, noone ever accepts B-rad for who he is. Bill and his staff try to keep his son as far away from his campaign b/c he's afraid b-rad might hurt his chances of winning. After unsuccessful attempts at trying to give b-rad a minor role in the campaign, bill comes up with an idea. That is to hire some black guys named T.J. (Taye Diggs) and Sean (Anthony Anderson) to kipnap b-rad and give him a glipse of what life in the hood is all about and hopefully b-rad will become white again. Even though neither one knew much about the streets they rely on Shondra (Regina Hall) as bait to help lure b-rad in by acting like she was record executive and could help him get a record deal. Of course, things didn't necessiarly go as planned. B-rad was slowly starting to catch on to their plan, but that wasn't all. They enter b-rad into a rapping contest and it was not a pleasant experience for b-rad. On top of that Tec (Shondra ex-boyfriend) started to take offense to him being around her and b-rad was involved in a incrediably bizzare gunfight. Bill realizes that maybe his plan was not a smart one to make. Of course, Shondra who starts to take a liking to him decide to help him before he could end up being killed. The next couple of scenes were absolutely insane as their was somewhat of a battle b/w Tec's crew and B-rad's crew but b-rad decides to come back home. His dad allows him to rap for his campaign, he and shondra start a relationship and shondra got to live her dream in opening up her own salon. This movie definatly ranks in the top 5 in comedy movies of 2003. It's got the same racial stereotypes but it's done in a clean PG-13 fashion. Everyone had fairly good roles and pacing of the movie were pretty good. It's worth checking out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Boat Trip review, Jan. 27 2004
Boat Trip is one of those movies that you definately have to have open mind when you and see it. Cuba Gooding Jr's plays Jerry who starts off being dumped by his girlfriend Vivicia A. Fox. Jerry gets lonely and figures out where did he go wrong in the relationship until Nick (Horatio Sanz) sweet talks him into a singles cruise--not realizing they've been sent on a gay singles cruise by a travel agent who has a few scufflings with Nick in the beginnning. Nick and Jerry thought they had died and went to hell as their was not one woman on the boat until found Jerry meets Gabrielle (Roselyn Sanchez) who appeared in Rush Hour 2, is a hot dance instructor is pretty much fed up men because all they wanted her for was sex. However, their chemistry is great throughout the movie. Nick finds some sexy supermodel who find him just as attractive he felt of her. Both men did what any straight guy would do, pretend that they were gay so the girls can feel very comfortable being around them. However, things weren't working out with Nick and the girl and starts to build a bond with some of the guys on the boat and believes that maybe this was the life for him. Jerry after takes numerous dance lessons with Gabrielle being to have a bond with her and he knew that she was the one for him. Of course things weren't working out with Vivica A. Fox's characters and her men with a passion for buffing and decides to find Jerry and get back together with him. When she gets on the boat and sees Jerry play into a homosexual play she is mad and ask Jerry why he never told he was gay. Gabrielle hears Jerry confess that he was never gay and revealed all the lies he had told her and wants him to stay away from her. Vivicia and Jerry decide to get married until Nick stands up and convinces Jerry that Gabrielle is really the one for him and they end up getting back on the boat and Jerry and Gabrielle do make up and become a couple and Nick after realize that the supermodel was the one for him decides to fly to Alaska to look for her but she wouldn't be back for another 3 months. The only advice I could give is if your not easily offended with homosexuality and don't mind seeing cross dressing, men holding hands and smacking each other on the rear, then you might want to check this out. However, it's not recommend for viewing.

I didn't really know who Cold was when I first heard this CD. I probably have heard some of their older songs but never knew what they're name was. Anyway, there's not hardly one bad song on this CD which is odd for rock cds. Cold just like Staind does a good job of picking subjects to talk about on their songs of course without the yelling and screaming that most hard rockers do. It's sort of mellow and headbanging which is really cool. My favorite songs are Suffocate, Cure My Tragedy, whatever you became and Sad/Happy. They sing about stuff anybody can relate to such as trying to get rid of bad lifestyles, tradegy, and and trying to get over struggles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better the second time, Jan. 24 2004
Today horror movies are not that good but when I watched the 1st jeepers creepers, I really enjoyed it. Anyway, the sequel takes place in the farm when the farmer and his two sons do some work. The younger boy puts up the scarecrows (which one of them is the creeper), and the older boy works on the truck. The father walks out to do something and has the younger boy puts up all the scarecrows, he notices something wasn't right. By the time he finds out what's going on, it's too late the creeper grabs him and flys off. The look in the father's eye can tell you that he will come back later to seek revenge. The creeper doesn't show again until a school bus drive down a highway with the football team, coaches, and cheerleaders. As the school bus is driving one of the cheerleaders visually sees and later dreams of the guy who the creeper killed in the last movie trying to warn her and explain all the necessary details about the creeper. Of course, it was too late the creeper ends up capturing the busdriver and the coaches which really put the kids in a bind. During the movie some of the kids turn on each other, trying to find out who's will be next, and how they were going to live to survive this attack. Luckily for some of the kids, the father of the child that were captured in the beginning does come back for revenge, but it was more than he expected as he finds out that the creeper cannot be killed, but when his time is up he will be gone until 23 years later from that date. In the end, he comes up with a clever solution that I think would be better to be seen for yourself. I think the first one is equally as good as the this one, but if you liked the first one, you should have no problem liking this one as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out Of Time Review, Jan. 24 2004
This review is from: Out of Time (DVD)
I thought this was a good movie, again not perfect or oscar material like some of other Denzel washington work, but still enjoyable. Washington is Cheif Matt Whitlock who at the beginning makes some very bad mistakes that come back to haunt him. As he and alex (eva mendes) were on the verge of getting a divocere, he has an affair with ex-girlfriend Ann (sanaa lathan who has been in flicks like (blade, love and basketball, and Brown Sugar). This was Matt first mistake. His second mistake was when Ann went to the doctor and supposedly has cancer, decides to become the beneificary for her life insurance policy. His third mistake was stealing money for a sting operation to help pay for Ann to have surgery. Chris Harrison (Dean Caine) who was a mean and suspicious husband used this cancer situation to his advantage and get back at Matt. How does he do it? Supposedly, the Harrison's house was set on fire and they were supposedly killed. Matt last mistake was when he and Ann were supposed to meet to pick up the drug money when over to the house, where some people saw him and believed he was the culprit for this act of arson. Just like the Negotatior (the movie where Samuel L. Jackson had to prove he did not kill his partner and find out who did), Matt was indeed running out of time before all sources were to point toward him. Of course his soon to be ex-wife who involved in the case. Matt found out some interesting things concerning Ann. He found out the doctor that she saw with him is not a real doctor and that her real doctors have reported that she has always been in good health. While Matt was at the station, he lied, evade and did everything a deseperate man would do to save himself. He does have a confortation with the fake doctor and does find the Harrisons. He then finds out what all was going on. Chris might have been behind the whole plan but Ann did some role in it as well. Alex ends up coming to the aid to keep him from being killed by both Harrison's and they do get back together. Overall it was a well told story and had some interesting twists and turns in the movie. Everybody played their characters really well. I think it's worth checking out!

When I saw the previews for this movie, I thought man I don't think I want waste my time with this. However, my mother bought the movie and I thought I would try to watch it. The movie was pretty stupid as I expected, but there was really hilarous scenes in the movie. I thought the movie would have a good amount of gross out humor in it such Tom Green was in this. However, there isn't one gross scene in the movie, unless you want to consider spooning with old guy nasty. Jason Lee is John who at one time promised his niece who did horrible in a spelling bee tried to comfort her by saying that if she got into college, he'd pay for it. Unforunately for John, his comments were videotaped and his niece got accepted into Harvard. He needed about 30,000. The money he had was going into a new home for he and his wife. John was going to many people for help, but the only person who tries to help him is Duff. However, Duff gets him in deeper water than he could ever imagine. In Duff's ideas, John gets shot at, spoons with a judge that ends up getting him out of trouble in the end of the movie, and has a criminal record that doom a person for life. I believe that John got to steal some money from his wife's dad to pay for the tuition. The scenes that I thought were funny was when they tried to rob the liquor store with toy guns that were spray painted to look like real ones, the worker ended up having a real gun and made them drop the money and guns, but the gun was stuck to john's hand. Another scene i liked was when duff and john were arguing John grab Duff and ram his head into the hood of their getaway car about 10 times until the cops showed up. I would only recommend this if you enjoy silly, obnoxious slapstick comedy without some gross out humor.
