the reviews on this website are into 3 categories: The new liz phair fans that also picked up the new britney album this past week, the new liz phair fan pretending they liked exile in guyville, and the disgruntled indie fan who fell head over heels for exile in guyville.
I read review after review on the website, and i am ashamed. I bet that at least half of the reviewers that claimed that they liked exile in guyville AND this album are pulling your leg. I myself am a huge Liz Phair fan, and still am. I know just about every single word to Exile and Guyville, and could sing "F**K and Run" or "divorce song" perfectly off the top of my head.
this CD is trash. mindless pop. whats the point of it? there is no reason for it to exist. Liz poured out her heart and soul into exile in guyville- her honest, heartfelt lyrics over rough production. Here, we get your "everyday sane psycho" sung over forgetful, sugary pop chords. The "HWC" song is a evil scheme to regain those doubtful fans, and i fell into that ploy.
"OH, it has to GROW on you! let it GROW ON YOU!!!!" it takes awhile to get into exile in guyville. it took me 2 years to get into it... i gave it a chance. at least 10 chances. and it sucks.
if she had never made exile in guyville, this album would still be critically slammed. the fact that she made such a perfect record in the early 90's just makes it worse.

Ahh... a best of tori collection, and just in time for the holidays. I think i may buy it for 2 or 3 of my friends... Tori Amos has to be one of my favorite female singers of all time, and this album captures the essence of it all. While there were tons of songs that had to be left off (most notably Caught a Lite Sneeze, Happy Phantom, Northern Lad, Space Dog) but this is the perfect album for any casual tori fan or someone trying to get into her music. The album is beautifully packaged and has a 20 page color lyric booklet to go along with it. And the DVD is worth the package alone for the die hards like me- great performances. The new songs arent obviously as strong as the classics, but i didnt expect them to be. All the old songs sound remastered, and you can really tell a difference. Id reccomend this for any tori fan.

I'm going to be a senior this year, which mean's im on my search for college. This book is great for the in depth details but probably isnt the best... I like the princeton review alot better. This thing gives you the basic facts, but the Princeton gives you the student's opinions on the college. But anyhow, this is a great guide that just about every major college you could think of for a reference. I also like the "competitive" rankings that it has- to see how hard the school actually is. But i think this book needs to be on a more personal level than just spitting out the facts you could find on any online site.

Tricky's last album blowback definately wasnt his greatest, but it was definately one of his most eclectic. He used so many influences, from the Red hot Chili Peppers, to the singer from Live, and mixed it all together for unfortunately half baked results. But this album is almost like a return to his roots, using only one vocalist throughout the whole album- but the album sounds very repetitive. EVeryones asking for another maxinquaye and he still's not givin it to us. But im sure its hard to repeat that. The beats on this album sound very repetitive and doesnt even really sound too much like an album where the beats are supposed to be everything. Its just like background beats- nothing special. His beats are supposed to make up for his voice which he can't do much with. If youre an avid fan, buy it, because you all are probably the only ones that are actually buying the album. I dont htink this album even charted. (besides the electronica chart) but it is a definate disappointemnt.

I dont think alot of the reviewers get this. I've written reviews complaining about bad and ignorant reviewers for Radiohead's OK Computer (one of the best ever) and Tool's AEnima. This one has been at 4 stars for a long time, but please guys. this is an album that you have to grow on, and it takes time. before you get into this kind of music, do yourself a favor and be prepared for it. Wilco creates such sonic landscapes and textures, even similar to the soundscapes made on Radiohead's Kid A. The melodies are wonderful, the disc is light and refreshing at times, and saddening in others. One of the best discs to come out in 2002, and this one is at 4 stars unfortuantely. Such a shame...

2.0 out of 5 stars tsk tsk..., July 5 2003
This review is from: Liz Phair (Audio CD)
Liz Phair has sold her soul to the mainstream, and she's probably thinking twice about it now. Even with the slutty makeover and the new sugar coated pop songs which would have just as well fitted onto avril's disc, actually sold 4,000 less copies than her last album, the more original "white chocolatespacegg" did. the songs are just VH1 friendly songs, too forgettable to be played on radio. the single "Why Cant I" is catchy, but could have gone anywhere. Liz Phair pretty much CHANGED the direction of music with the disc "Exile In Guyville", and artists like No Doubt and Alanis Morrisette may not be here and/or as popular if not for that disc smashing all boundaries of females in music. It just saddens me that she has lost her character. some may think that she is still as frank as ever with songs like HWC and signature blatant profanity throughout the songs, but it just isnt the same.
i know she's going in a "poppier" direction, and what is wrong with it? the fact is, the music overall [is bad]. pretty much anyone who likes this album arent fans of her earlier work with maybe a few exceptions. i dont know how you can really love both.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIEVERY CORPORATION IS GOOD DOWN TEMPO, July 5 2003
This review is from: Richest Man In Babylon (Audio CD)
this is one hell of a CD. its garnered praise from magazines such as rolling stone and vibe, and in a world of bad and just mediocre, boring downtempo music, this one shines above the rest. their first two albums were alright, but this one has alot of indian/asian infulence on it, and the lyrics and booklet showcase famine and is very political. it could have had a bit more variety, but the album is one to create an atmosphere and mood more than anything, and not to be put into disecting song by song. definately reccomended.
