Wonderful book, Oct 11 2001
I loved this book as a child for the story as well as the beautiful illustrations. I treated the book well and some years later now share it with my daughter who loves it as much as I did.

A stark but enthralling view of life during wartime., July 20 2001
I was not overly fond of either of the main characters in this novel but still found their struggles and experiences rivetting. In the beginning, I was annoyed by Ada's helplessness but I enjoyed accompanying her as she learned how to survive, with the help of Ruby (who quickly became my favorite character). Inman's journey showcased both the ugliness of war and how it leaves nothing and no one untouched. I appreciated the stories of each person he met up with, especially the woman with the goats, and how each person left some impression him. I also enjoyed the attention to the details of the flora and fauna, they become a character of the story all by themselves. Despite the hardships all around they still thrived. This is not a soft view of the Civil War, at times it is downright horrible but I believe it is an honest one. I did not see this as a love story, so much as two people wanting to recapture the feelings of a few brief moments they shared before the ugliness of war changed their lives. In much the same way adults sometimes wish for the freedom of childhood. However, you can't go back and I think that is why the book ended as it did in the last chapter before the epilogue. The epilogue itself was a bit vague and confusing.

A Love Beyond Time is rich with historical detail and interesting characters. The pages come alive through Aitken's wonderful writing, she is truly a gifted writer. There aren't words enough to describe how amazing this book was, just buy it.

A thoroughly good read., Jan 25 2000
I picked this book up on a whim and am so glad I did. The characters are real and I never found myself questioning their thoughts or actions. You appreciate Mary's struggle to come to terms with life in the Highlands which is so different from her easy & boring life in London (before Alex came along). Alex is charming, funny and romantic. It's easy to see why Mary fell for him, he respects her mind and heart and never treats her terribly, as I've seen a lot in romance novels, man treats the woman horribly yet because he's attractive she puts up with it and falls in love. Mary is an intelligent woman with a good heart, she is very likable. It's a good book to curl up with on a rainy day.

This book kept me up until 3 in the morning, I couldn't bear to tear myself away from it. It has humour, fantasy, romance, love and magic. Sinjin is a terrific male character! This one's on my keeper shelf.

A wonderful book., Jan 24 2000
This book was good on many different levels and should appeal to both historical romance fans and fans of more contemporary novels. The story of Nell & Donal offers a fascinating historical backdrop to the present day lives of Jilly & Frankie. The historical information about Ireland is presented in such a way that when you finish this book you walk away with an understanding of current & past conflicts that couldn't have been obtained a better way. Ms. Baker has a tremendous ability to develop characters who become so real you feel as though you could invite them to tea. The relationship between Nell & Jilly is magical and adds a touch of fantasy to the story. If you enjoy Irish history, romance and just a darn good story you'll like "Nell".

This CD blew me away!, May 20 1999
I rarely buy an album from a new artist after only hearing one song but this group was an exception. I heard "Little Goodbyes" and loved it so much I bought the album. I am totally impressed by this group, every song on the album is worth releasing. I highly reccommend this album to country fans.
