at long last, this superb lp has been released on cd! every track is a winner on this eclectic release. one of my favourites of all time. personal favourite tracks are the songs co-written by carole pope and kevan staples of rough trade (transformation and design for living), but all the songs on this cd are terrific. if you are like me, don't get it for the extra tracks, they are all just a bunch of remixes, buy it for the original tracks. top three albums by nona: nona (this one), skindiver and her latest; mutatis mutandis. all very different and all original from this amazing artist.

this is a well made quality product but there is one flaw in the design that I had in another similar product. that is that it doesn't have slits in the side where the seatbelt shoulder strap would go through to help hold it in place. as a result, I simply doesn't stay in place and flops around. I have stopped using it as a result. otherwise, it is well made and of sturdy material. I had a similar product I bought from Costco years ago that had the slits for the shoulder straps and preferred it greatly.

4.0 out of 5 stars alison continues, May 17 2013
This review is from: Minutes (Audio CD)
i have been a megafan of alison's music since yazoo days. she continues to challenge herself and change her styles. a truly great artist. the minutes is a bit of a return to her electronic form but don't expect yazoo part 3. this is very different from that. like alison has said this is a very current and relevant album. dark, moody, beautiful. debuting at number 4 in the uk charts, let's home it continues to get the success it deserves.
fave tracks for me are the darker ones for sure. 'right as rain', the very dark 'rung by the tide' and 'a place to stay'. however the album as a whole is wonderful. favourite cd of the year so far, let's hope she brings it to north america.

at long last, nona has released her first full length solo cd since skindiver! what a treat. took a couple of listens but the more i listen the more i like. fave tracks are the ballad of rush limbaugh (my spelling is wrong i'm sure) and the version of strange fruit is almost unrecognizable but brilliant, relevant and just as effective as the original. my suggestion is to purchase this along with carole popes lasted 'landfall'. both cd show artist absent for a long time but at the peak of their creativity (and both have had a past working replationship).

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful AND glorious, Feb. 14 2013

I have been a fan of Eels ever since Beautiful Freak. IMO they have never put out a bad album. their albums range from good to excellent but in later years (probably since Souljacker) their albums have had a certain samieness (yes i know that's not a word) about them, both thematically and musically. It was with this in mind that i didn't even purchase their last cd, tomorrow morning, until guilt drove me to pick it up just recently. It is a good album don't get me wrong but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table.
Wonderful Glorious is probably my favourite Eels cd in quite awhile. It's a little more rock, more upbeat with fewer ballads. Eels ballads are always sensitive and beautiful but they tend to all sound the same. For me, their heavier or faster songs are where they display their ecclectic nature and there are more of them on this cd. i haven't listened to the bonus cd yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars a solid retrospective with a unique bonus, Jan. 11 2013

this is a solid disc full of all the hits one would expect of a truly underapprectiated artist.
the bonus disc is truly unique and offers alternative versions of some of alison's back catalogue. it is worth buying for this disc alone. don't misunderstand me though. not all tracks on the bonus disc are home runs. the reinterpretations run from excellent (the stripped back is this love?, all cried out and ordinary girl, which i never really appreciated from the raindancing album but here is quite emotional); the okay (hoodoo, midnight, footsteps - afterall you can't improve on the pop perfection of the original); to the pointless (ski and wishing you were here were already stripped back and don't sound significantly different here; find me and this house - my favourite song of all time - lose a lot of their emotion here).
however it is such a unique idea and the tracks that are homeruns make it well worth the purchase and the other tracks are still.....okay but the originals are better imho.
a great collection from a truly underrated singer and songwriter.

Carole Pope certainly has not been the most prolific of artists since her departure from the amazing Rough Trade and it is a real shame. This lastest cd is such an eclectic mix and really highlights her songwriting. To me, this is her best since 'Avoid Freud' and that is a high high compliment from me as Rough Trade was and continues to be one of my favourite bands of all time. So many highlights here i don't know where to start. i only wish that Carole would get back on the touring circle because she is also a hell of a performer.
don't wait so long next time Carole.

3.0 out of 5 stars the voice, Nov. 12 2011
This review is from: Innocence Ballet (Audio CD)
Alfie Zappacosta has an amazing voice but in reality his songwriting tends to be geared to the ladies. i enjoy his remake of his hit 'when i fall' (in love again). although still more of a song the ladies will like. nothing wrong with that really.

I think i could be shot by some for this but i recently purchased this cd by the brilliant mark hollis and i have to say. i am really struggling with it. i think if i was a musician, i might have a better appreciation for it but it is too experimental and progressive for my more mainstream tastes. i love talk talk and mark hollis' voice is amazing but that is part or the problem for me. too much instrumental and not enough vox. i'm sure that musically speaking, it's terrific and i'm trying but so challengin for my tastes.

first of all let me just say that it is about frickin' time got this cd released. it has been available everywhere else for weeks. oh well all i can say is that it is well worth the wait. not only waiting for amazon to release it here in canada but the long wait between tour and live cd release. i remember seeing yazOO in new york the summer of 2008 and being blown away by the sound and performance of alison and vince. never thought it would happen but it did!!!!!
the sound quality found on these cds are amazing, alison moyet's voice is incredible. just as i recalled it from the actual live show. the sound literally jumps out of my car speakers. i think i may blow one or two before i'm done with these discs. this release brings new life to these old, classic songs!!!!
