His Needs, Her Needs for Parents: Keeping Romance Alive
His Needs, Her Needs for Parents: Keeping Romance Alive
by Willard F. Jr. Harley
Edition: Hardcover
22 used & new from CDN$ 2.70

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, April 18 2006
Harley points out some very common occurances in marriages that happen once children enter the picture. The couple (or one of the two) has fallen in love with the child. Child-centered marriages ultimately divide the couple in subtle ways. Harley teaches the reader how to recognize unhealthy habits or strengths in the marriage and teaches them to attain a good marriage WITH children, which results in a very happy household.
Harley also has chapters dedicated to mixed marriages (couples with previous children), intruding in-laws, and disorders.
He explains the beauty/need for romance, how to divide household tasks, and how to handle conflicts. Very comprehensive and easily applicable book!

Overcoming Jealousy And Posses
Overcoming Jealousy And Posses
by Paul A. Hauck
Edition: Paperback
Price: CDN$ 11.51

1.0 out of 5 stars Very unhappy..., April 18 2006
This book holds some good points in that each person is responsible for their own feelings and that by distancing one's self from another's actions, one can overcome jealousy/possessiveness quite easily.
HOWEVER...the author of this book fails entirely to value the bond being built between 2 people in dating/marriage and ultimately encourages extreme independence in relationships. Marriage therapists would see this as frightfully unhealthy when applied in the extreme sense Hauck is suggesting.
I would not reccomend this book to anybody wanting to overcome unhealthy habits of jealousy/possessiveness in the light of wanting to IMPROVE their relationship. Though people with unhealthy self-esteem (resulting in jealousy) need to learn some independence I would be VERY weary about reccomending this book. It promotes an unhealthy extreme and does not place any value on healthy inter-dependent relationships (meaning each person is responsible for their own feelings/actions while choosing to act with another person's best interest in mind).
I was very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars So happy I found this book..., April 18 2006
The Four Seasons of Marriage explains basic characteristics of what healthy/unhealthy marriages look like. It's filled with examples to help the reader relate and best discover strengths/weaknesses in themselves. Chapman depicts strategies in an easy to understand and very practical format to help move (or stay) in the spring/summer seasons of a healthy marriage.
There's also a section dedicated to the reader wanting to improve their marriage even when the spouse is not cooperative or showing signs of wanting to change.
Excellent book for married couples, or for those just looking to prepare themselves with a healthy mindset before getting married.
It's a very easy and fun read! Anybody who found The Five Love Languages helpful will appreciate this book as well.
