A masterpiece, Feb 3 2004
The melody that gives the title to this cd, "On Broadway" is a masterpiece of arrangement: every instrument is on the very right key and it truly makes you live that very special feeling that you only get every once in a while with very special music. Listen to it, you will buy it instantly.

Four stars, April 18 2003
There are two recordings in this record that deserve five stars: "Viva Tirado" and "Cayuco". The rest is rather poor, specially "La Cucaracha". However, the price is very attractive and that is why I concede it four stars.

Simpatica y nostalgica, April 4 2003

Dangerous stuff, Mar 19 2002
After "Last exit to Brooklyn", as far as I know this is the second Hubert Selby's book brought into the screen. Both are just "dangerous stuff" meaning that they are not for sensitive people. If you want to dive into the very dark and deep waters of what is going on (maybe) in the flat or the house next to yours, or even your own home, go ahead: buy it but be very careful because it may ring something that you never realize before. This is just an extraordinary movie but not at all for depressive or too sensitive persons. Watch out!!! Not reccomended for a rainy afternoon.

Not the best, July 18 2001
I think I have read all the books writen by Kapuscinski and this particular one is weak. It seems that the author just took some of the notes that he wrote during his visits to Africa and constructed an unsuccesfully collage; to my big surprise and regret, Kapuscinski just superficially refers to the greatest dissease of many African and Third World countries: corruption. Nevertheless, this book is a just a good initiation for those interested in the forgotten continent politics.

Top music. Grotesque movie, July 18 2001
Many years ago during a heavy rain afternoon in Madrid, the best thing to do was to enter to a cinema. The one nearby presented "Che!" and it was hilarious to see Jack Palance playing the role of Fidel Castro, as well as the actor (don't even remember his name) who played as Ernesto "Che" Guevara. The movie is simply and totally grotesque and it constitutes an insult to the only authentic revolution ocurred in Latin America during the last century (the Mexican included). On the sunny side of the street, is the music: Schifrin shows he is a master of composition. He truly feels what he was doing and capts both the Andean and Cuban sounds with respect and dignity. Don't miss this record.

Pure pre-cold war, May 23 2001
I saw this film long ago on television in my country, under the title of "El rata" (The rat) and, again, a couple of years ago in Paris under the absurd title of "Le port de la drogue" (The port of drugs). Now I have the video and see it every now and then. It is a very well elaborated movie typical of the pre-cold war times in the USA: the anti-communist paranoia, etcetera, along with a love story and, indeed, detectives, though guys and other fantasticaly well combined elements. The work of the Director is great, as well as the perfomances by Widmark and Jean Peters, extremely beautiful. Also, Thelma Ritter was awarded with an Oscar for the second feminine role. This is a must-see by all means and apart from the merits mentioned above, I recomend the superb music and, very particularly, the dialogue between Candy and Lightning Louie at the Chinese restaurant, unforgetable. Buyers will enjoy it very much.

A remarkable direction, Feb 17 2000
After "The Wild One", this might be one of the masterpieces of motorcycle-gangs films. A well elaborated production and, above all, a remarkable work of the Director. A must see by all means.
