Blondel, amazing as usual, Mar 25 2013
This album is rather different from previous Amazing Blondel albums, but there is still the exceptional musicianship of Eddie Baird and Terry Wincott...and this collection is lovely. It certainly showcases the individual band member's evolution in songwriting and it is also a huge affirmation that while he is surely missed, John Galdwin is not the essential ingredient. Baird's songwriting is wonderful. Fools Gold, Maybe and Don't Turn Your Back are great songs but the aficionados of the original Amazing Blondel will love the song Here At Last. Blondel...still amazing.

Superb music, DVD falls far short, Nov 25 2011
I have been a fan of Sigur Ros ever since hearing Agaetis byrjun when it first came out. Their DVD "Heima" is totally brilliant, a wonderful film of their live, often unannounced concerts in their native Iceland. Full of rich landscapes and intimate musical settings it is a feast for the eye and the ear and truly encapsulates the spirit of Sigur Ros. I bought Inni on the strength of that DVD. The music is excellent, captured during one of their final performances in 2008, and filmed in London, surely a centre of their fan-base. The DVD is quite dreadful....filmed for the most part in flickering, overexposed and uncentered black and white. I think the cinematographer missed the opportunity and, more importantly, the point. When I watch a band with the complexity of Sigur Ros I want to actually SEE the players and watch them perform. I am not interested in the cinematographer's personal attempt to make the film artistic by whitewashing the footage and showing the players half off the screen backed by a wall of overexposure! Enough said. It's a good enough collection but I shall be revisiting "Heima" for the real Sigur Ros experience!

Exquisite Poetry of the Guitar, Oct 8 2011
This is the most extraordinary display of mindful jazz guitar playing. I won't go through it track-by-track because the entire selection is just simply a treat for the ear and the mind. Dan Ar Braz combines soulful jazz with wonderful Celtic tunes that enchant the soul. If you need a primer then listen to L'Oest Perdue and you will be hooked. Like a few other brilliant guitar players his sound, once heard is unmistakeable. The sound of a true master.

Deacon Blue's Ultimate Comeback Album, Mar 6 2011
A very clever release of new material interspersed with classic Deacon Blue favourites like Chocolate Girl and When Will You Make My Telephone Ring. Released in 1999 after a 5-year hiatus it was a wonderful concept album to give back to the many fans all over the world what they knew they were missing. Cutting vocals from Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, and the very heartfelt and cleverly composed tunes played by a band straight from the heart. A Scottish export of tremendous importance.

Raw Blues, Mar 6 2011
Jack de Kyzer produces one of his best performances on this cd. A brilliant blues guitarist who epitomises the plains blues guy...not complicated or overstated....just plain blues. The track King of The Blues is a must listen, and the entire cd a workshop for anyone interested in playing or understanding this musical style. A must-have in any serious blues collection.

Beautiful chilled, Mar 6 2011
This is the best and most sophisticated chillout/ambient cd I have ever heard. I am a fan of electronica and ambient and if you like artists such as Kettel, Lights Out Asia, Ontayso, or Quosp this is a must listen. Like many listeners my first exposure to William Orbit was from a chillout compilation...his Barber's Adagio For Strings made popular on the club circuits around the world. But this proves that that was no "one-off." His music is ethereal, delicately woven and extremely pleasing. Tracks like Bubble Universe, and Who Owns The Octopus are simply beautiful. Certainly one of my finds of the year.

The Orb outshined by David Gilmour, Mar 6 2011
I bought this cd on the strength of David Gilmour. As a Pink Floyd afficianado I simply had to give it a listen. It is definitely "out there" as a previous reviewer has stated, but is for the most part a pleasing listen. The Orb's computerised beats orchestrated in support of David Gilmours superlative seagull guitar improvisations, reminescent of Echoes, or the wonderful soundtrack he did for the PBS documantary The Colours Of Infinity, The Beauty And Power Of Fractals. The seamless tracking I find slightly irritating, as you cannot select one particular track. OK, the artist wants you to listen to the whole piece, but some "tracks" are more interesting than others. The "metallic Side" is wonderous, ambient, beautiful. The "Spheres Side" is heavier, almost trance, and is only rescued for me by the final section where Gilmour reenters and takes control of the music. For me the Orb could have stayed home, but Gilmours guitars alone are worth the price of the disc.

Expansive space ambience at it's best, Jan 2 2011
This is a beautiful album of ambient music. Deep and lush harmonies and a seamless "songlist" that includes wonderful samples from artists like acclivity...the electronic purring of the female voice on track #1 is transfixing. If you like melodic, ambient electronica, the likes of Kettel, Sense, Brian Eno or Ontayso, this is a must listen. A spacey yet subtle work that borrows some titles from the film: 2010, The Year We Make Contact..."All These Worlds Are Yours/Except Europa/Attempt No Landing There." This music brings the emptiness and wonder of space into my living room!

Classic Lilac Time, Dec 17 2010
Stephen Duffy has to be one of the finest songwriters to come out of the late 80's British music scene. The original The Lilac Time was a breakthrough album full of rich melodies and catchy rhythms (Return To Yesterday) and I play it once a month without fail. This new album is a rich tapestry of Stephen's brilliant songwriting. Reminescent of Nick Drake, or The House Of Love, The Lilac Time are simply beautiful. Check out the song Another Time. Progressive almost folk/acoustic rock this is a must have for all Lilac fans.

The Biology Teacher's Bible, Oct 28 2010
I have taught high school biology for 30 years. This is the most wonderful resource I have ever found. It beats the internet hands down! Notes followed by question sheets, puzzles, diagrams and tests are all here. It is the one resource that I go to when introducing a new unit or looking for a new way to teach a concept. It is, in my opinion, the essential biology teaches companion! I have found it irreplaceable and brilliantly effective.
