Suprisingly good, July 2 2004
I'm one of those die hard Rush fans, so it was hard for me to imagine them playing cover songs. I don't think they've played covers since the Rush tour in 1974. They have never recorded a cover and put it on an album. I was pleasantly suprised to hear that Rush can play most of these songs better than the original bands. "Heart Full Of Soul" by the Yardbirds and "Crossroads" by Cream are my favorites. There's also "The Seeker" by the Who, "Shapes Of Things" also by The Yardbirds, and of course a song that's already been covered by millions of other bands, "Summertime Blues". (my least favorite on this cd) The sound quality is excellent, which is a big plus after the horrible sound quality of Vapor Trails. Fans of Rush, and fans of the bands they covered, like Cream, Yardbirds, The Who, Buffalo Springfield, Love, should get this right now. Don't pay attention to some of those idiots who reviewed this cd saying they've hated Rush all these years but still kept buying their albums.

Better than I expected, July 2 2004
As another reviewer said, I've never been a big fan of Toto. In fact, before I bought this dvd, I could only identify 4 of their songs. (Hold The Line, Rosanna, Africa, Stranger In Town) I was curious about this dvd so I bought it and was very surprised how good their live show is. This is one of those bands that sound better live. I'll probably still won't get all their cds. The performance here is excellent. Bobby Kimball's voice still sounds good. Steve's guitar playing is excellent. The video editing is for the most part normal. Not that annoying MTV style editing like on most live dvds these days. The sound is perfect. These guys just look like they're having fun. Especially on the tour documentary thing. They're always wild and having fun off stage. Especially Steve Lukather. They just seem like a bunch of nice guys if you would ever meet them in person. It's a definite must for the Toto fans, and I also recommend it for the curious, even if you don't like the big hits, you might like some of the less-known songs.

an all-cover cd was a great idea!, Jun 16 2004
This is only their 3rd cd, but it's the best one by far. The cd starts off with "You're No Good", which isn't very good. I don't know why they'd start the cd that way. When you get to songs like "Already Gone", "Go Your Own Way", and "Get Together", they sound great. In my opinion, those 3 particular songs sound better than the originals. Other Highlights are "Monday Monday" and "Turn Turn Turn". When Wilson Phillips does a cover song, they can usually make it sound better than the original artist, so this cd is a must have for Wilson Phillips fans, and fans of the original songs. Compare the versions. Even Carnie, who usually sucks when she's doing lead vocals (remember the song Someday I'll Be Next To You? Ug!!), sounds good on this one. Of course she still sounds better harmonizing with the other 2. There are no original Wilson Phillips songs on this cd, so even if you didn't like the first 2 albums, give this one a try.

oops, April 11 2004
I must make a correstion from my review. That problem with the picture that I mentioned does not exist on this dvd. It turned out to be my dvd player that has the problem because I noticed the same thing on other dvds. The picture on this dvd is perfect.

a classic!, April 11 2004
Scatterbrain was one of those bands that deserved more attention than they got. Especially with this, their debut, "here comes trouble", which also happens to be their best. There's plenty of excellent guitar work. 3 of the band members came from the punk/thrash band Ludichrist. (singer, 2 guitarists) Musically, the cd is happy sounding metal/thrash/funk with plenty of catchy guitar riffs. A few covers, including Earache My Eye by Cheech & Chong, Mozart's 3rd Sonata, and a Ludichrist cover called Down With The Ship, in which they play parts of many different songs. Sort of a "name that tune" type of thing. On that track, they play pieces of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendricks, Yes, Doors, Metallica, Van Halen, Aerosmith and one or two others. Not too many people remember this band, but when this album first came out, I was an immediate fan since I was already a fan of Ludichrist. They played in Atlanta twice on this tour and they were great both times. This is a great cd for metal fans to listen to when they're in a good mood. Just an all-around happy, comedic cd.

There's no reason not to buy this if you're a fan, April 2 2004
Like Suicidal Tendencies, Testament went into the studio to re-record their best stuff and it came out much better. Testament's first 2 albums were their best ones anyway, but now you can hear re-recorded selections with updated technology and the result is absolutely killer! They kept the guitars tuned down as they have in their more recent albums. Chuck's vocals sound a lot more evil. There's also some guest vocals by Steve Souza of Exodus. He does parts of "Alone In The Dark" and ALL of "Reign Of Terror". And Steve Souza sounds just as killer as Chuck Billy. This is for the true thrash/metal fans. As I said, Suidical Tendencies did the same thing. Re-recorded their first album and the new one sounds a lot better. I think more metal bands should do this. S.O.D. should re-record Speak English Or Die. D.R.I. should re-record Dealing With It and the Dirty Rotten LP with their current line-up. Hopefully this is the start of a small trend.

ANOTHER compilation?!, Mar 22 2004
Wow. Nobody that I can think of right now has released more compilation albums or "best of" albums than Yes, especially in the last 10 years or so. You've got Classic Yes, The Very Best Of Yes, 2...that's right 2 (!) box sets which mostly have the exact same songs...oh, they throw in a couple unreleased tracks so you can buy both box sets, then there's remixes, there's a new compilation of just stuff from Open Your Eyes and The Ladder, there's a compilation of individual members like Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman playing Yes songs...I mean come on! Rick is back in the band...LET'S HEAR SOME NEW MATERIAL! Now if we can get Rick and Trevor Rabin to be in the band at the same time, that would be awesome! The only, and I mean the ONLY reason to buy this cd is if you don't already have any of the compilations I mentioned. I'm sure the die hard fans will buy it, but I think I'll wait for the live cd supposedly coming out this summer. (yes, another release with no new material) If you're a new Yes fan and don't have any of their cds, then YES! This is a perfect compilation to start with. But then this should be the only compilation you buy. If you like this compilation, then buy some of their regular cds.

it just depends, Jan 28 2004
This cd will really depend on your taste. Some will love it, and some will hate it. There's really no middleground. The music is all over the place at times. During those times it seems like the guitars are playing one thing and the drums are playing a totally different song, and yet it all seems to fit so perfectly. It's definitely sort of "progressive". Imagine the band Confessor. It's a little like that, except Meshuggah has a better vocalist. Remember Confessor's vocals were so high they made James LaBrie sound like Peter Steele. The vocals on Meshuggah are more of a Pantera/Soilwork style. The drumming is also a lot better than Confessor. Unfortunately, Confessor is the only band that comes to mind that I can even come close to comparing Meshuggah with, even though they're very different. If this is your cup of tea, then you'll love Meshuggah. If you like your metal more straightforward, then you probably won't like Meshuggah. And yes, this is Pantera/Soilwork style vocals with tuned down guitars playing one or two riffs per song, but don't worry. In no way is this band "nu-metal".

perfect for Mystery Science Theater 3000, Jan 23 2004
This movie is almost as good as Eegah or Manos: The Hands Of Fate. The difference is From Justin To Kelly has worse dialog and worse acting. This movie is a 90 minute music video. That's it. It's basically like watching one of those MTV beach party shows, except with a lot of annoying dialog. Kelly Clarkson, please just stick to singing. At least you can do that okay. Justin can't act OR sing, so I guess you're perfect for movies like this. Maybe you'll be in Glitter 2. The basic plot is our 2 heros meet. The next day she's already jealous if there's another female within 10 miles of him. Basic junior high school stupidity. Even the songs suck. If you want to see a good musical, get the Blues Brothers 2000 instead. Sure, a lot of 10 year old female teeny boppers will probably love this movie. If you're like me and you love GOOD movies like The Usual Suspects or Forrest Gump, you'll find nothing to like about From Justin To Kelly. Geez, even the title is stupid. I wish MST3K was still doing shows. This would be the next episode they would do.

wow!, Jan 23 2004
It's hard to describe this band. This is a band you can't really compare to any other metal band. They are very heavy, and at the same time, kind of trippy. Sort of Pink Floyd-ish. There are heavy guitars and vocals on the heavy parts, and some steel or slide guitar (whatever you call it) with cool keyboards on the lighter parts. Plenty of catchy guitar riffs and melodys. A lot of these songs are memorable after just a couple of listens unlike a lot of bands out there nowadays where it takes 100 listens to tell one song from the next. A lot of different vocal styles are found here. Some heavy deep vocals, some Cradle Of Filth-style high pitch screams, and clean melodic vocals are all found here. I don't know if it's all one singer or if they have more than one singer, but it sure sounds killer! Tired of buying metal cds nowadays because most bands sound the same? Well give this one a try! If you're a metal head who also loves Pink Floyd, you'll love this band. DON'T think that just because I compare this to Pink Floyd means Alchemist sounds like The Gathering. It's nothing like that. Yes, The Gathering rules, too, but Alchemist is totally different. You will not be disappointed with Alchemist! They're hard to find in stores, so you might as well order it online right now since you're here reading this review.
