5.0 out of 5 stars With long hair or short...FELICITY always ruled!!!, Oct 23 2003
This review is from: Felicity Box Set (DVD)
I loved this show so much! Every season got better and better. So I'm really looking forward to each subsequent season on DVD. I just really wished we all could have watched Felicity go into the real world, after watching her change so much in college. It's a shame the ratings tanked after Keri cut her hair (hello! it does grow back folks) and the "Winter Breaks" to TRY to give Jack&Jill a chance...but while it was on, I relished every hour. As well as the talents of the entire cast; both Scotts were just great...so great in fact that I'd be happy with whoever she ended up with. Anyway, it's about time a truly great show get a rebirth. So everyone that stopped watching after "the cut" can take advantage of Felicity on DVD (by the way once out of the awkward stage of growing, in my opinion her hair looked way better...b4 it looked like it could attack and kill bystanders).
Fans & the WB lost a lot when Felicity graduated.

I'm so glad to find out this gem of a show is out on DVD (and season 2 is coming soon). When this show premiered, I was only 13, but loved it...I really loved the way a woman was portrayed as not just a damsel in distress. The 90s brought about great female characters like Dana Scully, Buffy, Xena, and Sam Waters...which were great role models for me as a pre teen. Before shows like theirs, men ruled everything, and women were relegated to partners being raped or shot or mamed (like on Hunter), but these women started a new trend, that shows like Alias and Dark Angel took a page from. Kudos for recognizing true genius in ground breaking shows like Profiler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievabe...a true genius!, Oct 13 2003

This is the greatest CD I have EVER heard. Being 19, I had no idea who Joni Mitchell was. Then I happened to catch a PBS special on her. I remember thinking she was a unique singer & that I recognized a song from "Practical Magic" and one from a TV commercial, and they'd stood out in my mind as really great. So I got the CD just to try it out. Then I took it home and was instantly mesmerized and shocked that someone could sing like that. "River", "Blue", and "Case of You" in particular stand out and literally make me cry (the other songs are just as powerful). And her lyrics are always just so raw. She actually got told not to be so personal in her songs by close friends who knew her. But that's what makes this record so special...you can hear the pain and the sadness in not only the lyrics, but Joni's voice...and it makes you feel so much more when you listen to them, than just the typical reaction to most songs today. You're more able to relate and get into the song when you can actually FEEL the emotion behind it. I just can't believe there are so many people my age missing out on one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever to live. I'd rate this CD better even than Carly or Paul Simon's greatest work.

I guess I'll be the first to compare this show to Friends, Sex and the City, and (the master) Seinfeld. Just kidding. They all have similar characters, like Ross, Rachelle, Joey, Miranda, Samantha, and Kramer...but the comparisons end there. The situations are just as hilarious, yet unique to this wonderful find. I'm not the hugest UK show fan, but I love Ab Fab, The Office, The Darling Buds of May and this. I actually bought it in the store on a whim, but instantly loved it. It's just a shame there are only 6 eps. And I don't have BBCAmerica. However today is the happiest day of my life...I just discovered that the 2nd season is running over here on my local PBS station. [...] So, I'm loving that, and hoping that season 2 is released soon on DVD. I just checked out the in-production version for the USA at imdb, and the cast choices look really...not wise. I really couldn't see anyone else playing Susan, Jane, Sally, Steve, Jeff, or Patrick; they're all perfect...so I think I'll stick with the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars underrated comedy of the year!, Jan 15 2003
This review is from: NEW Birthday Girl (DVD) (DVD)
The story of 2 girafes falling in love.
This is one of the funniest movies I've seen all year. It's a shame no one saw it, and it was marketed & reviewed so horribly. The trailers really were selling it as some sort of sexy, edgy, thriller. When it's really a different kind of comedy. More Romancing the Stone than Fatal Attraction. Nicole Kidman does a great Russian accent and speaks it too, and Ben Chaplin is the greatest sap next to John Cusack or Hugh Grant. The movie's hilarious. He digs at her: "don't give me that 'it's so hard in Russia in winter, that we have to eat each other...it's so cold that we have to go to England & shag people to keep warm". She digs at him: "what did you way, 'when I grow up what I want is to still be in this town, in this job that I hate, in a house with ants & a big bag of pornography, and then I'm going to send off to Russia for a wife and she will fall in love with me".
I started laughing and didn't stop. Yes, there are dramatic moments, and there's some suspense...but that just heightens the humor. It's not like an in-your-face screwball comedy, it's just that the situations that the characters manage to get into are simply HILARIUOS! 2002 was a bang up year for Nicole Kidman with Moulin Rouge, The Others, and this underrated gem...it just prooves what a diverse actress she really is. So everyone go out and see this movie.
The DVD is pretty great too. There's a making of featurette, and a really cool video (Somethin Stupid) with Nicole and Robbie Williams that was #1 in the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars someone give John Cusack an Oscar already!, Dec 30 2002
This review is from: High Fidelity (DVD)
I'm so sick of really good, really smart, funny John Cusack movies. Every year, there seems to be one more dead-on drama or romance or comedy, or some hybrid of all 3 from JC. It's starting to get old now, great performace after great performance.
But while I'm here, I might as well talk about my favorite JC role yet (yup, I like this even more than Say Anything...barely).

You really should hate Rob Gordon. He's a snob, he's whinny, and a bit of a jerk. But John Cusack (as usual) brings real sympathy to the character and you actually feel for him. I loved the movie, John Cusack in the movie, and all of the other memorable characters too. Jack Black was hilarious, and Todd Louiso was so adorable. Celeb cameos from Tim Robins, the Boss, Lili Taylor, Catherine Zeta-Jones (my fav scenes were hers...she always seems to add sparks to any movie) were dead on and allowed for most of the humor. Like with many John Cusack movies, Joan Cusack also made an appeanace. I always love that, she and him work so well together, there should have been more scenes with "Liz". He also seems to have great chemistry with Lili and Catherine who he's worked with in the past, and that always helps a movie. I loved how Rob talked to the cameras constantly. I actually do that in real life...only there are no cameras, so when I do it I seem insane. But I digress...the greatest parts of the movie came with the interactions between oddly charming John and equally charming newcomer Iben Hjejle. Like everyone has stated, the sdtk rocks, and so do the DVD extras. I loved all of the deleted scenes, and wished they were in the movie. I can't wait for the inevitable Special Edition, or Collector's Edition, or Superbit Deluxe Edition, or 2-disc Special Edition...some new edition that always comes out after everyone has already bought the original. But I'd gladly shell out the ...[undisclosed dollar amount] for more extras.

5.0 out of 5 stars rarely is there a truly magnificent soundtrack!, Dec 25 2002
This review is from: Cruel Intentions (Audio CD)
And this is definately one of the few. I didn't care too much for the movie, but the entire soundtrack drew me in. So I just HAD to buy it. I'd go through a run-down of all of my fav tracks, but they're all awesome. It's just a matter of to what degree I like the songs. My absolute favs are: Secretly, You Could Make A Killing, This Love and Bittersweet Symphony (mainly because of the catchy instrumental). My close to absolute favs are: Every You Every Me, Coffee&TV, Bedroom Dancing, and Colorblind. The tracks I left out were good, but not as great as the tracks I mentioned.

This was an awesome soundtrack; one of my favorites ever. And rarely is a soundtrack to a movie ever as good as this one, or even half as good...but I think this is one of the best EVER.
And it's so ecclectic, anyone can dig it. There's stuff for rock fans, pop fans, and all the mixes inbetween.

note: Aimee Mann is always a welcome treat to a sdtk, so if you loved her song on this one, check out Magnolia (she's got 8 tracks on that one), she's truly a musical genuis, and is an overlooked talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars NO POP ALLOWED! This CD blends rock and hip-hop perfectly..., Nov 14 2002
This review is from: 02 (Audio CD)
This is making the band group O-Town's second CD, and even though I liked the first one, this is WAY BETTER. The band has clearly grown a lot. The band writes a lot of their material, and has a lot more of a creative influence in their music. Their voices are more mature, developed, and they have a greater vocal range (they can be harsh or soft as necessary). The best thing about this CD is the eclectic nature of the songs though. 02 is more rock and hip-hop than pop. One song states "I love rockin hip hop with rock&roll, mix it with a little rhythm and soul"; that's true to the music on this CD. It's great for a person like me, who loves so many types of music. You can tell that the band themselves are just as eclectic. Ashley loves soulful ballads, Jacob loves rocking out, Erik brings out hip hop with great beats, Trevor's versatile voice does everything from rock to r&b, and Dan has maybe the most powerful and intense voice out of the group. These guys all bring something unique to the table, and it's a perfect mix. After just 1 listen, I was hooked, this CD isn't leaving my CD player for a while. If you like pop, rock, alternative, r&b, or hip-hop, but 02. This sophmore album proves O-Town can survive the end of pop.
THIS GROUP IS DEFINATELY NO BOY BAND.

now here's the dl on the tracks:
1.From the Damage- this song allows you to feel the pain of the guys over a relationship in turmoil
2.These Are The Days- Jacob channels Bon Jovi and it really works
3.I Only Dance With You and 4.Favorite Girl- guys: grab your girl and dance to these great love songs with even greater beats
5.I Showed Her- simply BEAUTIFUL, Dan&Erik could melt stone
6.Been Around The World- reminds me of the great Michael Jackson hits of the 80s
7.Make Her Say and 8.The Joint- things speed up with hip hop and beats you are bound to dance to in clubs
9.Suddenly- another soulful ballad
10.Craving- ladies: you'll have a craving all right
11.Over Easy- Jacob's pain is great on this one
12.Girl Like That- you just gotta dance
13.You Can't Lose Me- a great love song, perfect way to end 02
