Disappointed, Feb 25 2010
I love Laura Kinsale's books but this one was a disappointment. The characters don't ring true, the telling is poor and the plot is nonsensical. It's a poor book. Sorry but this doesn't seem written by Kinsale.

Very enjoyable book, Aug 15 2009
I read this book on vacation and it was a very good choice, It's very enjoyable and the characters are real and lovable with their family issues, their faults and their forces. The friendship ties that are typical in Roberts novels are also present here. At the end we don't want to let them go, they become our friends also and I am thankful that there are more 3 books in this saga. Read this book if you like romance, friendship and familiy ties.

One of her best, April 19 2009
Well, I loved this book and the choices the heroine made here seemed stupid to some but if you look at them from the heroine's pov they are totally logic. She is scared because she is insecure due to her childhood. I think the plot is very well written, the characters well turned. The Robards' books I liked the most are`: Ghost Moon, Hunter's Moon, Maggy's child, Nobody's angel, Paradise County, Scandalous, to name only some of them. This can give you an idea if my opinion can help you.

not so good, Feb 20 2009
I have read before "Forever After", "Night Thunder", "Wolf River" which I loved. But this one was weak. The characters are shallow, they don't ring true. The story goes bumping along but for me never took off. It begins a little like Romeo and Juliet in the West, it could be interesting but, I repeat, the characters weren't interesting. Even secondary characters are shallow. I will try other books by her because I think maybe this one was only a bump in the road.

Caution, Nov 8 2008
This is not the Sandra Brown we know. This writer is British and share the same name. I bought this book by mistake thinking it was Ms. Sandra Brown from the U.S. It is not bad but it's not the kind of book I was looking for. So, buy it only if you like true stories.

She's returned, April 6 2008
Finally! I read almost every book by Ms Lindsey and I love many of them but in the last years they weren't the same. But this one made me think about the books she wrote in the 90's, spicy, made me laugh and tender. Thank you

The best, Feb 22 2008
I've read all her books and Lord John's saga never did a lot for me but this one is very, very good. The best one is the third novella "Lord John and the haunted soldier". Lord John becomes alive in this novella and we are beside him during his world weariness and depression after being hurt during a battle. I loved this novella and I think you should read it if you are into characters that are tridimensional and credible. Susana

Beautiful writing, Feb 12 2008
I read all of Mrs Phillips books and this one has become one of my favorites. Characters are alive and real with a lot of humor and living in a fairy tale. The story can't be totally real but we are not reading this genre for the "reality" but for the magic. But even so I don't like characters that are two dimensional and Mrs Phillips knows how to tell a story, make you laugh and enchant you. I think this is a book to read when you are a little down or sad or you need some cheer up. Read it and enjoy it. Susana

The marriage spell... not so spelling, Sep 8 2007
Usually I love Putney's books but this one was not among them. Putney knows how to create and endear characters but in this book Abby and Jack are like puppets moved by the extradiegetic narrator. They have difficulty advancing in the story and it didn't come naturally. I loved "Silk and shadows! , "silk and secrets", "the bartered bride", only to name some of her lovely books. Please, Mary Jo, I consider this one only a misstep, it happens, but return to your beautiful style and skill.
