5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing cd. Practically Perfect., Jun 22 2004
This review is from: No Wings To Speak Of (Audio CD)
This cd is almost too good for words. I would'nt ever want to compare it to The Satellite Years though, because they're both too good.

1.) Open Hands to the Wind - (10/10) A great, blasting way to start of a great cd. Good chord progression later in the song. Has a quiet interlude about halfway through, and then ends in a Hopesfall-esque emotionally-driving way that Hopesfall got their signature sound from. (Did that make sense?)

2.) April Left With Silence - (10/10) Wow, this track is amazing. I love all the guitar parts throughout the whole song. This song, if you ask me, is more of an experience than anything else. I don't have enough words for this song so I'll end it here.

3.) The End of an Era - (10/10) This is the long, almost epic song. I love this song to death, but it's probably my least favorite or second least favorite on this cd. It's just a bit long for my tastes. Keep it short and sweet. Great guitars, however.

4.) The Far Pavilions - (10/10) What an amazing song. This and April left with silence alone make this EP worth every penny of the purchase. It just has so much emotion jam-packed within a 5 minute song. The chords are amazing in the middle of the song, and the song smoothly leaves the listener with a calm, atmospheric guitar part. I love it when the drums pound lightly near the end. Bravo.

All in all...this EP is one of the most amazing EP's you'll ever find or discover. Buy this immediately.

(40/40) A+

4.0 out of 5 stars A tad...disappointing., April 6 2004
I purchased this cd in very, very high hopes after hearing a song from the cd (whatever #2 is called.) It packed fast, driving emotion, and it was good. I bought this cd, gave it a listen, and wasn't very happy. The emotion just let up. There's some very poppy choruses that could have been replaced with some nice, whole-hearted screams. I'm not in the band, and I know they're not looking forward to screaming, but it in my opinion could really help them. However, the acoustic song on this cd is very well done, and I'm impressed. Drive-Thru seems to have a hard-on for acoustic songs. Buy this cd if you like Finch, The Early November, Story of the Year and stuff like that. Otherwise, be careful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great blends., April 6 2004

This cd is dynamic. It blends gut-wrenching howls to beautiful, melodic singing...the same is to be compared with the music. All the tracks on here are amazing, and is hard to pick one that doesn't shine as well as the others. Listening to this cd, I heard a portion of Poison the Well, I swear it. The lead singer has an incredible scream that will love, (if you like screaming.) However, if you're more into singing, I heavily suggest previewing this cd before buying, because there's enough lack of singing that you may not appreciate it. For everyone else, it's a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice, mellow smooth break., April 5 2004

I had bough Transatlanticism before buying this cd. I loved Transatlanticism a lot, and was ready for Death Cab's earlier tries. I bought this cd, and was a bit shocked. It just didn't sound quite the same for some reason, and I was kind of bugged by that. However, I listened to it more, and it got better and better. I still think Transatlanticism is better, but this cd is amazing in its own right. It's so mellow, so smooth, and relaxing; I don't think anyone could do it better than Death Cab. Even my dad, who's a Bread, Creme, Allman Bros Band, Alice Cooper, Led Zepplin etc. fan likes these guys quite a bit. I think basically anyone can listen to this band easily, because it's some of the most user-friendly music I've ever heard.

Just letting you know, I messed up, this review is supposed to be for 2112. Sorry.

I'm not too big of a classic-rocker, but you just cannot disregard Rush as one of the best, EVER. I've always kind of known about them and aknowledged their existence, but never really cared about them until someone said I might like Rush if I was a Coheed and Cambria fan. So I decided to check them out, and the inspiration is definitely there, and it's very obvious. Though Claudio Sanchez claims they'd never listened to Rush before, it's very curious as to how similar they are. Anyway, back to Rush. The epic song "2112" is one of the greatest to ever be recorded to a compact disc, or anything else. Wait, the whole cd is just amazing. Buy no matter what your interests are, you should be able to respect these guys immensely.

This cd is awesome with blinding rage breakdowns, to sensitive-esque vocals at times. This whole thing eccentuates all of the dark feelings you feel. However, my only real complaint is some of the suggestive lyrics within "At least I know I'm a sinner." Oh well, it's his lyrics not mine, so it doesn't bug me too much. Anyone can look past the lyrics, which are sometimes a bit cheesy, and see the incredible musicianship embedded within. Intricate guitar lines, furious drums, and speed bass combine to create one hell of a metal/hardcore/screamo experience like no other. High recommended. Also recommended: From Autumn to Ashes, Norma Jean, A Static Lullaby.

This cd is amazing, just like all of Bright Eyes' previous efforts. However, there is something that bugs me just a little bit in this cd. He seems to be having a real struggle finding God in his life. I just don't see the reason why he had to write about it, although Conor Oberst is already a very emotionally stripped person. This is great modern folk, and should not be passed up by anyone. However, if you taken offense to some individualistic thoughts on Religion, I suggest you read lyrics before you ultimately decide to buy this, because this could be offensive to some. Also, the songs just aren't as good, and they repeat themselves often. The songs last waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long. Like the Energeizer Bunny, they just keep going and going and going and going and going and going.

I actually did not buy this cd, it was burned by a friend for me. However, I plan on going out to buy this cd very soon. This cd is well worth my money. It's agressive enough to keep you coming back for more, but enough sincerity to not completely go overdrive. Some of the bridges on this cd are fantastic, and are amongst some of my favorite segments of songs ever. (Not quite sure if that just made sense.) Anyhoo, if you're a fan of From Autumn to Ashes, Senses Fail, the Beautiful Mistake, Silverstein or anyone like that, you should enjoy this cd quite immensely. Buy!

Wow this cd is awesome. It's fine classical guitar segments are nice and humble. Then it explodes into its full rock session. These guys are truely incredible musicians. They play ferociously and press onforth. The moor is one of the single-handedly most awesome tracks I have ever heard. The rest of the cd is great, but you should buy this cd alone just for the first track. Number three is also a standout, just in its differences between the rest of the cd. Beautiful song. Get this cd.
