4.0 out of 5 stars Christopher, Klaus, Cushing and Kojack! Great Three for ONE!, May 30 2004
This review is from: Horror Classics [Import] (DVD)
Vintage Entertainments three for one installments of the greats - Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Klaus Kinski and Kojack (Telly Savalas) in REMASTERED EDITIONS OF "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula", "Horror Express" and "Jack The Ripper"!
All of these films are excellent in their own right. "Jack The Ripper" is a great view with Jack killing women in lieu of payback to his prostitute mother who abused him.
Satanic cults and vampirism abound in Christopher Lee's "The Satanic Rites Of Dracula".
All aboard the trans-Siberian "Horror Express". Complete with a frozen in time MONSTER that just MIGHT be the Missing Link!
Great movies at a great price!
Happy Watching!

5.0 out of 5 stars What A BARGAIN! 50 Classics & Schlock For A Pittance!!!, May 30 2004
I purchased this 50 DVD box set this past autumn (for Halloween) and have viewed all of the films. There are some GREAT CLASSICS mixed with fabulous SCHLOCK for a price that can't be beat!
Different horror genres including:
Crusty, Creepy Creatures
Descend to the depths of the deep, dark ocean and encounter the "Phantom From 10,000 Leagues" and "Creature From The Haunted Sea". Check out the cheesy and quite primitive special effects in "The Giant Gila Monster". Rediscover terror of dogs dressed up in fur playing "The Killer Shrews". Hold your breath to see which hick from the backwoods will actually survive "The Attack of the Giant Leeches"! Also the great "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" with the fabulous Lon Chaney, Jr., "The Gorilla", "Swamp Women", "Atom Age Vampire", "Beast Of yucca Flats", "Black Dragons", "Invisible Ghost", "The Vampire Bat" with Fay Wray, "White Zombie" with Bela Lugosi and "The Bat" With Vincent Price!
Majorly Maddening Madmen
Descend into insanity and weird funereal rites in Francis Ford Coppola's first full-length feature "Dementia 13". Be astounded at the scientific perversity of Jason Evers as he keeps the severed head of his fiancée alive in "The Brain that Wouldn't Die". Also includes, "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde", "The Monster Maker", "Maniac", "The Amazing Mr. X", "The Tormented", and "Bluebeard".
Cult Classics
Watch when Audrey II cries "feeeed me" in "Little Shop of Horrors". Fear for the fate of humanity as flesh-eating zombies roam the earth in Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". Find out what it's like to be "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price and "The Last Woman On Earth" with Robert Towne. Go to the "Carnival Of Souls" with Candace Hilligoss, even!

Silent Horror Classics
Watch the amazing Lon Chaney in "Phantom of the Opera", slinking through the cellars of the Paris Opera House. Marvel at the chilling Max Schreck in "Nosferatu", giving a truly mesmerizing performance and the classic and futuristic, "Metropolis".
AND MUCH, MUCH MORE! I highly recommend this very cool and inexpensive box set for anyone who likes classic horror, cheesy schlock, Bela Lugosi or stylings of the great Ed Wood!
Happy Watching!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Late, Great 1970's - 20 Top 10 Hits - Singer/Songwriters, May 26 2004
If you grew up in the 1970's with your parent's music - on 8 track, no less, this kickin' CD compilation will transport you back in time. Back in time to the days of cut off jean short-shorts, tube socks, & Trax tennis shoes. Smoking candy cigarettes, eating Lik M' Aid, Boo Berry cereal, cold bologna out of the package, and drinking Coke from a glass bottle.
Singer/Songwriters have a sound all of their own. It's THEIR OWN words that they are singing, so naturally, they have more feeling behind their performances.
1. It's Too Late - Carole King belts out her own tune whilst playing her piano...
2. Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers and his smooth R&B hit single
3. Chuck E.'s in Love - Rickie "The Marble Mouth" Lee Jones rambles on about Chuck E.
4. Lowdown - Boz Scaggs with his hit
5. Your Song - Elton John's ballad that was a huge hit
6. Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens' and his religious crossover success
7. At Seventeen - Janis Ian and her teenaged ridden angst. Her one hit wonder.
8. Lay Down Sally - Eric Clapton's great country meets rock single
9. American Pie - Don McLean's tribute to "The Day The Music Died"
10. Please Come to Boston - Dave Loggins' sad Hit song
11. Summer Breeze - Seals & Crofts' fun, lazy Summertime song
12. Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum and his funky 60's throwback
13. Poetry Man - Phoebe Snow and her wonderful hit with a song and lyrics that are one of a kind
14. I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song - Jim Croce's follow up hit to "Operator"
15. Hello It's Me - Todd Rundgren is another one hit wonder, but what a great tune
16. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot's wonderful love song. True GORD'S GOLD
17. Sunshine (Go Away Today) - Jonathan Edwards' one hit Folk song wonder
18. That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be - Carly Simon's hit after Anticipation
19. I'd Love You to Want Me - Lobo's hit after "Me and You and A Dog Named Boo"
20. Year of the Cat - Al Stewart's year was a good one when this tune hit the charts.
This CD is great! I wish that they would release more singer/songwriter CD's for the different decades! I would buy 'em all!
Happy Listening!

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch Out In Your Neighborhood For The Reclusive Families!, May 26 2004
As Art Weingartner says "I'm telling you these people are Satanists. As I sit here, they are Satanists. Look... look, the world is full of these kind of things; black masses, mutilations. Mutilations! The incubus, the succubus - I'm tellin' you, Walter was a human sacrifice."
Such is the hysterical dialog between Art (Rick Ducommun) and Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks) when they discover, along with some other people in their suburban subdivision, their elderly neighbor, Walter Seznick (Gale Gordon) is missing in action.
Other neighbor buddy, Vietnam Vet, Mark Rumsfeld (Bruce Dern) decides to help Ray and Art to find out what happened to Walter. They all three are SURE that the weirdo reclusive new neighbors, The Klopek family, comprised of Dr. Werner Klopek (Henry Gibson), Uncle Reuben Klopek (Brother Theodore) and shy Hans Klopek (Courtney Gains)have something to do with the old man's disappearance.
So...complete with night vision goggles, credit cards to slide in the Klopek's doorlocks to break in and various other spy equipment furnished by Mr. Rumsfeld, they start their little spying games.
Men and their wives even plan a little friendly "welcome wagon" visit to the Klopeks (one of the funniest scenes in the movie!)
Corey Feldman as young neighbor teen Ricky Butler, Carrie Fisher as Carol Peterson, & Wendy Schaal as Bonnie Rumsfeld ALL turn in great performances.
Even Nicky Katt from Boston Public plays Ricky's young friend Steve Kuntz!
What happened to Walter? Did the Klopek's have anything to do with the disappearance? WATCH THIS VERY ENTERTAINING MOVIE and find out for yourself!
Happy Watching!

5.0 out of 5 stars BADA BING! The Soprano's Meet 1930's Golden Age-Pre RICO!, May 26 2004
This review is from: Mafia (Video Game)
MADONN'! Mafia is a 3rd person, 3-D action game that takes place in a fictional city named Lost Heaven-a Chicagolike city complete with the "L" train, airport, banks, galleries, restaurants to get "gabagool", a harbor and lots of storefronts for money laundering, bootlegging & buttlegging (bootlegging cigs)!
You play Tommy Angelo, a mobbed up cab driver-cum-cugine. The game is about the daily life of a foot soldier from the depression era 1930's working the streets for your boss, "Don" Salieri.
The many missions you complete are tough enough to give any new associate the "agita" and make you "oobatz".
More than 60 vehicles are available to drive through the 12 square miles of the city. A Model T, a Roadster, delivery trucks and the like are all at your disposal. Stop your car and get out whenever and wherever you want. Don't be a jamook! Watch the cops or they will pinch you for stealing cars, running stop signs, and speeding, so be careful, INCONSPICUOUS and and most of all, keep the Omerta (vow of silence)!
Use weapons to shakedown, clip, whack, pop, or burn anyone your boss, underboss and capo have put out a contract out on. Hold up a bank, dump bodies and lots of other great mafia stuff! You get to use such weapons as a cool Tommy gun, a Smith & Wesson model 27 Magnum, a pump-action shotgun, a baseball bat to beat someone mezza morta (half-dead), and even throw some Molotov cocktails.
You lucky devil! You even have a "goomah". A hot chick named Sarah.
The graphics on this game are just completely amazing! The handling of the various vehicles is quite realistic, great practice sessions to start you out, shooting/re-loading is excellent, and overall storyline is the best!
I highly recommend this game! Especially if you are a fan of 3rd person play, "The Godfather" movies "Goodfellas" or the hit TV show, "The Sopranos".
Be a wiseguy, TODAY!
Happy Playing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cockroaches & Power Tools & Destruction, OH MY!!!, May 26 2004
The seemingly charming, but sadistic, brutal, destructive & oh yeah... homicidal, Carter Hayes (Michael Keaton) puts
yuppies-cum-landlords, Patty Palmer and Drake Goodman (Melanie Griffith & Matthew Modine) through their paces as they experience the WORST tenant in the history of landlord lore!
Carter Hayes, armed with power tools, garbage, his little cockroach friends, and the law on his side, are GUARANTEED to drive Patty and Drake out of their beautiful victorian fixer-upper that they have just purchased. It seems like Carter would like to pick up the house for himself and thus, tries his darndest to make Patty and Drake default on their huge mortgage.
Tippi Hedren, Laurie Metcalf and Dan Hedaya also star.
This is a great suspense filled movie with a "killer" ending. Michael Keaton is perfect in the role as Carter Hayes. He is one of the most flexible and versatile actors, playing good guys (Mr. Mom & The Dream Team), bad guys (Pacific Heights & Desparate Measures), cartoon characters (Batman & Beatlejuice), & a dying man (My Life).
This is a most excellent suspense film and highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Well Known Correlation Between MEATLOAF & Word Of Faith!, May 26 2004
This review is from: Leap of Faith (Bilingual) (DVD)
Steve Martin is born to play the starring role of Jonas Nightingale, a travelling huckster, fraud of a faith healer, demon "caster outer", "slay in the spiriter" & more importantly, a money grubbing false prophet. Along with his no-nonsense sidekick manager, Jane, played aptly by Debra Winger, they bilk poor souls from a small town out of their hard earned cash with the oldest profession in the world. No, not prostitution. The selling of the Gospel Of Jesus Christ!
This film exhibits many word-faith doctrines such as "positive confession", "gospel of health", "gospel of wealth" and the whole "name it and claim it" belief. More imporantly, what it also has is some great smaller role performances given by Lolita Davidovich as waitress Marva, Lukas Haas as Boyd, Liam Neeson as Will, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Matt, and MEATLOAF as Hoover!
This movie also has a great soundtrack with samplings from Don Henley, Patti LaBelle, Wynonna Judd and of course, the great Meatloaf with "Paradise By The Dashboard Lights"!
Seriously though... This film has a great ending and shows what REAL MIRACLES are made of and EXACTLY where they are made...
A fun & entertaining family film!
Happy Watching!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Movie With Intense Character Studies Throughout..., May 24 2004
"The Accidental Tourist" Hmmm... even the title of the film has many meanings. Unhappily married couple, Macon Leary,(William Hurt)a travel guide author and Sarah Leary (Kathleen Turner) have just lost their young son Ethan to an accident. Each of them goes through the grief process alone and thus, the marriage is quite dead. They separate, with Sarah leaving Macon in the big, old empty Victorian house alone, save for Ethan's badly behaved dog, a Welsh corgie named Edward. When Edward misbehaves, Macon just can't get rid of the dog because it reminds him of the good times that Ethan had with Edward. So, Macon takes the dog to obedience school and meets a very ecentric young woman named Muriel Pritchett. Muriel is a young divorcee with a very sickly little boy, named Alexander (Robert Hy Gorman in a very nice portrayal for a little guy). Muriel pursues Macon, a sexual relationship ensues and Macon opens up for the first time about his sorrow for Ethan. There comes a time when macon has to decide what he wants as Sarah returns to the homeplace and wants to try again.
Amy Wright, David Ogden Stiers, and Ed Begley Jr. all turn in WONDERFUL performances as Macon's odd siblings who live together in the family home that they grew up in. Bill Pullman also turns in a great performance as Julian, Macon's publisher.
This is a wonderful character study of families, their hurt, disappointment and finally, reconciliation. The film is strongly written and well acted. If you are looking for a funny romance like, "When Harry Met Sally", a spooky romance like "Ghost" or a treacly, sappy sweet romance like "Sabrina", then you are looking in the wrong place. If you like to see characters that pluck at your heart strings and seem "oh so real" then this is a movie for YOU! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Marengo Killer B Kombo Meal-Carnival Of Souls & Dementia 13!, May 24 2004
Marengo Studios had good sense to put these two black and white films together. The transfer is excellent as they both are digitally remastered.
Carnival Of Souls with Candace Hilligoss as church organist, Mary Henry, is a cult classic that was produced on a shoestring budget of $17,000.00 and was filmed in less than three weeks. Very creepy and nightmarish visuals with tons of suspension of disbelief scenes.
Dementia 13 is Francis Ford Coppolla's directorial debut. A great suspense filled horror film with creepy scenes that will delight.
Both of these films are highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 FREAKY FEATURES Something Weird Box Set - Box Of BLOOD!, May 24 2004
This review is from: Box of Blood (DVD)
A collection of 3 Something Weird DVD's with 5 freaky features!
Bloody Pit Of Horror-Mickey Hargitay stars as an owner of a freaky castle that some lovely, young models visit to accomplish a sleazy photo shoot. Oh, did I mention that Mickey's character, Travis Anderson, is also a pyscho/sado-masochist who believes he is the re-incarnation of a 17th century torturemaster
named "The Crimson Executioner". This film is touted to be based
loosely on the writings of the great Marquis De Sade... There is an iron maiden, dungeons, a human roaster, and lots of other torture devices.
Carnival Of Blood-A Coney Island Carnival has a murderer on the loose who just LOVES to kill hilariously ANNOYING women. Who COULD it BE??? A strange little sicky! One of the best perfomances is given by a very young, Burt Young as a hunchbacked carnie. (You know, Paulie from the Rocky movies!)
Curse Of The Headless Horseman-Mark Callahan inherits is dead uncle's Wild West tourist attraction. Though he and his hippy friends have been warned. They ingore the "curse" only to meet with the sharp end of the famous and ghostly marauder's knife! A cameo appearance by Andy Warhol's 5 seconds of fame persona, Ultra-Violet who carries around Superman lunchbox!!!
Blood Suckers- stars Peter Cushing and a young man named Patrick Mower who has recently been resued from a Satanic and Vampiric cult. But... you know, once you've tasted blood, you never go back!
Blood Thirst - a Filipino movie in regards to murders in Manilla, a monster with elephantitis
All of these movies are total STINKERS and that's what I like about them! There are MANY, MANY extras on these discs- some film shorts, still galleries, trailers, and radio spot ads! The extras are great!
Happy Watching!
