5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best vegan dessert books out there, Jan 28 2011
My Sweet Vegan, anything that Isa Chandra/Terry put out and 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes are the best dessert books I own. My Sweet Vegan is such an attractive, inviting, unique dessert book that I find myself drawn to it all the time...its the only book that I'll make an extra effort to locate ingredients for. The Autumn Harvest Pie was amazing... in fact, the writer's style and photography are so engaging, you could just read the book cover to cover with great enjoyment without even trying the recipes. But I do recommend trying the recipes! - speans everything from cookies, bars, cakes, cupcakes, and really unique desserts (green tea tiramisu anyone?)

For those of us who want to eat healthy but still want to eat tasty...Isa has come to the rescue! This book has so much going for it. 1) A lot of the recipes feasture easy to access ingredients that you can find in a small town 2) the recipes I have tried so far are delicious! The sweet potato drop biscuits alone are worth the price of the book. I made them 3 times in a row as per the request of my omni friends! 3) recipes are HEALTHY and may help you to achieve your weight goals. So this is an entirely win-win decision - buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vegan Cookbook, Jan 28 2011
This is a huge book with TONS of delicious vegan recipes. The book is worth the cost for just a few of the recipes I have tried. The Tofu Ricotta is fantastic. I used it to make an amazing mushroom lasagna recipe, also included in the book. I've also made some of the quick breads from the book (i.e. cranberry pecan quick bread) which turned out great. Look forward to making more from this cookbook in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this book!!, Jan 28 2011
I adore this book!!! The recipes are delicious (you must try the banana cake, talk about best cake ever - vegan or otherwise), and, most importantly for the aspiring vegan baker, the book is so accessible and easy to follow. Recipes presented run the gambit from brownies to two-tier cakes to puff pastry, but the instructions in the book are so clear and welcoming that you don't feel intimidated at all to give these recipes a try. So far, aside from the aforementioned delicious banana cake, I've made the gas station pies (also turned out terrific) and the oatmeal earth bars (a very original dessert made from cooked oatmeal that I became addicted to). I have a LOT of vegan cookbooks, but this book is definitely one that I will be returning to again and again. Can't wait to try the Boston Cream Pie and Black Forest Cake recipes!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Japanese Macro Book, Nov 29 2010
Beautiful recipe layout. Simple ingredients. Simple instructions. Very tasty. This is currently my favourite cookbook by a Japanese author. The udon in miso squash broth is fantastic, as is the azuki bean and squash soup. If you look at the ingredient lists, they are very simple...but the tastes really shine! This is not a book of bland "health food" recipes. The recipes I've tried so far are really tasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best vegan cookbook!, Nov 29 2010
If you are new to veganism and/or are looking for some great recipes (vegan or not), you should buy this book! The recipes are freakin' fantastic, and even if you don't make any of the recipes, the author's writing style is so engaging that you can just read the book from cover to cover like a good novel. Some favourites from the book include: Banana split pudding brownies, Pizza Dough, Cajun Fries and Mocha Chip Muffins.

The great thing about this book is that it doesn't require particularly exotic ingredients and/or equipment. Live in small-town USA? This is the book for you. As well, the recipes are so good that your omni friends won't even know (or care) that the recipes are meat and dairy free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Recipes!, Aug 2 2010
I don't think you necessarily have to be vegan to enjoy the recipes in this book - the two I have tried so far were really good "make-agains". (I usually don't make recipes again unless they're really good, so that's saying a lot!)

The recipes I tried were healthy, simple and didn't use any artificial products (soy meats, etc.). They also tasted fantastic:

Risotto with Zucchini and Sun Dried Tomatoes (pp. 89-90): Absolutely delicious and couldn't have been simpler. I made it in the pressure cooker in 5 minutes...my omni parents loved it.

Green Beans with Wild Mushrooms and Tomato (pg. 104): Really simple recipe with only a few ingredients, but the taste was fantastic. The recipe really showcased the fresh green beans, instead of allowing them to be masked by heavy sauces/cheeses (as is often the case with many recipes). I served these over noodles to make a very delicious lunch

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love brunch, buy this book!, July 16 2010
This book is a fantastic guide to making all of your brunch favourites. As someone who makes hot brunch items every weekend, this book is a treasure. It includes recipes for tofu scrambles, quiches, omlettes, frittatas, pierogi, waffles, crepes, pancakes, french toast, muffins, potatoes, home fries, sausages, scones...most likely if you've ever craved something for breakfast, its in the book.
I've been using this book every week since I got it. So far I've tried:

banana flapjacks (pg. 80)- my omni parents are crazy about this recipe and request it like mad every week. (My Mom is not even a pancake person) They like this better than any egg or milk containing pancake recipe

peanut butter waffles (pg. 90) - my kid loved these. Isa's waffles are again, better than omni waffles that I have had and much healthier. I made these with whole spelt flour, and they were gobbled up

italian feast sausage (g. 140) - my omni parents were fighting over these...they were that good

zucchini spelt muffins (pg. 170) - they came out great even though I added double the amount of zucchini required. They are so good...best zucchini muffins I have ever had, and healthier for you too! Guess what I'm making this weekend...

If you haven't bought the book already, you should really consider buying. These are easy recipes with not too hard to find ingredients that you (and your omni friends/family) will want to keep eating every week - trust me!
