The Art of War (Pocket Edition)
The Art of War (Pocket Edition)

5.0 out of 5 stars The classic discourse on power, July 4 2004
I'd recommend this book to anyone who seeks a greater understanding of how individuals and organizations function. The Art of War is ideal for those who seek self mastery while developing the ability to overcome one's opponents.

Whether in a military, business or personal context, this work transcends all others in its modern day applications. Various chapters discuss the cultivation of alliances, sensing vulnerabilities within your enemies and knowing when to attack.

The most helpful chapters deal with assessing one's own ability under varying conditions. I found the Thomas Cleary addition to be the most concise translation. This book will help one to become more sensitive and aware of their surroundings and more adaptive to change.

Man's Search for Meaning an introduction to Logotherapy
Man's Search for Meaning an introduction to Logotherapy
by Viktor E. Frankl
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
45 used & new from CDN$ 0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars A monumental work of human courage, July 4 2004
This book would be instrumental to those who wish to understand the greater purpose behind their suffering. The author describes his enduring many horrific experiences of the Holocaust while discovering a greater meaning in these experiences.

Viktor Frankl believes there is a deeper meaning behind the suffering many continue to experience. He also feels that it's one's personal challenge to discover the purpose behind the pain they feel. While being non-judgmental about human suffering, the author sees our pain as a source of strength rather than as a sign of weakness.

This book is ideal for those who are seeking the greater meaning in their suffering. While much of his story takes place during the Holocaust, the lessons are universal to anyone who has ever experienced great difficulty.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to Carl Jung, July 3 2004
I'd suggest this book for anyone who wishes to obtain a general understanding of Carl Jung's theories.

Man and his symbols gives a general outline of predominant themes that exist in various cultures. Almost every culture shares certain common archtypes. We can trace commonalities in various fertility gods, the belief in angels, demons, etc...

His theories allude to a common origin in these beliefs as well as certain experiences that seem to be universal to the human condition. This book was helpful but I'd recommend his later work; Archtypes and The Collective Unconsious for a greater understanding...

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource, July 3 2004
This review is from: Holographic Universe (Paperback)
The Holographic Universe is by far one of the best books quantum physics I've read. This book clearly presents a unified view of both science and spirituality.

Their are many mystical concepts that the author touches upon. The idea of a Collective Unconcious; that we all share a deeper racial memory is reminiscent of the later works of Carl Jung.

In addition, there is a small but helpful chapter devoted to Multiplicity or multiple personalities. The author articulates a theory that multiples exist as a collection of individual souls that exist in parallel dimensions as well as our own.

Physical differences are scientifically observed in different members of a multiple's system. A brain tumor is seen in the x-rays of a multiple patient. When the patient changes personalities, the brain tumor is no longer present.

I found his theories to be helpful and well thought out. For any student of psychology or self discovery, these ideas are are insightful and creative. There is a great deal we don't know and may never know. This book allows the reader the opportunity to go beyond their limited understanding of how their universe may exist.

Satan's Children: Shocking True Accounts of Satanism, Abuse, and Multiple Personality
Satan's Children: Shocking True Accounts of Satanism, Abuse, and Multiple Personality
by Robert S. Mayer
Edition: Paperback
12 used & new from CDN$ 1.00

4.0 out of 5 stars A helpful resource, July 1 2004
The author's intelligence and skepticism helps to present a clearer picture of ritual abuse. For those unfamiliar with RA, this would be a good place to start. Great detail is given many of the horrific experiences his patient has endured. However, his skepticism about the reality of these experiences may impede the healing process.

For survivors or for those already familiar with RA, Dr. Mayer's uncertainty may leave them feeling invalidated. It would be difficult for a survivor to process their experiences in they are contiunally called into question by their therapist.

Morning Come Quickly
Morning Come Quickly
by Wanda Karriker

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly recommended resource, July 1 2004
This review is from: Morning Come Quickly (Hardcover)
I would suggest this book for anyone who wishes to become more familiar with ritual abuse. One thing that strikes me as certain is that survivors of SRA have almost no political power to deal with this type of abuse. This book clearly expresses the dilemma that many survivors and their therapists experience.

There are tens of thousands of survivors of SRA/RA that are attempting to heal and overcome this type of severe trauma. Many are highly intelligent and lead successful lives. Perhaps they should organize themselves on a political level in order to strengthen their position. While it may be difficult to pursue criminal charges against these abusers, civil charges may be an option. At a minimum, it may help to raise awareness and may possibly interfere with ongoing/future abuse.

Individuals should attempt to pursue justice whenever possible. If survivors were to organize themselves, they would be far more effective. In addition to possibly bringing about a greater sense of justice, organized groups of survivors would be able to aid one another in their healing. If survivors and their allies could work as a unified group (like the abusers do) they would be far more effective...

Regarding the book itself, it's very helpful and informative. I hesitate to call it 'enjoyable' -as the subject matter is so severe, however the book is very 'engaging' and well written. The story is clearly told in a descriptive and creative manner. I would recommend this book highly to anyone interested in learning more about SRA/RA. I plan to donate this book to my local library once I've finished. I would also suggest it to my survivor friends.

Drawn Swords: My Victory over Childhood Ritual Abuse
Drawn Swords: My Victory over Childhood Ritual Abuse
by Jeanne Adams
Edition: Paperback
6 used & new from CDN$ 36.83

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional work of courage and inspiration!, July 1 2004
Drawn Swords is by far the most helpful resource on ritual abuse I've located. Jeanne's book is simply one also of the most inspirational stories I've experienced. It's one of the few books on RA that has a happy ending.

We know that Jeanne's already overcome great personal difficulties associated with ritual abuse. The strength and clarity of Jeanne's determination is felt in the beginning of the book. Knowing Jeanne survived the unthinkable makes it easier to read about the horrific experiences she successfully endured.

Rather than simply being a story about ritual abuse, it beautifully expresses one woman's courage in the face of unfathomable evil. Jeanne's story should serve as an inspiration.
