First, how amazon let the "tribute cd's suck" "recommendation" go through, only they can answer. Secondly, I own about 60 Hendrix cds, and this one is the best tribute cd, right up there with "Stone Free." A previous reviewer or two said that they thought this release "lacked energy." To each his own. I felt that the performers on this cd had nothing but energy. How one can listen to Robert Randolph do "Purple Haze" and lament the lack of energy is incomprehensible to me. Same goes for Chaka Khan's stunning version of "Little Wing." These performers sounded like they were having fun to me, not just giving you an exact copy of a Hendrix song, but putting their stamp on it while truly celebrating Hendrix. What more can you ask for in a tribute cd?

You'd think there would be some vocal drop-off after performing for so long, but Annie sounds great on this cd throughout. She's hitting all of the notes, and I don't mean the engineer is helping her hit the notes. This is just as good as any of their GH packages, and you can tell the sisters are having fun the whole time, the oldies are not being sung against their will. I highly recommend this release if you'd like to hear Heart at their best, age has not diminished them in the least.

Verheyen would do well on American Idol, his vocals are passable, nothing to complain about. His songwriting did not connect with me at all. You often here of players who are playing the blues but not sounding as if they feel it, and Verheyen, to me, is a classic example. He does play the guitar very well, don't get me wrong, but nothing spectacular. His vocals are merely along for the ride, and that's where we part ways. Not a bad release, by any means, just nothing to write home about.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Not Blues" Whinefest, Jun 9 2004

That the average rating of this cd on amazon is 3 out of 5 stars is as close a testament to what the trash musical tastes of the average American is as was the total lack of talent on the most recent American Idol. When did Jonny say he was doing nothing but what you consider the blues for the rest of his life, I must have missed that. This is an outstanding cd, his best yet BY FAR. If you want nothing but 15 year old Jonny Lang, then buy his cd's from when he was 15. He isn't 15 anymore--deal with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continues His Hot Streak, May 21 2004

Coming off of his previous release to this "Kingpin," this is another fine recording. You get alittle of everything on here, but it's all blues. Of particular note to me was the instant classic "Feelin' No Pain," over 8 minutes of awesome blues and no-wasted-notes soloing by Ellis. "Stuck In Love" is over 6 minutes of the same, excellent soloing by Ellis. My other favorite was "All I Can Do", which borrows the guitar riff from Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic." This is blues done with style and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have, May 15 2004
This is not a cheap bootleg-type quality release, this is the real deal. Don't be fooled just because it isn't an official release of the Hendrix estate. It is from the estate of Michael Jeffrey, who was there at the beginning with Hendrix. This is as close to being at a live show of Hendrix as we who never saw him will ever get. Complete with intro and stage banter and all his hits. The sound is OUTSTANDING. The bonus disc is of his final live show ever, and the sound on this one is not good, but it is only of historical value, nobody has a good recording of this show. It wasn't as if anybody knew this was going to be his last show. Nice digipak packaging and liner notes. A must for Hendrix completists but also a good place for Hendrix beginners. I can't recommend this highly enough.

This is a fine representation of the Ohip Players circa 1977, when they recorded this live in the studio. They are and always were a jam band. Is this a perfect cd? No. But very few live cds are. With the exception of "Fire" being too long and almost unrecognizable at 11:00, the rest of the cd is fine. No real high points, but a nice even performance and it is the only live cd of their's from that time and not recently recorded. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars EW&F's Best, Mar 12 2004
This review is from: All N All (Audio CD)
This is a greatest hits cd in and of itself. No filler here, this is EW&F at their best. This Japanese reissue faithfully restores the fold-out lp look of the original album release with all the original artwork. Definitely my favorite EW&F album and one of my favorite albums PERIOD of the Seventies or any other decade.
