4.0 out of 5 stars Taylors Oscar winning performance now on Widescreen DVD!, May 1 2003
BUtterfield 8 the phone number that rang Elizabeth Taylor to her first Academy Award!!
Taylor is gorgeous as the woman who lights the evening fires of mens hearts. Her ethics prevented her from taking money for she is looking for true love only to be reminded what kind of woman she truly was. Lawrence Harvey is an unhappily married wealthy man who does fall in love with Taylor. His constant insecurities and jealously drives their romance and lives over the edge. Can Taylor ever achieve a normal life ? Will she escape her past? The ending will surprise you.
This DVD has both Full Screen & Anamorphic (auto adjusts to your tv) WideScreen formats. The picture quality is good, but disappointing considering this is 2003. Extras only include; Trailer and cast & crew listings.
Worth a rental view before buying. Enjoy.

Taylors performance and beauty is worth the viewers time.

5.0 out of 5 stars MCA/Universal presents Bing Crosby & Carole Lombard!!!, March 21 2003
MCA/Unicersal Clacssics have restored and re-released "We're Not Dressing" on home video. This movie falls under the Bing Crosby Collection.
Early Crosby croons several catchy tunes in this semi-musical at sea comedy / love story.
Summary - Crosby a crooner deck hand on a millionairesses (Lombard) yacht. Lombard (beautiful & funny) falls for Crosby but acts as the totally spoiled rich girl. As all 1930's musical comedies we have a great supporting cast to include; comedians - Leon Errol, George Burns & Gracie Allen, a very young singing Ethel Merman. A young Ray Milland trys to swoon Lombard. This funny crew ship wrecks on an island & Crosby becomes the "IN-Charge" go to guy. This is some funny stuff with catchy tunes to beat.
An original trailer is included. Enjoy this 1935 Hollywood Film with Crosby & Lombard.

5.0 out of 5 stars From MCA/Universal's Classics starring Carole Lombard, March 21 2003
This review is from: Hands Across the Table (VHS Tape)
Carole Lombard is fabulous & beautiful in this 1934 Paramount Pictures love story co-starring Fred MacMurray.
This VHS Black / White Standard picture (before WideScreen) is of great quality and clear sound. An original trailer is included.
Summary - a manicurist (Lombard) is seeking to marry a millionaire. Broke Playboy (MacMurray) is also seeking to wed a wealthy spouse. As all depression black comedies they end up following in love no matter how hard they resist. Hollywood, Love & Fate of the 1930's guarrantees the audience to get a great story and a happy ending to boot.
Lombard & MacMurray are fabulous. A fine performance by Ralph Belamy helps support this great story. This Lombard at her best. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars MCA/Universal Classic 1933 - early look at Cary Grant!!, March 21 2003
This review is from: Eagle and the Hawk (VHS Tape)
MCA/Universal is re-releasing the great Stars of early Hollywood Classics. It is truly great to see these stars in their early careers.
"The Eagle and The Hawk" - starring A young Fredric March & Cary Grant. (With a cameo of the fabulous Carole Lombard). This World War I film is a psychological battle of the aerial dog fighting between young men and the lasting effect on these young pilots and observers.
March & Grant are bitter enemies who respect each others professional abilities. Who team up to become the squadrons best aerial team. The stress of the job and the constant exposure to death take their toll on our stars.
Excellent protrayal of young men and their experiences in war.
The acting of March & Grant are tops. A brief visit of Carole Lombard eases the pain & sufferings.
This VHS, Standard version is a good copy with an original trailer included. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3rd time released & Artisan finally gets it right 16:9 DVD, Feb. 28 2003
This review is primarily explaining this Remastered HDTV 16:9 5:1 Dolby digital Ultimate Edition / Directors Cut, 2 DVD Set presentation!!
Artisan is notorious for re-releasing their DVD over & over again each time giving us more fluff in its DVD package (not necessarily the picture or sound quality).
Case in point "STARGATE - Ulitmate Edition Director's Cut. This is their 3rd release of "STARGATE" and they FINALLY got it right! (what takes Artisan so long to release the movie right??? Never the 1st time (SO BUYER BEWARE) NOW on their 3rd try they have provided us with a worthy outstanding presentation!!!!
Note: If you are a Home Theatre Owner with HDTV WideScreen 16:9 you must be cautioned about your DVD purchasing. First WideScreen (Letterbox) DVD's are not going to be true WideScreen on your 16:9 HDTV. Letterbox means just that - horizontal & vertical black bars around a very small centered WideSceen picture. Second true WideScreen as this "STARGATE - Ultimate Edition" is indeed a true HDTV 16:9 (as noted on the DVD Ultimate Features)picture giving the complete expanded presentation. Finally remember the only true HDTV WideScreen DVD will be noted on the Extra Features Section as 16:9 WideScreen Enhanced or Anamorphically Enhanced (DVD will automatically adjust to TV size).
"STARGATE" the movie itself is a scifi classic weaving ancient Eygptian theories with scifi. Brought to us by Erich von Daniken, author of the renowned book "Chariots of the Gods". A very imaginative movie with great screen acting (Kurt Russell & James Spader), outstanding special effects and a very fascinating complex story.
This "Ulitmate Edition" is awesome!! Here is what you get; Newly REmastered 16:9 WideScreen - the picture is absolutely fantastic), A "DIRECTOR'S CUT" - additional extended scene footage allowing us to know more about this fascinating world of "STARGATE", Original Theatrical Cut - so you get two versions to compare!! (Director's Cut wins hand down), Digtially ReMastered Sound - 6.1 DTS & 5.1 Dolby Digital - Awesome, Featurettes: Is this a STARGATE? - a great explanation of aliens visiting earth etc., The Making of STARGATE - includind never before seen behind the scenes video, Audio Commentary - great backgound information about "STARGATE", Production Notes, Cast & Crew Information & Theatrical Trailers. Wow, what a great DVD package. Artisan finally gets it right so now I can pass on my old inferior versions to friends so they can at least get a taste of this great scifi epic.
Now I can say buy "STARGATE" and sit back & ENJOY the ride over & over.

3.0 out of 5 stars 50th Anniversary Special Edition DVD very disappointing!!!, Jan. 26 2003
The picture quality is that of an old copy of a washed out color scratchy 35mm film directly transferred to a DVD. The sound has been improved digitally but the picture is poor in this DVD presentation.
If you want the 1950's Saturday Matinee Movie Theatre Scifi visual experience this will do.
The Standard Format, grainy quality picture and washed out color spoil the effects.
Many Special Features: An U.S. and alternate British Versions of the film. (hardly worth the effort -with & without dream sequence) Supposedly a new digitally transfer. (which means direct film to DVD transfer - NO remastering) Theatrical Trailer. Still Gallery (grainy and very poor quality pictures). Illustrated Collector's Booket (quite informative).
Note: This movie was quite innovative (for 1953)with a great sound track but today looks pretty primitive. Invaders was a follow on movie to the best Scifi movie of the 1950's 'The Day The World Stood Still(1951)'. This is an outstanding movie. Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good News, Bad News DVD Only Review !!!, Jan. 26 2003
This review is from: Pillow Talk (Widescreen) (DVD)
Good News: Doris Day and Rock Hudson are great in this Technicolor Comedy.
Bad News: This is 2003 and Universal Studios still releases DVD's with false DVD descriptions. They annouce this is a WideScreen Movie Presentation. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a LetterBox WideScreen Only. Another words you watch this tiny horizontal & vertical black bar pictire in the center of your television. (NOTE: Only true WideScreen is Anamorphic (adjusts automatically to any size TV) WideScreen or Enhanced for 16:9 WideScreen HDTV's). This is not!!! the picture on a 16:9 tv is small and grainy. Not a very enjoyable Home Theater experience.
Rent this only or watch it on television. Very disappointing & unexceptable DVD. Skip it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate 1959 Chick Flick now on WideScreen DVD!!!, Jan. 25 2003
This review is from: Imitation of Life [Import] (DVD)
Universal Pictures brings us this very controversal 1959 Technicolor picture to Anamorphic WideScreen DVD. The picture I agree is not the best quality but still delivers an acceptable Widescreen presentation for Home Theatre Systems.
"Imitation of Life" is an outstanding motion picture with very strong subject matter especially for 1959. The emotional rollercoaster ride we the audience take with Lana Turner & Juanita Moore two widows with daughters struggle together to find true happiness & over come the worlds racial prejudice.
Homeless Moore is truely outstanding as the Black devoted mother who has an 8 year old very light skinned daughter who is ashamed of being Black & her Black mother. Turner a struggling actress with a 6 year old daughter befriend Moore, take them in and begin a life long friendship. The acting of all the stars supports very stongely the emotional journey these characters had to endure.
I guarantee this will bring a tear to many of eyes so keep a box of tissues handy for this very heart filled story. Enjoy.
