Three Cheers & Five Stars For " The Persians" !, Dec 22 2009
This is an excellent overview of Iranian history for generalist and specialist.
This is +/- my 40th title in Iranian Studies and I can see this book being a regular work horse.
The generalized text is substantiated with very specialized footnotes with
commentary and full citations on social, economic and political matters through
Iran's entire history. After a general overview of a person, events or subject time
period, e.g.:Cyrus, The Mongol invasion,The Babi Movement, 1906,1953,1979
revolutions or Iranian constitutional law etc - the author provides fantastic
citations for further reading and follow up study.
I have ordered 7 more titles from them already. :o)
One of the great joys of Iranian Studies is the general academic excellence of the writers.
Almost all authors provide full and proper academic citations in their footnotes and bibliography. As a lover of Iranian Studies , I would pay this price just for the notes and bib. !
Any quality Iranian Studies book is a door to a thousand other doors all deserving of your prompt attention.
This is such a book - three cheers for " The Persians " !
